RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
C-mix question. I am trying to set up my thrust vectoring using the c-mix. I have the left to right servo mixed with the rudder, and the up down vectoring servo mixed with the elevator. When I turn on the mix with the switch only one servo comes to life and it moves to almost full throw in one direction but does seem to match the rudder. The other servo doesn't respond at all. How much compensation do I want to put in, full 100% in each direction? Is there anything I am missing?

RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
I thought I had blown up my transmitter when I put a reversed battery in it and I shipped it back to Airtronics for service. They didnt charge me anything to go over it and make sure it was fine. All it would cost you is shipping. Very good customer service.

RE: RCV motors.
In my experience with the 60SP and the 90SP the engines, a scoop is necessary even if the engine is not cowled (like on a test stand). Cowl or not, on a test stand or on the airplane... have something the to direct the cool air in the right direction through the fins.

RE: lx f 16
I just got this plane in kit form from BH. I was pretty excited until I opened it and looked at the manual/picture book. Am I the victim of a joke? I cant do much with a picture book. In one picture the fan is in pieces, in the next its all together. How about the steps that show you where to put all the screws and how the fan actually goes together? The rest is the same way, just pictures of what a part looks like together and finished. Is there an actual manual somewhere that tells you how to assemble this thing?

Nickel... [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6919145/mpage_7/key_/tm.htm#]Post # 171[/link] has your answer for ground clearance. 18" is probably the best choice if you have a 120SP. It's proven to have exceptional performance. If you have a 90SP, go with 16" or performance, and 18" for scale appearance for the cost of 1000 RPM (but still very flyable). Josh

Keep us posted on which set up you use. I am about to order the plane and was trying to figure out which power system will have good power as well as flight time.

RE: hobby king f-16 edf
ORIGINAL: 4stripes The STARMAX 90mm F-16 flies as good as it looks (after a few modifications). Mine has around 50 flights. First and foremost, change the fan shroud. It is junk and will crack destroying the fan. I replaced mine with the shroud from another HK 90mm fan  <a href=''http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11261''>http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11261  Balance the fan and only install spinner if adapter spinner mounting hole drilled in the center (mine wasn't so another part was fabricated similar to a prop spinner mounting nut that has large threads on one side and small on the other). The stock fan gives very good performance once balanced. Put a star lockwasher under fan to help tightening fan nut.  Open up cheater air holes with small dremel sanding drum to get enough air to fan. Original intakes way too small. It will barely fly with the original intakes but comes to life once opened up. Replace landing gear servo arms with stronger ones. They were too flimsy so I used wheels from corona 929mg and added extensions. Factory CG is fine. Make neutral elevator about 8mm below front molded stab outline (it flies with what looks like up trim). I put elevator linkage on innermost hole on servo arm for max torque. The servos are a little weak for those large surfaces and high speeds. During sharp pullouts one elevator will stall before the other causing a roll left (or right). Only tack glue landing gear plywood mounts in a couple corners with epoxy. They don't need much to hold them in, and this way you can remove them if necessary. Apply locktite to all set screws. Flap movement is limited by hinge openings. They work well for takeoff (half) and landing (full). Fly your approach with some power on. Only fly on pavement as the nose gear will collapse on rough ground. I glued a crescent shaped clear lexan reinforcement in a slot under the nose to provide a skid when the nose gear doesn't hold. The pointy foam nose will dig in otherwise and break. Apply an epoxy layer under the intake scoop, tail fins and wingtips as this will save the foam should it come in contact with the runway. Put small metal tubing over thrust vector linkage attachments. The rods will snap off otherwise as soon as the set screws are tightened. Use a minimum of 30C 6S 5000mah lipo battery (35C or 40C will give better vertical performance). I set my timer for 4 min 30 sec, then drop the flaps, gear and land. You will love the way it looks and flies!
Wow! Way to much work to be done to this plane for the price your paying. When I think ready to fly I am thinking its ready fly...... Guess I'll keep looking.

Honda Crosstour
I'm in the market for a new car. Does anyone drive the new Honda Accord Crosstour to haul around your RC Airplanes? I like Honda. My other choice is the new Toyota Venza. There is a little more room to carry airplanes, but I don't like Toyota as much as I like Honda. What are your experiences with these cars, especially in regards to hauling .60 sized airplanes? Thanks, Juice

RE: AMA District X Special Election
ORIGINAL: Longbaskt You're over-generalization of ''DOA and pipe-dream'' lead me to believe that you see no value in going into this. Others do. Does that make you wrong and others right... or the other way around? No... it means that we will do what the MEMBERSHIP wants and will support... not the EC. Just do us all a favor, and either work for this or stand aside if you won't.
Why would we stand aside and let something move forward that we feel could harm our district and waste money? When you believe something wrong is about to happen you stand up to it. What if this did happen and all this money was spent for this site and then in a few years it faced the same demise all flying sites face? We find a new spot and spend the money again?

RE: AMA District X Special Election
ORIGINAL: Longbaskt Could it be that by having a National Flying site in D-10, the largest district of members, we could actually build it larger? That would be money well spent. How many in our district go to Muncie? How many would travel a shorter distance for more local competition? Perhaps having a well-advertised and local event would draw attention to our hobby. I don't see much coverage on Channel 2,5, or 7 news about what's happening in Muncie. Perhaps it would seal the membership of those that are now members. Has anyone computed the turn-over ratio of our hobby? How many come for a year or so and then lose interest because of lack of local activities? I was at a club that rarely reached out. Now I'm at a very active and outgoing club... I never think about renewing my AMA now... before... it was a long consideration. BTW it's membership is #2 in the nation and we are always adding members. When you pile logs together the fire gets hotter! I volunteer, work at the field, and encourage others to come to our site.... what do most members do at their own clubs? If you're not personally pushing for more members and more events... the problem isn't with the AMA.. it's in your mirror. Get active in a vibrant club with open membership and dropping membership will be a thing of the past. (Sorry, I'll get off my soap-box now.) We should focus on what we get....not just what it'll cost. I think the overall value will exceed the costs. A West Coast site is EXACTLY what we should be focused on IMHO.
I respectfully disagree. Also for a district flying site to be successful it will need to host events. These events are already hosted by local clubs that need the income generated by the events to survive.

RE: AMA District X Special Election
ORIGINAL: Longbaskt I plan on casting my vote for Lawrence Tougas. I looked over these prior posts and their campaign statements. It seems to me that Mike is basing his campaign on what he did. Lawrence is coming from what he will do.
What he will do could be the problem. A district flying site would be very expensive, and with declining membership(money) I think that is not what this district needs to be focused on.

RE: TF P-40 Build Thread
Thanks P-40 DRIVER. You've been a great help when I needed it, even from the beginning of this project years ago. I weighed it. The final weight is... 10lb-5.75oz. I'm only 3/4oz over my weight target! I'm happy with that. Now I can only cross my fingers for my "swiss cheesed" ribs and formers to withstand the vibrations of the Saito 1.25. Then I'd be very, very happy. Josh

RE: TF P-40 Build Thread
I'm almost done! Absolutely everything is installed. Only the battery and Rx is temporarily strapped in. I just have to balance it, tidy up the mess of wires and tubes in the fuse, then measure the control surface throws. I don't know the weight yet, but I post it as soon as I know. A question about the balance... On the Top-Flite website, it says to locate the CG "3-1/4, at rib 6". Where is rib 6? My plans are in storage, so I can't easily look it up. Does anyone have their plans on hand to look this up for me? Thanks, Josh

RE: Broken Air Fill Valve
Yes, it is the older Robart valve. I bought it back when they one-way valve and the attachment for the fill chuck were two seperate pieces. It makes sense for a rubber disc to go inside. I'll try something tonight, or else I'll head to the hobby shop this weekend. Thanks for everyone's help.

How loud? Saito 125 without muffler.
This is a Saito 1.25 four-stroke engine with a flex pipe on the exhaust instead of a muffler. Qualitatively, how loud will this setup be?
