RE: Unionville Hobby Bushplanes
Hi Tom, I've been following your build on RC Groups. The Beaver was built in 2000, I still have it but it only gets flown a few times a year. I just masked off the stripe with 1/4" masking tape (to get a nice tight radius) and then taped paper to cover the rest. I used Walmart water based spray cans to do the white and the blue. Forget the exact brand. Doesn't match exactly but you can't tell from 10 feet away. Gold is just 1/8 " automotive pinstripe. Only the cowl and windshield are painted. The wing and fuse is Ultracote. I added 1/4" balsa stringers along the corners of the fuse to be able to round off the corners to make it more scale looking. Don't know if you are too far along to do that. Makes a big difference. Your build looks great. Wayne

RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
I've built the Hog Bipe (still going stong 14 years later), 2m Riser, Somethin' Extra (what an amazing airplane, taught me so much about aerobatics), 4 Star 40, and the Ultimate Biplane Profile. I currently have the Kougar, Astro Hog and the 1/4 scale Clipped Wing Cub tucked away for future builds. I still have my eye on the Citabria and the King Kobra. I love Sig! Cheers! Jollidude

RE: Picked up a few planes need id on one
It's an old Pilot 40 size Super Decathlon. I know this because I just picked up one last night from a friend. They are very scale and quite rare nowadays. Mine is not covered and is missing the cowl as well. It is very nicely built however. The next challenge is to find a cowl for it. Looks like the person you got it from tried to make a cowl for it. RE: Subject inspiration
The local aviation museum is in the final stages of restoring a Mark I Firefly. They hope to run the engine for the first time in the next few weeks. They have been at it for probably close to 20 years and it will be flown. I worked on it for a year or so back in the early 90's. All work done by volunteers. Cheers! Jollidude

RE: Dynaflite Chipmunk Question
34'4" works out to be 412 inches. 89 divided by 412 gives you 0.216 or 21.6%. Close enough to 20% or 1/5th, I would say you wouldn't even notice the difference with a 1/5th scale pilot. Cheers, Jollidude

RE: learn to fly
Yes, DAD will be doing some/most of the training. I had her out a couple of times late last summer and she is doing quite well. She's flown my little ParkZone electric Decathlon several times and we now have a Goldberg trainer that I picked up in the fall. She did get a chance to fly it a couple of times before the weather turned and we are both looking forward to spring. I have been instructing off and on for the last 12 years at our club and I am also a Junior High School teacher, so I'm used to working with that age group. Having said that, we do have an excellent instructor at the club who has offered to teach her if things get "ugly" LOL! Cheers! DAD [:)]

My Unionville Beaver on floats flies very well on a 56 Saito. Total weight with the floats is 6 3/4 lbs. No shortage of power, it gets off the water with authority. Cheers! Jollidude

The otter will fly just fine on a Saito 56. Mine was overpowered with a 46 two stroke. The cowl mounts flush with the fuselage. This is a very nice flying airplane. Cheers! Jollidude

It is probably a "J. Roberts" kit. I used to have one, but sold it a few years back when I figured I wouldn't build it. They are nice kits, probably from the late 70's early 80's. I'm not sure what it would be worth now-a-days. Cheers! Jollidude
