can heat damage carbon fiber pushrods?
Hi all, I'm just finishing my first jet (Savex L39)....I am using 6mm carbon fiber pushrods for the elevator....the rods run down the fuselage along side the tail pipe....just wondering if there is potential for damage to the pushrods...the engine tailcone is 30mm from the opening of the pipe. The pushrods run alongside this opening at a distance of about 1" or so.....am I going to melt my pushrods??? Thanks, John

Can anyone give me the dimensions of the Spring Air Tank...my retracts STILL have not arrived and I want to start putting all the bits where they belong so I need to know how much room the air tank will take up. Thanks, John

Anyone else have problems with ailerons and flaps rubbing together at certain settings...ie, at full flaps (45degrees) ailerons rub against flaps restricting their movement??

Hi Gary, Everything is connected properly...it starts occasionally, but not consistently....I think one of the settings may be off, but I don't know what any of the settings mean [sm=drowning.gif]

Wren44 Gold start problems
Hi All, I have a Wren44 Gold (still on the bench) and I cannot get it to consitently start...I've tried the gas valve in every position from 1/2 turn to 2 turns open...Ocasionally it starts, but mostly I get the following: Gas ignites, Fuel ramp DOES NOT occur, temp reaches approx 170c then start terminates...the ECU displays "Start Bad" Temp is around 25degrees c outside. ECU battery was from between 10.1V and 10.8V Another issue, once I had it running, when I pulled the stick to idle quickly, the engine quit....sure would not be good in flight! Any Ideas?? Thanks in advance, John

Thanks Gary, I noticed your fuel tanks are very far forward...is that normal?....would you advise against using some heat to form them to fit around the starter on the turbine? Thanks, John

Hi everyone, Does anyone have photos of a wooden engine mount setup with a 44Gold? I built an engine mount based on Paul's plans, then realized that I had the engine setup so it would be running inverted...like the photos in David's Jet International article...I'd rather not run it inverted, and I'd rather not build an aluminum mount...any ideas?
this thread IS the manual!
I agree...I am actually working on mine right now (epoxy is drying on the rear pipe mounts) and I am cross referencing all the info on this thread...I would recommend reading the WHOLE thing and make notes as you go so you know where to find answers to the numerous questions you will have as you build.

Thanks for the reply....I guess I will use the 85MGs on flaps and ailerons (I had my doubts as to whether or not I could fit the 5245 in the wing for the flaps) Any other comments on the servo selection? Am I the only one concerned about using Micro servos on a turbine jet??...it kind of worries me...[sm=frown.gif] I'm not familiar with the duralite battery....what is the voltage before using the diodes? Thanks, John

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
I've ordered the following servos....just want to make sure they will be strong enough (and fit in the plane!)....any comments on the following? Elevator (two servo setup....I know most are using the single servo, but I'd prefer to do it this way) - HITEC 5245MG digital with 61oz-in torque Flaps - HITEC 5245MG digital with 61 oz-in torque Ailerons - HITEC 85MG (not digital) with 42 oz-in torque Rudder - HITEC 85MG with 42 oz-in torque Nosewheel steering - HITEC 85MG epoxied to the side of the nosegear case Sound right?? The torque figures are quoted on 4.8V RX pack....6.0V numbers are slightly higher....is anyone using a 6V RX pack with a Futaba RX? Are you using any sort of voltage regulator? Thanks in advance for the answers, John

It would be a great idea if someone could make a list of all the good information found here without all the filler....I wrote alot of info out on a sheet of paper....maybe one day I"ll get around to posting some sort of summary. RE: Kamdax Mig 15--new build--need help
Take an elastic band and cut it into two 1inch long strips...glue each strip to the front of the plane (one on top and one on bottom) where the red ring fits on...the rubber band will give the red ring something to grip onto...not really necessary, but gives you a good feeling knowing that there is no way it will come off in flight. I would highly recommend using a HS56 carbonite gear on the elevator....lost a Kamdax Mig due to gears stripping on the HS55 on the elevator (those high speed low passes and abrupt pull ups will do that if you are unlucky)....My new mig has the HS56...no problems so far....
