RE: Help Me Pick My First HOTLINER
The Hawk F5B from icare rc is about as cheap as they get for great quality, and a wing that can take some G's. It's $319. I started with a GP Siren which is a lot of fun but you have to be really careful with that wing. I'm just finishing up my Flash II Crabon which is my first High quality Hotliner. It's a bit pricey but all of the quality Hotliners that can take the speed are. Otherwise check out the multiplex Blizzard. It's foam but I hear it's a nice cheaper option.

RE: ever going dispute electric or nitro?
ORIGINAL: john01374 This is something that you have to decide for yourself. Everyone has there preferences. I'll throw out some pro and cons. Electric Pros Ease of use. Put the batter in and run. No tuning Power and torque. If you go brushless Lipo there is just no comparison. Quite. Neighbors won't complain. Can run in doors if you want Clean. No nitro mess to clean up Cost. Electric cars tend to be cheaper than Nitro. Less parts to replace. Unless you break something the only real items that require maintenance is the motor brushes and the tires. 300 plus runs from a single $25 Lipo battery. Less tools and equipment to lug around. A basic set of tools is all that's needed. No fuels, plugs, starters etc Cons Limited run time. Figure 30 to 40 mins per battery. Motor maintenance for brushed motors. initial cost of Batteries, charger, balancer Nitro Pros Sound of nitro motor unlimited run time (as long as you have fuel) Cons Noise. Most communities will not permit the noise. At least around here Tuning. Most Nitro's require tuning before each run to compensate for air temp etc. Mess. Nitro's tend to spray unburnt fuel on body, wheels, tires, chassis etc requiring additional cleanup time Cost of fuel. A gallon of fuel will run somewhere around $25 and last a couple of hours. tools and equipment required to start, tune, maintain the nitro motor. Rebuild / replace the motor. I'm not sure what the current time frame is for rebuilding a nitro motor. When I ran them years ago the good race motors needed to be rebuild every 30 or so tanks. Power and torque. Not as fast as a brushless/lipo combo of similar or less cost. I know there are additional pro's and con's for both. I use to e a nitro guy but made the change years ago so YES my opinions are biased. For the money and the ease of use it's hard to argue with electric but do understand why some people stick to Nitro.
Run time - who wants to run that long? Battery cost, 2 words, hobby city No one uses brushed motors anymore.

RE: how often do you crash?
I fly 3-4 times a week. Some of my planes fly well over 100mph. every time I go to fly, I try to do something new or accomplish a manuever I have been working on. Hence..... I crash on average about every 4-6 weeks. If I flew like a lot of the older guys at my club, 40mph, about 2-3 a month, I could go 8 months to a year no problem. If you aren't crashing you're not flying. Obviously you are more careful with more expensive planes

RE: Great Planes Electrostick Rxr
3600mah in the electrostik will definately make it nose heavy. I use a 3200 it balanced nicely. My motor firewall is not straight at all. Have to trim the rudder. Bad craftmanship, but you cant epect much out of an ARF. I do love the plane, just wish it was put together better, luck of the draw.

Nexstar is where it's at! It is a really cool plane and for the size it is head of its class. The electristar is also nice, I had one and sold it to get the nexstar. You can still find them occasionally on ebay. The apprentice is too light weight.

Wow, Ive been researching the electrostik for a while, while it seems it has unvelievable power out of the box for the price, I have been thinking twice about it after reading on this forum. All I know is it is extremely unpopular compared to the Eflite version. Why?

Check out hobby City for batteries. as for the electrostik, I have been looking into this plane for a while, just wondering why it's so unpopular? It's a great price and looks like it performs equally or better than the Eflite Ultra stick.

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
I'm having a similar problem. The tube is supposed to be bent right? Im rebuilding my electristar and my new wings will not fit together flush, in fact theres a big gap. Im wondering now if the metal tube was bent in the crash. Looks like I need to go your route and find a replacement tube. I have realized that in looking at other electristars the wings angle up, so I would guess that there needs to be a bent tube used? Replacement fuselages and wings never fit together right. Ive been drilling and sanding all weekend. If you have any other suggestions about a good tube to use or wehere to find one online, give me a shout.

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
To anybody who can help??? Im somewhat new to Electric Flying and have been having a hard time trying to find the right weather conditions to fly in. I just bought a Hobbico Electristar, to let you know the size and weight Im dealing with. It seems every time I go out to a flying field the wind is blowing like crazy. Im a little aprrehensive about trying to fly in the wind. If I check on weather conditions what wind speeds are safe for flying a trainer like The Electristar????? It seems my smaller plane, "the skyfly" is totally unflyable if there is any wind at all. Can you only fly this plane on no wind days??? Im getting frustrated :(

RE: Advice
My son learned with a SkyFly from Fly Zone. This plane is great to learn on, and everything you will need is in the box. The cost is only $100. every hobby store has this plane as well as replacement parts. He spent alot of time on an rc simulator(Great Planes G3.5) He's twelve and after training on the sim for about a month, he started flying. After 4 or 5 Flights, he hasnt crashed it yet. I helped him a bit but Im not that experienced myself. I learned on a Hobbico Superstar EP, another great beginner plane, but this plane is made of wood, and I would figure that when I crash it, it's probably done. Unless I want to screw around trying to glue pieces back together. Go with something plastic or foam. They can take a bit of a beating. Good Luck.

Are there two or one??? Im confused, if using one battery how do you custmize the connections form the speed controller? also what is the weight difference between the two standard batteries and the two Lipo batteries? What about the diffenece in weight from the two stock batteries to the one Lipo???? Appreciate any feedback

RE: buying my first rc plane
Ive only been flying about six months, and Ive went through a couple of cheesy planes until I found Hobbico. These are the best trainers period. Easy to fly, sleek, good motor power, and enough wait to ensure you stay in control and the wind doesnt carry the plane. With that said, if you crash these planes, your gonna be digging a little deep in your pocket. Just practice. great planes flight sim is great. Take it easy your first few times out, and get with an experienced flyer. These planes are very stable, easy to land, and a lot of fun. I recommend the Superstar EP, or the new Electristar. I just flew an Electristar this past weekend and I have to buy one now. The R/C "veterans" tell me that this is possibly the best electric trainer ever.
