RE: Seagull Models Harrier 3D
ORIGINAL: ben beyer Yeah, i really like the two piece wing on a wing tube. To me, at least, gluing wing halves together is a pain in the butt. But it all depends on the airplane, they're not so bad on trainers. What engine are you planning on putting in it. I'm just going to go with a Saito 100.
2 piece on a tube makes for easy transport & storage as well. I've got a pumped O.S.120III layin' around here somewhere...wonder if I could CG the tank?

RE: where can I see how i make acrobatic
Sergio, try: http://www.3drc.info/index.htm Also, several insructional videos that actually show maneuver/stick movement simultaneously, are available from some of the pros such as J.Shulman/Frank Knoll Jr, but you'll have to look 'em up. You may also want to do a search right here on RCU. The best advice I could give would be to get yourself a sim and try different inputs yourself. You never know, you may come up with a few of your own...Maybe one we can call "EL TEMUCANO"

RE: Learning to hover
ORIGINAL: BasinBum *snip* I don't have the huevos yet to bring my 1/4 scale gasser down low enough to really be able to hover it well but given the progress I have made it will happen eventually.
It will happen eventually, but only if you bring it down low and close. It's a catch 22 Example: You hover & T/R your foamy close to you, all day long, if you wish. Now, take your foamy up to about 50' hi and about 75' away from yourself and notice how hard it is to hover & T/R. Like a ballancing act, these two maneuvers require precise input at the time, or even before they are required, to maintain this vertical attitude. There is a sweet spot, with very little tolerance in any direction that the aircraft must maintain, in order to sustain these maneuvers and there is no way to make note or anticipate these tolerances, in time, when the aircraft is too far away from yourself. Take the plunge and cross the threshold...bring it down low. It's intimidating, I know, but you'll be glad you did.

RE: What are you looking at???
Good point Jon. When fear overcomes, the abillity to think is hindered. And when your abbility to think is hindered, it, in turn taxes your motor skills. Often, knowing that your equipment (and pocket) won't suffer much if you screwup, lets your mind relax, focus and concentrate. You immediately recognize the mistakes you made, your mind makes a note of that information and sends the command, through a series of neuro-synapsis' to your fingers in order to counteract the improper input. The mind...the most vital tool for 3D proficiency, and yet, a terrible thing to taste.

RE: What's best way to cut holes in balsa sheet
Try grinding the teeth off from the hole saw and sharpen the edge. (optional)Then cut a few slots along the wall of the saw. This will give you only a few "flush" teeth. I've never tried it, but it might work.

RE: What are you looking at???
4 out of 5 3D'ers recomend looking at the canopy area.
ORIGINAL: 2fast4u *snip* Just like learning to fly, things happened so fast back then and now it's easy. I'm sure the same will be true for the hover as well. *snip*
100% correct. Once you've got it, you'll wonder why you found it so difficult. As Luke suggests, the canopy area is the pivot point for all axial rotations. But, looking at this area generally only works if the aircraft is close to you. As a 3d beginner, you're likely to attempt hovering at a higher altitude. This is a natural reaction that gives the pilot room to fall out of the maneuver, however, to hover successfully you must be able to predict the aircraft' attitude before it falls too far and becomes too late to "catch", but predicting the aircraft's attitude is difficult to do from a distance. Sorta like a "catch 22". Ultimately, you will learn, that the closer the plane is to you, the easier it is to hover/TR. From this vantage point, you can detect even the slightest attitude and correct for it before it's too late. Consider it a balancing act. Initially, it seems almost a crazy task to do this with the aircraft directly in front of you, so you continue at hi altitudes with 5-15 second successfull attempts (you'll go thru this phase for a while). Then when you feel that you're about to give up, "BAM", there it is, you're hovering, in full control, just 5-10 feet above yourself. I guess the ideal place for the beginner to learn hovering would be off a cliff, or a real high platform, so the plane can be close and fall as much as it would like. My advice for now (if you're hovering up high), would be to learn how to "catch" the plane out of a hover, from any attitude, this way you'll feel more confident and you'll bring the plane lower, to where you coud see it easier.

ESTABLISHING INDOOR FLYING CLUB...NEED HELP
This may be a boring topic at the present time, however, it may help to get things back on track. I'm proposing to use the indoor gym at a local community college for our newly established club. I've contacted the administrative director that handles these affairs and she's requested that I provide organization information as well as some sort of liability protection for the club's members. We are working on a newsletter, member roster and website to present to the adminisrators and would like to include official AMA documentation, as part of the proposal. Does the AMA offer some kind of service, forms or information that I can present to the college administrators on behalf of our organization? If so, how can I go about finding these resources?

RE: cracked foam
ORIGINAL: 777 I've used CA on EPP. I did this on my PCW. As long as it's EPP, you don't have to use "foam-safe" (aka odorless) CA. If it's EPS, you must use "foam-safe" CA. If you decide on this route, try a little on a non-conspicuous area, just to make sure that I'm right.
CA works great for me. Zap it with a little accellerator, and it fuses the foam together. I mean it litterally smokes.
ORIGINAL: foofydoo how did you fix the stab on and stregthen it, I used the wire brace but a bit worried about this. Is it strong enough???????
Foof, I didn't stregthen the stab with anything initially, because on maiden, I wasn't gonna go wild. Well eventually I forgot about it alltogether. I've got over 100 violent flights and I had'nt even thought about bracing the stab 'till now that you've mentioned it. Maybe I got lucky with hi-grade wood, but I haven't needed it.

RE: Kyosho Flip 3D hinge gap
ORIGINAL: foofydoo anyone had a problem with the rudder hinges coming unstuck, my rudder came off today and was worrying about the rest of the hinges. should I remove them and put plastic hinges in???!!!!!
Foof, another suggestion would be to re-glue the original hinges into place and then, drill a small hole through the balsa and hinge itself, then use a toothpick-section, as a small dia. dowel, through the entire assembly. This will keep the hinge in place even if the glue comes un-done. Place a drop of CA on both sides of the mini-dowel (toothpick section), to keep it in place...hope this helps. Hey Arnold...I'm sure you've got more important things to do.
