RE: Replacing lost Ether in fuel?
Bill, if you are not sure how much ether to add, try mixing up 1 part oil + 3 parts ether, mix , and add this to your old fuel in the following way. For starters, mix up 1 oz to the "part"; you can then add one part "new mix" and two parts old fuel. You will have 3 oz of fresher fuel to evaluate. You will not be diluting the oil content in your original fuel. John

RE: OS .40LA diesel engine conversion
Elweb, nice pictures. Looks like you are having fun. The diesel doesn't need a pressure hook up. A .40 (7cc) diesel on a 10 x6 prop is not doing "its thing", let it lug a little. As you showed the Atom 1.8 cc, it turns a 12x5 at 6500 rpm and it is less than 1/3 the size. Revving the diesel up may require a higher compression and the glow .40 rod may break or wear out a lot sooner. Also remember the carb. If you are using the same carb for both glow and diesel, the diesel does not require the same volume of air, so perhaps do not open the carb as "wide open" as you would use on glow. Lastly, the larger size diesel will not require the same ether content in the fuel as the smaller diesel. Bring your info over to the vintage diesel thread. John

Well I did hear back about my order...no luck. Dear Tower Hobbies Customer, A recent back order of yours has arrived, however we are not able to ship this item to your address as this is restricted to domestic addresses only due to being flammable. Unfortunately, we aren't able to ship fuel to Canada with the shipping options we have available.

RE: Substitute for Ether
Thanks for pulling up this post. lots of great information. As they say, why re-invent the wheel? Andy, have you made any new discoveries on fuel mixes? The above mentions that "max" compression is required for the initial starts. Is this going to damage the engine? Has anyone tried a dual fuel set up using a Y connector and two needle valves. The first needle would be to the fuel with the ether for starting, and the second needle would then be used to introduce the no ether fuel as the diesel warmed up. The ether would be leaned out, and the NO ether richened , so to speak. Of course this procedure, if it works, would have to be repeated each time at start up.

RE: Where can i find a used F2C Diesel ?
Greg, Dave, thanks for the info. There's nothing "dry" in a good explanation....I like it like it is! I had forgotten about perhaps having to increase the compression without the ether. I'm not going to be looking for maximum output, just a steady run, without a cool off and the diesel quitting. Even being able to run with a small portion of ether will help. I expect this will all work better in the larger .40 to .60 size diesels. I'm hoping that I will be able to use the same compression setting with the fuel switch and rely on the mixture setting. John

RE: Where can i find a used F2C Diesel ?
Gentlemen, a nice discussion on what's going on in the engine. Does anyone have suggestions on what might be used to replace the ether in the model diesel fuel mix? I am hoping to try a dual fuel, dual needle valve system with the first bring up regular model diesel fuel with 30%ether, the second fuel then being introduced into the engine once it has warmed up. I am hoping that once hot, the model diesel engine may run with much less ether , or hopefully no ether at all. Last year, Andy posted a video of a .15 Norvel diesel running on bio diesel, no ether. It appeared to be working in his set up. Thanks, John

RE: What engine to buy?
Thee are lots of used and new Cox .049s around. Cox's web site did have an .049 for less than $10. You will loose power with the muffler. A throttle is nice, but again you may be able to do without. Moving up in size to an 0.11 or 1.8 cc the out of production Webra 1.8 Speedy is one of the finest engines I've ever used. It has the power of a .15, excellent throttle, and is relatively easy on fuel (10%). If you want a diesel, look for the Webra .09 R/C. The engine in the middle of the picture has a throttle and muffler, looks nice, but is twice the weight you expect. PAW's are nice little engines and should be around for a long time. The diesel is very quite. If you really are not sure what to get, perhaps try an electric, fly your plane, and if the power is ok, get a glow engine that will match the power. What ever glow engine you get, make sure you can either get the glow heads, or an adapter to use standard short glow plugs.

RE: Has anybody built and flown a Lainer Dominator 200
I'm slowly working away on this kit. For a 1/2A it's probably over built and may come out tail heavy with a Cox .049 . I wouldn't have the eye sight or skill to try flying this with a Webra 1.8 Speedy. You may want to do a trial CG balance before you install the motor. A slightly longer nose section may be better than adding lead to the nose! The picture shows how much room is left over if small servos are used.

RE: Small plans & kits
Thanks. Yes, the listings are shown for what was available, but are there "copies" of the plans [to down load] from the magazines? RCM , 1979, published the RCM Illustrated Plans Guide covering all the plans appearing from vol 1., no 1, Oct., 1963. The plans in this publication are very reduced in size, 1/2 page. They are interesting to look at, make nice reference data. Copying the small plan and using Model Cad makes for a starting point in drawing up your own ideas. John
ORIGINAL: Remby The 1/2a models in magazines forum was started to help in just this way. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2259664/tm.htm If it was offered through plans and magazines, it is, or should be in the posts there. The mags can be looked for in a number of places, and some of the publishers still sell the plans. I like listing the kits to aid the search for them as well. It is not complete yet, but it should help find somthing of interest.
RE: Which 1/2A motor for this?
In reply to: If you want speed, find a Tee Dee .09 N.I.B., if you want a throttle and all around flight performance, get a .10-.15 motor. But a nice speed 400 sized motor will do the same as a .10 engine, I say live a little and find that Tee Dee .09 and ring it out! I fly a Wild Thing (.15 sized, 300 sq in) with a TD .09 [1.5 cc], 7x4 , 16k rpm, 15%, 30 oz and it almost keeps up with a similar plane using either a 1.8 cc [.11]Webra Speedy or a 2 cc [.12]MVVS. The last batch of Cox .09s did have a muffler and throttle and used a regular glow plug. The Cox glow head will add 500 to 1000 rpm. If you can find one, the Webra Speedy 1.8 has the best power and a very effective throttle. It is rear exhaust and will accept a pipe. Presently I am planning on putting a Cox .049 into a foam GWS P51. Expected flying weight about 12 oz.

RE: AP .09
I do not have an AP, but run Cox .09's , APC 7x4; 10% gives 16K rpm using a glow head adapter. Using the Cox plugs will add 500 to 1000 rpm. Running rich with an 8 x4 works well with a glider type model. The Cox .09 is doing well in a small 300 sq in Wild Thing, full size radio gear, 30 oz. In fact, the Cox does as well as an MVVS 2cc (.12) in a similar plane which is much heavier.
