T14 SG lost it's data!
Howdy, I have a new T14SG radio. I set up the rates, mixes, etc for my airplane and made 4 flights yesterday with no problems. The only thing that I did afterward was to charge the TX with the included charger. Today, I managed one flight on the airplane. The airplane was way out of trim, and half way through the flight the elevator became real mushy. Upon landing I discovered that my dual elevators had reverted back to single operation. Then the flight controls began to operate in reverse (they were reversed for my aircraft). The transmitter had reverted back to factory defaults and not all at once. Needless to say, this could have easily cost me an expensive aircraft. I read up on the procedure to reset the data, and it is a deliberate process, I cannot conceive of how this could occur by "accident" while flying. Needless to say We are not amused. I now have an expensive paper weight that I cannot trust with flying my aircraft in a reliable manner. I believe that I bought a lemon, and I just hope that no one else out there has suffered a loss from this condition. I am a long time user of Futaba equipment for a reason. Hopefully this is an isolated event. In any event, I want to return this radio for a new one, or my money back. Just for the record, I have been playing with model airplanes for 39 years, and this is not my first computer radio. "Not my first rodeo". That's my street cred. Also note that I did not use the RX that came with the radio, rather I used an existing RX (R6008HS). I understand that his is irrelevant to the cause of the problem, but noted for return purposes that it was not technically "installed" in an aircraft. Best regards, Robert Fish

RE: 2015 AMA Sequences
It is my subjective observation that it is: A) Easier to get new pilots to try (Classic) Pre-Novice pattern for the first time that AMA Sportsman, and B) They seem more enthusiastic about doing the Pre-Novice again. Trying to explain the box to a newcomer frequently leads to glassed over eyes, and they say forget it. -Robert

RE: Oakdale 2 day Contest, 6/8-9
Jennifer and I want to thank Jon, Dale, Dick, Peter, and Ron & Mrs. Davies for a very memorable and worthwhile trip. A special thanks once again to Vic Anderson for driving up just to fry in the heat and judge! What a guy! Thank you Jon Bruml for a tooth and nail battle. That's good stuff right there, I don't care who ya are.... A special thanks to Jon and Dale for adding Classic Pattern to the mix. It may be a pain in the a$$ to some of you guys but we really appreciate the opportunity to get our there and bend that throttle stick forward just a bit. Hopefully the pics will load.... -Robert & Jennifer

RE: Vertigo II Build Thread
ORIGINAL: SprinklerTech BTW, notice in the photo how much filler I have on the stab fillet. My stabs were at an angle, is that the way yours are (this one was worse then the other so I had to match them). I figured it just gives you a fillet for the stab and wasn't like a partial stab like they use in plug in stabs.
Again, I have seen variation in the various fuselage samples that have crossed my hands. I will work it on my plug as you did, but I make big stab fillets with microballoons anyway when I build (I like sculpting those flowing shapes on the airframe). I am anxious to see you first pull. Keep up the good work. -Robert

RE: Vertigo II Build Thread
Slightly off of the current topic.... After running out of fuel on 2 of 5 flights flying through the new CPA masters pattern, it was time to add some additional fuel capacity to the existing 16 ounces already aboard. My solution is to add a 4 ounce tank connected in series with the main tank. The tank is mounted to a platform which bolts to two rails glued inside of the wing saddle flanges. The engine runs great, I did not even have to touch the needle. The result is I can take my time and fly it "big and proud". No need to peddle the throttle. It is a load off of my mind to have some overhead on fuel when flying an almost irreplaceable airplane like this one. I have about 20 flights on this set-up with zero problems. -Robert

RE: Vertigo II Build Thread
I was originally going to fly this fuselage, but the engine mount points about 2 degrees left. No fixing that. So it became the plug. It is moderately brittle. The one that I am flying is as tough as nails. I have one more in reserve, and it is like a cigarette ash. Here are some pics of my plug. I am reworking the saddle area, and toning down the bulges at the rear of the fillet. I presume that hey are there to make room for the hardwood blocks that were in vogue for the wing bolts back in the day. I don't dig or endorse that method, I use as ply plate (see back in the thread.) Much better load distribution. You guys are inspiring me to get back to it. I have a new 2 meter to assemble, then i think I am going to pick back up where I left off. -Robert

RE: 2013 Classic Pattern get-Together, May 25th Riverside, Ca.
IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!! The 2013 Classic Pattern Get-Together (aka the CPGT) is in the books. Major thanks to the Riverside Radio Control Club for allowing us to utilize their fantastic facility for this event. I would also like to acknowledge Tony Frackowiak for helping to secure this location, and also my lovely wife Jennifer who graciously served once again as our hostess and line chief. I would also like to thank Kevin Gribben of West Wings for his generous donation of some of his products to our prize packages. Visit his site www westwings.com for more info. We had many returning pilots as well as some new pilots. While the CPGT is a no-pressure fly-in type of event, we once again held an "non-contest", the main purpose of which is to introduce new fliers to experience what it is like to fly a pattern in an actual contest setting, call the maneuvers, etc. Much like last year, the response was positively great! Here are the results: Novice: 1. Don Fox 365.5 2. Jamie Schoolcraft 261.5 3. Eric Huffman 298.0 4. Scott Holmes 181.5 5. Chris Mahoney 143.5 Advanced: 1. Doug Woodward 327.0 2. Paul Rinde 287.5 (Flying a Falcon 56!) Masters: 1. Tony Frackowiak 1694.5 2. Robert Fish 1534.0 We present a "Pilot's Choice" award for the best Classic airplane. This year we had a tie between Eric Huffman's "A Mystery" airplane (no one- and I mean no one knows what it is) and Doug Woodward's Conquest 4 E (electric). Since a fight to the death would have been too messy, we opted for a coin toss to decide the winner. Doug called heads, and heads it was! Congratulations Doug! You must see this aircraft in person to fully appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering that went into this aircraft. Truly stunning. (Side note: I have had the privilege of flying both of these airplanes, and their flight performance is on par with their workmanship). We also have a "Longest Distance" award for the pilot that, well, traveled the furthest. Once again, that honor went to Eric Huffman, who for the third year in a row drove out from Phoenix, AZ to burn some glow fuel with us. Thank you Eric!!! I will try to post pics, no promises- you know......(Romeo Charlie Uniform). You can always view pics on (Romeo Charlie Golf). A huge thanks to all who came out and made the 2013 CPGT such a worthwhile effort. We are looking forward to next years event. See you there! -Robert Fish

RE: 2013 Classic Pattern get-Together, May 25th Riverside, Ca.
One more thing, If you don't have a "real" classic pattern airplane, don't let that hold you back. Out west, we are more about the flying and less hung up on the airplane. So bring what you have, and explore the world of one-maneuver-per-pass style of pattern flying (The way it was meant ot be!!!). Help will be available for trimming, set up issues, etc. Come on out and make it a learning experience as well as a boat load of FUN!! We are bringing a generator so electric power will be available for our electric friends!!! -Robert

RE: 2013 Classic Pattern get-Together, May 25th Riverside, Ca.
Hey All, Just a reminder, the CPGT is coming up real fast. If you are planning to attend, please sound off- I would like to have a ball park estimate if possible. Remember to bring your AMA card and a $10 spot for entry. We will have a cooler with water and some drinks, but you are on your own for food. We will have a "Pilot's Choice" award for best classic (contestant judging), a grab bag for the furthest drive, as well as a pseudo contest if there is enough interest. We did this last year, and everyone had a BLAST! It is a great opportunity to get the feel for what it is like to actually fly a pattern and receive scores both for the first timer and those who may have not done it since "back in the day". All just for FUN!!!! See Y'all there! -Robert
ORIGINAL: Roguedog Glad to help out! I reworded the petitions to reflect that I'm a concerned non-member who enoyed the facilities at Condor. I did receive an email from my AMA district VP and I was glad that the AMA is geting involved but the email refers all to the Condor site for the petitions. What I would like to know is this  Is the AMA going to send representives to help out the Condor field? It seems to me that this is a specific reason why we pay for membership, isn't it? AMA Membership for represenatation in cases like what's happening at Condor as well as the other benefits of membership. I realize that this is the start of the campaign to get things rolling but has anyone heard anything from the AMA about how far they are going to go to support the Condors? Fans of the Classic Pattern Get-Together we need your help!!
Some of you out west have heard the news of the closure of the Channel Islands Condors airfield. This is a purely politically motivated move on the part of the college. I am asking any of you that have participated in the Classic Pattern events that we have held there to lend your voice to helping us retain this world class facility, or it will be lost forever to hippies wielding butterfly nets. http://cicondors.com/?page_id=135 Your help is appreciated not only be the Condors club, but also to preserve this Classic Pattern venue for future Classic Pattern activity. Not every airfield can or is willing to host our type of activity. Best regards, Robert
