RE: HL-Tiger 1: Turret center point
hi again, following a Beppel's advice, i will post here the modifications i did in order to keep the firing capabilities of my VS airsoft gearbox (i switched the HL to a VS one) When i did this turret correction, i moved the center 15mm (2mm too much), but it looks 'almost' ok. when cutting the inner disk, do not cut the airsoft gearbox supports: after glueing the parts in the correct order (following Birger's guide), you will notice that the frontal bulb of the gearbox enter in contact with the new layout of the turret's bottom, thus impeding the full elevation of the gun. So i then proceeded to carefully file this part with a rotary tool, after cutting the needed portion of the ring support as you can see: same view, from below: also, some file has to be done to the turret ring itself: then moved the turret traverse engine, new supports for the tower's turn engine, made with M2x20 screws here the turret's bottom already glued and with milluput used to fill the gaps, also note one of the airsoft gearbox supports has been slightly moved and substituted, this was necessary in order to fit the VS airsoft unit the missing portion of the ring support has no effect on the turret movement and performance and i think that's all! best regards

RE: Sound options for tanks
ORIGINAL: YHR
ORIGINAL: wsn123 ''According to Thomas, the Beier system is his biggest competition so you might want to check that out.'' By the way have You informations how many engine sound samples is used in Beier module ? Benedini usues 6 samples for engine sound: M1 Start M2 Idle M3 Acceleraste M4 Moving M5 Decelerate M6 Shutdown I was listening to some Beier demos availble on their website (like T-34) and sometimes seems that Accelerate and Decelerate samples are not present - or maybe it was demos from very old projects and newer have such samples ? http://www.beier-electronic.de/modellbau/index.php Are sound samples in Beier modules are fully protected like in Benedini or are editable ?
I know little about the Beier. I agree that the speed sounds a little like a frequency shift up and not as good as the Benedini( my biased opinion) As a developer of my own sounds I also appreciate that the Benedini files are copy protected, and can only be used in Benedini modules. I am not sure if the Beier card does that to protect the intellectual property of the sound files. Hardware is only half of the game. How the sounds are built and integrated into a total package is the other half. ie. The turret rotation should not be as loud as the cannon fire, and yet that is how most of the canned sound systems are set. As you are aware the Benedini gives you total control the volume on each and every sound relatively easy, and with a programming cable can be adjusted by the end user. If someone knows the Beier system please elaborate for people who are viewing this thread.
hello, i can talk only from my personal experience with Beier (USM-HL model). The frequency shift up is true (but subtle) from the start but is easy to avoid, i dropped also from the start the samples that come with the card, and then proceed to do my own. This is what i was looking for anyway. My way to get rid of this effect was to use only 2 or 3 sounds taken from videos of the real tank. But with enought lenght to avoid the effect. The hard part is to make the samples 'coincide', i ussualy do this taking profit of a gears change. The beier USM-HL has up to 5 speed sounds forward, and 3 backwards, but you can use only one (here is when the freq shift ups enters on the scene). With "my" way, it's not noticeable at all. And i am very happy with the results. best regards EDIT: i forgot to say, that with the beier you have also total control of every individual sound, and, as it uses .wav files, they are open to everyone, i uploaded my profiles to the beier sound center too, just in case anyone want to use them.

hallo Beppel, related to the BB gun firing, i have to disagrre, it could be done i did it on my Tiki. First, using a longer alu inner tube inserted to the HL airsoft gearbox, but as i was disapointed with the standart HL gear, i then swaped it for a VS one http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=10148 http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=10148&start=20 i've to say, that i followed all these useful tips you are posting here, i found them long ago in panzerketten ;-) best regards

RE: where to find KT yellow or grey
hello, regarding the panzer dunkelgrau topic, there are no KöTis painted this way, because the germans discontinued the use of this grey as factory painting colour early 1943, and used instead the dunkelgelb. and regarding the zimmerit, yesterday i saw a site (in spanish) where a new -to me- method is explined, is EASY and CLEAN: http://www.model34.com/index.php?topic=3823.0 it involve the use of Patex Nural 25, i do not know if this brand is found in your place of living, but i'm sure there are similar products. The nural 25 is a bicomponent epoxy designed for use in car/vehicles reparations, is a bit flexible and can stand very well the vibration of the moving vehicles the pics of the site are selfexplanatory, you mix the epoxy, spread it over the 'mould', wait about 1h or until the epoxy has dried to finger contact, and then carefully you separate it from the 'mould', then you can cut it, bend it, damage it, etc... i hope you like the idea best regards

RE: Beier USM-HL soundmodul and two cameras VERSION 2.0
good finding Phil, but for me, a display of 2.5" is way tooooooo small, mine is 7" and cost me 60€, the two cams (with two receivers) 72€, the usb capture device 15€, 147€ in total (180$), with shipping included, is more expensive, but with a wider display and two cams (and one extra receiver just in case). Also, the model of the link you kindly provided us, is about 20x20mm, mine is 10x10mm, so more easy to conceal inside the tank. I've to say that i had choosen the cam because the little profile. I've to admit that the feature of record the images in a SD card is very useful, but -again for my personal preferences- driving and shooting looking to a 2.5" display is hard at least. best regards!

i agree Panther G, it was a bit of a nigthmare for me to decido what cam, what frequency, what voltage, and to find a monitor with AV input... the worse is that the usb pen to connect to the computer as to record the images, are incompatible with vista nor W7, so i'm stuck with XP in my big computer at home, in no way i've succeded in cinnect the usb recordig device to my laptop in order to record video in the 'wild', only in my home yards...

RE: Cameras on tanks
hello kev308, a while ago i put two cams on my Tiger, first, on the outside, 'camouflaged' with net: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10723642/anchors_10723642/mpage_1/key_beier%252Csoundmodul/anchor/tm.htm#10723642 but i was not happy with the looking of the tank, so i went the hard way and put both inside, one on the driver's visor, the oher on the coax MG hole (i know, i've now a 'reversed' gunsight view), i also got rid of the voltage regulator and the second 7.2V battery. As the cams are running on 5v, i tested them with 4xAA 1.2v = 4.8v and they run without any problem. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10962785/anchors_10962785/mpage_1/key_beier%252Csoundmodul/anchor/tm.htm#10962785 for gun alignement, i had brougth several transparent sheet (like these to protect the PDA and monitor displays). I place on of them on my TV monitor, and do test firings. marking the point of impact in the sheet. So in order to fire at something i only have to 'place' the dot over the target... i hope this helps you best regards

RE: Beier USM-HL soundmodul and two cameras VERSION 2.0
hello again, now the turret... the very difficult one! i've spent many hours with this part of the project. First, i filled the led's hole on the mantlet. Then i unasembled the entire turret, gun, mantlet and the other two parts of the interior of the mantlet. i started working from the external layer to the inner layer. I put the cam to look via the MG hole and tested it. It looks good, the KwK obviously obscures the view to one side. then i used the rotortool to thin the inner part of the MG hole, to let que frontal of the minicam to sits well agains the plastic. I meassured the distances and marked the second layer of the mantlet, then drilled if out and filed it with care until the cam sits very adjusted and without wobbling. After this was done, i did the same with the third and last layer of plastic that forms the gun mantlet. then the problems started... as the cam is long, it collided with the gun elevation axis and his support... so i have had to dremel out the support entirely and made a new one from a piece of some type of metal in L shape. I moved the support 4mm to the center, and then cut the gun axis 4mm too, to let space for the camera body. In this manner, it is coaxial to the gun and moves with it. Now was the turn of the lower support, the part that sits on the bottom of the tower. I cut it too, made another support and moved it 5mm to the inside. This time were 5mm and not 4mm because i glued the 'discarded' original plastic support to the top of the new metal support, so meanwhile the glue was drying, i put the two pieces togheter and the plastic moved slightly, matching exactly the form of the upper part. after gluing all the new pieces in place, i put the cam on his support, closed the two parts and tested it. No problems at all! today i will test the cam from his new location, and post some pictures of the gunner's 'view'

Beier USM-HL soundmodul and two cameras VERSION 2.0
hello, as i said in my post V1.0, i have finally decided myself to put the two minicams inside the tank. I didn't like too much the looking of the Tiger with the camo nets on to hide the cams... i witte this here with the hope it will be for some use to others, like i have taken ideas from this and other forums. if any of you can read spanish (or use chrome translator), i've a very long thread with a lot of mods to my tiger (some are from my harvest, some adapted from other people ideas) so, i went to work, i wanted one camera to look from the drivers perspective, and the other from the gunner's one. This second one i finaly did the opposite, after carefull 'study' i decido to put the camera looking from the coaxial MG hole. one for driving, one for aiming. i started by cutting open the driver's visor block, carefully opening the exact space in the rear wall to let the minicam to pass. Then filled all the interior with milliput and put the visor block in place. i tested it and the vision is perfect. now i have to mount the base support for the minicam on the inside to prevent it from moving.

I need first to do some test to see how far the signals of the cams can travel... i got a device on ebay to connect the receiver to the PC, so i'm able to record what the receiver see. best regards

RE: wireless cam on walker bull dog
hello Shenloco, this image interference is happening to me too, i bet is due the low wattage of the emmiter, i'm running a HL Tiger, so no 2.4GHz radio in my case. you can see my 'development' here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10723642/anchors_10797994/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#10797994 the problem with having only a cam in the turret is that if you turn it, it's dificult to drive unless you are able to center it again. Is for this that i put two on my tank, one for driving, the other for aiming. best regards

RE: Beier USM-HL soundmodul and two cameras
hi, the project v1.0 is finished (the v2.0 will be when i finally do all the major surgery to put the minicams inside the tank) first, i dropped the 9v battery + 5v regulator combo to feed the AV receiver on the monitor, and put a battery case with interruptor, for 4x AA 3000mAh rechargeables batteries, so 4.8v in total, and i had also put all the cables inside a little box: then came the way to camouflage the minicams. First i tried to use folliage, but the results were not of my liking after a lot of work. So i switched to plan B, the use of camo nets, I had some already done, so i cut them to form and rolled them, with the aid of diluted white glue: As i said, this will last until i venture myself on the project of punt the minicams inside the hull, one looking from the driver's visor, the other in the hole where the red lLED was in the turret, or in the coaxial MG possition. Then came the HARD work to configure the Beier with the sounds i liked. I downloaded a lot of videos from the internet where real panther and tiger engines were beign run, extracted the audio and started to build up every one sound that the beier could reproduce. Man, this is difficult! as i had never worked before with sounds, it cost me a lot of trial and error. finaly i think i have achieved a sound profile i like. Here you are the two firsts tests videos i have done. Excuse the poor image quality, i didn't have a good videocam: sound test 1: soundtest 2, here i have only changed a little the volume of one sound, because the metal gear and tracks are noisy, and the soundplay of the tank running was too much 'eclipsed' by the mechanical sounds: man, youtube eats a lot of quality! i can tell you that in real the sounds are awesome! anf finally, today i've been able to record some videos from the minicams, with a lot of interferences, i'm sorry. sigth from the minicam 1, the "driver's view": and sigth from the cam 2 on the turret roof, the "gunner's view" here the sound of the VS airsoft gear cover up the shooting sound of the sound card, you can also notice the differences of sound volume captured by both minicams. best regards!

Beier USM-HL soundmodul and two cameras
<![if gte mso 9]> <![endif]><![if gte mso 10]><![endif]> Hello, i open this tread to explain step by step the little project i have just ended. As every HL user, I was deeply disappointed with the sound performance of my tank, so I I’ve installed a Beier USM-HL soundmodul on my HL Tiger I. Also, I’ve installed two pinhole wireless cams, one on the turret, canon aligned for aiming purposes, and the other on the lower hull, near the driver’s hatch. I’ve tested them, and both work ok with one AV receiver, I have only to switch a jumper on it to be able to have one view or the other one. About the soundcard, I don’t need to say too much, sounds great! The acceleration can be heard perfectly, but in my cat with metal gears and tracks (very noisy ‘environment’) the sound results is a bit toned down. She comes with preregistered sounds, but the good part is that you can put in it all the sounds you want. The configuration software is easy to use. I’ve yet entered this terrain, I will soon. She is a bit pricey (129€+15€), but it was, for me needed, the cheapest way to get good sounds. Also, is very easy to swap it to another HL tank (if the space required is done for beforehand), two cables and running. With the engine stopped (but with the transmitter on) she has a new set of sounds, no movement sounds, but you can put ‘ambient’ sounds and run them with all the buttons and sticks positions of the transmitter. I started looking for a place inside the hull for the soundcard, and finally stripped the entire lower hull and relocated all elements from zero. I did a new ‘waterproof’ container for all the electronics, so if water enters for the lower side of the hull, it cannot harm the electronics. Also, the frontal section will be the firewall between the gearboxes and the electronics, so neither oil nor grease will be splashed to them. After trying a lot of different layouts I opted for the one you can see on the pics. I know, the receiver board is too close to the motors, but I’ve tested it, and no problems had appeared. I’ve tested the tank at my yard, and from 30m away it responds to commands without issues, and with my home between the tank and me. The tank was over his ‘bed’ (with the tracks off the ground), and from my location on the other side of the yard, I was able to hear all the sounds: engine start and stop, acceleration, brakes, caterpillar squeaks, turret left and right, gun elevation, MG and canon fire, etc… One of the batteries is for the tank, the other for the cams, I’ve a work to be tone here though, the interrupter must be located between the battery and the 5v regulator (LM2575), or it will drain the power out of the battery in a few hours. Oops, I’ve not said it before, the cams run on 5v, so a regulator must be installed to reduce the output. My initial plan was to put the cams inside the turret and the hull, to be able to achieve a ‘realistic’ view. But the reality was that the quality of the signal reaching the receiver dropped noticeably, and the work inside for accommodate the cams was not easy, especially on the turret one. I tested it putting the cam on the led hole, but the elevation mount of the canon was in contact with it, and worst, the angle of view was very restricted, I was able to see only an circular image, maybe only the 20% of the available display surface on the monitor, and the last 1/3 of the canon. Achieve a bigger angle of vision would require a rework on the gun mantlet, with big probabilities of ruin it in the process. So I decided to put the cam on the turret roof, between the commander cupola and the loader’s hatch. The power cable enters the turret via a hole in the loader’s hatch. And then, the other cam too, was located between the driver’s hatch and the Bosch light, and the power cable enter the lower hull via this hatch. So they (cams and cables) must be camouflaged, I don’t like see elements on the tank that were not there in reality. I’m working in camo nets and/or foliage to solve this. The wiring for the cams has been a bit difficult (for me) to be done, maybe it’s not a nice layout, but it works. On the AV receiver side I’ve done a similar solution for the power, but this time from a 9v battery to 5v for the receiver. I’m waiting a battery holder for 4xAA rechargeable batteries, so 1.2x4=4.8v, I will see if the receiver works with this, so I will able not to use a voltage regulator here. On the pics you will see the TFT display with the receiver attached on his back (with Velcro), and with the power wiring using the 9v battery and the regulator. I hope the 4xAA solution works; I don’t like how it is now. The receiver is located in a way that permits a quick channel change, so I can select one cam or the other. Well, after all this was worked out yesterday, I did a test. I was sitting in the middle of my home, and was able to run the tank all around my house and yard looking to the 7” display. It is difficult to drive in this manner! But was a lot of fun. Now I have to think in how to put together the display and the transmitter in a manner that I need only my two hands to run the tank…
