RE: Did you dull your shinny covering
As Whit stated if you are using a glow or gas engine you will need to use Lustercote flat clear to dull it down. The Testor Dull Coat will not hold up to the fuels and will wipe right off.

RE: Hangar 9 60cc Corsair
Spence, the gloss sea blue color came to life with the F4U-1D variant which is what this is. From VF-17 aboard the USS Bunker Hill in Feb 1944. Should not be flat. Now with that the gloss blue would deteriorate quickly in the salt air and begin to oxidize out to a white on the top surfaces. Just flattening it out would not be accurate. Get it Spence, you will love it!

RE: Military colors only at warbird meets?
Very interesting Ron. And for that matter, I think your position of flying your Miss America would be fine. If this was a competitive contest you would fly your Miss America P-51 flying P-51 manuevers and would be fully correct in every application. But it is what it is. As stated above, how far do they want to go? If they want to go that it must be in "military color's and a warbird", how do we define it? Is it defined by an aircraft scheme that flew in a position to fight for the country it is marked in? Or is it an aircraft that looks like a warbid and has some resemblence of correct markings? How accurate do they have to be? For example, the Hangar 9 30cc P-47 in it's current trim scheme is a museum bird that it's markings DID NOT EXIST in time of war. The model of the aircraft is incorrect. There never was a Hun Hunter XVI, and Wicked Wabbit was a razorback. Also if you go down the position of the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels, those aircraft are NOT warbirds by any means. They are specially purposed aircraft for Public Relations work and those airframes WILL NEVER see the light of combat at any time. In fact the guns have been removed, and the airframes are not certed in current form for weapons delivery! So they need to stay home by that possible reason. Plus I can assure you the Air Force and Navy would not send them to war in their current colors!!! Really stinks! I guess the Event Director believes there is an overabundance of warbirds in the area. Even at Oshkosh far greater men than the director of your event allows racing trim scheme warbirds to fly because of their heritage. Listened to that announcing many times before. Feel for you man. I am on your side, you would think they would want the most models there that meet the basic criteria (aircraft type and not trim scheme type) to help foster a successfull event. Easy to announce - "Ladies and Gentlemen, approaching on this pass a P-51 Mustang that you will note is in Air Racing colors of the famous Miss America. After World War II a large number of our military warbirds fell into private hands and became air racing warriors showing the performance, speed, and agility they were known for when they defended this great country!" Tell them they can use that line when they let you fly. [;)] Good luck!!

RE: Hangar 9 30cc P-47 Build Thread
As Nick stated the included plywood stiffner is required to keep the main gear doors together. I did not use them on my first set and one ripped off in no time. Since the stiffner has been installed I have not had a problem. As for the retracts, I only use heavy gauge extensions on any model that either has a 12 inch long extension or an engine of more than 20cc's. Never tried the smaller light weight extensions but can imagine just what you have stated. I use (2) 2000 mah Li-Po's for the power safe receiver and power the retracts through the receiver without any issues.

RE: Maine Jet Rally
Sounds like most had a great time. Attendance numbers hit the 17,000+ for the three days. Mother nature didn't help with some of the weather but all went off great. Thank you pilots for letting us try out this new event in your backyard. For me the highlight was the formation flight of Matt Chapman and his full scale Cap 580 and Quique with his 100cc Beast. It had to be seen to be believed.

RE: Indiana Warbird Campaign
The Blue Max is a great movie. Another one that is awesome is The Great Waldo Pepper or The Spirit of St. Louis. There are a bunch of them! This needs to be a regular program at the event! Guys this event was just plain awesome. I have not had this much fun in a long time. Roger, I am sure real DC-3's would spin and do those low flyby's inches off the deck; even inverted. [:D][:D][:D] You know I still have a Bud Nosen Mister Mulligan I could bring next year for the Classic Division. Have to help you guys out. Best run noon time show I have experienced in many, many years!!! Thanks for everything!!!!

All I can say it was my first time attending and it was incredible. Awesome bunch of pilots and a great place to fly. Just doesn't get much better than this! Weather threatened us for a fair amount of the weekend, but the warbirds fought off the clouds and kept them away. Will be back next year with a facelift on teh old DC-3. She will be wearing SE Asia camo in her AC-47 gunship scheme. Looking forward to it already!

RE: A4 Blue Angels info needed
Very interesting on the nose wheel rotating like that during the dirty roll. I am guessing the real one must have had a castering nose gear allowing it to move like that. Ground steering by differential braking then.

RE: A4 Blue Angels info needed
Andy, in checking all of my A-4 books I found that the original spec was gloss red for the interior of the speed brakes when the aircraft was painted in the original gloss grey top/gloss white bottom. When the paint schemes went to the tactical scheme, flat grey all over the inside of the brakes was painted the same color as the outside of the aircraft. I checked my books on the Blues and could not find one picture of the brakes open to verify color. My first guess would be red. Good luck on finishing the Scooter! don't forget to lock the leading edge slats up if you are doing the Blue Angel's variant as they locked the slats up on all aircraft. Looking forward to seeing it when complete!

RE: Byron Corsair Gear doors from Byron
Interesting on the paper work. I wonder if it was something they were trying but it never worked out. Never saw a gear door kit on any factory models at Aviation Expo back in the 1980's or on any trade show models. Either way, I would be very surprised if you found one. Good luck. As for the gear, as yours appear to be new; I am confident you could return to Robart and they would switch them over at no cost. As for the rake of 95 degrees, changing that will take some new side frames to relocate the pivot point. I believe all the rotator's are set at either 95 or 100 degrees from Robart. Would be interesting to hear how the change goes on that. Good luck on the project.

RE: Byron Corsair Gear doors from Byron
I honestly do not remember ever seeing an advertisement for a gear door kit for the Corsair from Byron. Not saying they didn't have one, just after owning two Byron Corsair kits over the years , one back when Byron was in business, I do not remember any door system offering. That aside, I will say you have the wrong retracts if you wish to enclose the wheel in the wings with gear doors. You have the 150 gear which are more accurate for a P-40/Hellcat. The 150B has the correct lower strut for the corsair. It offsets the axle to the outboard side of the strut a few degrees and helps the strut to clear the lower wing skin. Enclosing the units you have will be you if not impossible. I would call Robart and see if they can change out the lower strut to the correct ones.

RE: Dayton D.O.G.S
@t33jetman - I flew the NASA mother ship on a few different missions with Tony Frackowiak. In fact in the configuration it sits in the AMA museum I flew it for all the drop missions with the X-33. I can remember taking off and having to land with the X-33 model still on board, we did not drop. The ground clearance was right around a 1/4" for the X-33 when sitting on the ground. Never really an issue during takeoff, but to land if the landing wasn't perfect we would surely do some damage to the model. Got lucky and taxi'ed back to make the next flight an hour later.felt pretty good that day. @jet76 - want to get one more long weekend with my son just the two of us flying with no responsibility before the season ends. Normally that would be Route 66 jets but I have to fly out to amaine for the Horizon Air Meet and will miss Route 66 with my son. I hope you guys understand.

Man Gary, that stinks. I can understand if it was a small say 40 size ducted fan but at that size give me a break! Yea Bob, you can fly one of mine. Only issue is I won't be there this year. The boy and I are going to Muncie for the Indiana Warbird and Classics show. We are going to do one last event for us this year and check out the museum. The boy is interested in seeing some of the old stuff. He wants to see one of the planes his old man flew a number of years ago for NASA that hang in there.

RE: JR 8911 vs 8711
Dan, no issue as to which one is better. Both utilize the same gear train, just a different motor and amp in the 8911 to handle the hgiher voltage over long time usage. I use the 8911HV for everything now. Regardless of what power source is used they work fine as Tom can attest above.
