Woohoo! New aircraft. 1. Primary trainer. 2. Single engine, monoplane. 3. The company that constructed the aircraft gave the license to the design away free of charge, except for covering the design costs.

Zippome, you got it. The aircraft I was looking for was the any of the TC class blimps that were used in the tests that the US Army performed, with the first successful docking was achieved on December 15, 1924, and you were the FIRST with the reply "TC class blimps". Mad props to Ernie P. for his more specific reply, but you were first with the correct answer so you're up next. See the reference Ernie P. supplied: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tc-3

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
New clue: 1. It was one of two aircraft of this type used by the US Army to test a concept that was later abandoned, but the concept was developed and adopted by the US Navy later in the 1930s. 2. Although the concept the Army tested was abandoned, it was completely successful in testing. 3. This aircraft could hover. 4. The testing that was successful did involve the "Sperry Messenger" aircraft, but that is not the aircraft I'm looking for.

Just to be REALLY picky, the engines on the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter were not high-bypass turbofans: They are Pratt and Whitney TF33s. which "was a low-bypass-ratio engine" according to the Pratt and Whitney website here: http://www.pw.utc.com/about_us/classic_engines/jt3d_tf33.asp (No big deal: I just posted this for interest's sake, not to cause trouble.) :)

And Ernie P. is right again! The AGO C.I is the aircraft I was looking for. You're up! In fairness, I admit that the "Voisin Ivanov, V.I." does fit all the clues I provided so an "honorable mention" must go to The Raven.

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
Ernie, That's not what I was looking for: Also IIRC the B-36 only had 4 wheels in the original prototype XB-36 and production versions had more. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:B-36_Peacemaker_-_personnel_and_equipment.jpg http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=2558 http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/060720-F-1234S-010.jpg So, another clue: 1. Pusher configuration. 2. Designed for reconnaissance. 3. The landing gear had 4 wheels. (That's a total of 4 wheels for the whole landing gear.) 4. Biplane.

Ernie P., I had a few possibilities as well: The Bell was just the first one that came to mind. New aircraft: 1. Pusher configuration. 2. Designed for reconnaissance. 3. The landing gear had 4 wheels.
