RE: YS 170 Mechanics - how to get the crank ring back in
Thanks guys! The YS is put back together. I still have some switch wiring to do before I can try the CDi but at least the engine and low oil kit is in place. I used the zip tie trick and it slid in on the first go! It was a lot easier than I first imagined. Dag! I heard rumours you made a tool out of a Coke can, did that work for you?

YS 170 Mechanics - how to get the crank ring back in
Is there some kind of four-handed magic required to push the crank back in without busting the crank ring?

RE: O.S. 160FX tach numbers?
APC 18x10 sport: 8300 RPM on a std. Lorenz tuned pipe using 15/15 fuel. Soft mounted. Idle possible at 1300 (but not recommended). Steady idle at 1500-1700 rpm.

RE: Scalar.. Anyone heard of this plane??
More info. The Mini Scalar can be built with I/C engine with internal pipe, there's even a bulge on the underside of the fuse just before the pipe would exit. You could fit an OS Hanno with Hatori 700 completely enclosed, even with the fixed gear which is optional and suitable for very good ground clearance, I'm using 15x10 with no problems. The optimal engine for this plane is either Electric or a Ys .63/Hatori short pipe combo. The "kit" is just fuse and surfaces. The balsa covered foam wing and tail are very nice and sanded to perfection. Fuse is nice and light and molded white but you will get NO formers or wood parts, you have to make everything up. Apart from CG and incidence, there is absolutely no information about where to make stab cutout or where to make the wing tube holes. The fuse is very light and I did not strengthen it very much so it is really broken in a very bad way. Right now I don't think I'll fix it. The Möbius 1600E I wanted to replace the mini scalar is not available so I'm forced to choose between an Angel S or make my own. I'm not gonna buy an Angel S... pictures will follow in due time. It's been a crazy-long time since I designed something so it's about time!

RE: Mini Scalar
The Mini-Scalar flies very well but lacks the ability to perform rolling loops properly, even when overpowered. It just lacks some side-area, it's very compact. PAF exports anywhere but it takes some weeks as the kits are made to order apparently. It crashed during emergency landing on saturday, the power cable disconnected during flight. Full report and pictures will be posted on my blog this week.

Which 60-90-size electric F3A model?
Looking for a replacement 60-90 size plane for my electric gear. 6S LiPo, 3-3,5Kg 150-175cm wingspan. I've looked at the Möbius 1600E from Japan, but what alternatives are there? Yeah of course I'm considering an Angel S 50 but _everyone_ has one and my power setup is able to pull slightly bigger planes.
ORIGINAL: jarvis johnson Mups53 is right, it will come down to juding and bias Winner's are YS 170, not a CDI Team JAPAN USA FRANCE ONDA JAS CPLR SUZUKI SEB QQ ANDREW AKIBA BPLR
That's not a very bad guess, but is Roland Matt flying? Don't forget Gerhard Mayr. He will be in the top 10 for sure, and Bernd Beschorner can make top 10 as well. Austria is also capable of being in team top three. This WC will be extremely exciting, you could easily spot at least 20 previous finalists in the lineup and with only 10 slots for the final it will be a very close race in the semis.

RE: First pattern plane questions
It's not the 2-meter, both the picture and the link show the 50-size version. The 50-size Angel is a little bit bigger than the Kyosho Osmose and Oxalys and is lighter and better suited for electrics with top hatch for battery change etc. The Modeltech 120 is a lot heavier and will cost you double to power it properly. With the Angel, go with the recommended Hacker setup which is plug and play but make sure you use a 6S Battery, 5S is not enough for F3A manouvers with that size plane.

RE: XIGRIS name of new ZN Line Plane
It would look great without the spoiler [8D] I like swept wings because it looks fast while standing still. Aerodynamically it affords more directional stability but I doubt anyone would notice much difference with so little sweep.

RE: 140L problem, again
Troy, when you say CoolPower 30% heli fuel, do you mean the blend with 22% low-viscosity oil as listed on the Morgan fuel site? http://www.morganfuel.com/cp_blends.htm My local dealer sells this blend but for some reason they claim it has only 18% oil so I've not been buying it. The dealer is probably wrong though unless there are two types of CP 30% heli blends. No oil percentage is listed on the jugs that I've seen.

RE: New plane ready for maiden flight
Here's a video of the maiden flight, you can hear the OS 200. Sweet sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aopFRB1vU1U If it wasn't for the fact the Hatori header doesn't readily fit the non-EFI engine, the pumped 200 would be a real pussycat for some of the older lighter planes, perfect for beginners because it's so well behaved and doesn't require 30% nitro. Sadly the 17x10 and 16x12 props didn't arrive in time to test them, I sold the engine last week when a used 1.60 DZ became available. I'm gonna miss it though, very light and easy to operate but in the video it has just run four tanks and stops after a while due to being run overly rich.

RE: Who sells tettra in Europe?
whoa Steve, thanks you do have a lot of interesting stuff. I like the look of the budd motor mounts. I'm looking for a very particular Tettra glow plug clip that's shaped like a clothespin and clip on from the top so it can fit down the head of a YS. A buddy of mine bought one in Japan and I've yet to see anything like it. PS - Do you kit those models? Zephyr looks very nice indeed

RE: P-11 Figure M
I assume the size of the figure-M is the same as the top hat center manouver in P-09. It requires careful positioning to get a proper straight line before the next turning manouver and not fly outside the sector.

RE: New plane ready for maiden flight
JPE, I've run it three more flights and the engine is starting to open up a bit more. I get 7500 on an APC 18x10 now but it's still very sluggish in uplines. My 16x12 prop has not arrived in the mail yet :-) I'm curious about the oil recycling tube. Why did you remove it from the carb intake and what effect did that have?

P-11 Figure M
Is it just me or is the figure M manouver from the P-11 schedule really really hard to do. I have fun with it on the simulator but I can imagine it must be really hard to make it look good in the air. Anyone else have issues with it?

RE: Glow vs. Electric. Let the discussion begin.
Cost aside, electrics make the most sense in pattern. There are benefits to glow but it requires a bit more effort, the noise issue, soft mounts, pipes, vibrations etc. But that is part of what draws me to it. Having flown glow for so many years I have to repeat what people say that I cannot imagine not having one and the extreme satisfaction of being able to make them run right. And aaaah, the smoke, smell and noise. Love it, just love it! But I'm the first to admit that if I really wanted to get somewhere and get a lot of hassle-free practice and start climbing the scoreboards I should get electric. But I won't any time soon because glow engines are a hobby in it's own right. Many people feel that way about electrics and have always enjoyed soldering, measuring currents etc. Me, I can solder just fine but I'd rather be filing away at some piece of metal.
