OS.46FX Prop for short ROG?
Thanks for all the suggestions....I will order a few different sizes and see how they feel....the 12.25x3.75, 12x4, 11x6, 11x4.... Yes its gonna be tricky to keep the landing gear from ripping off...specially on landing......would it be a good idea to modify the landing gear so that it is held on with rubber bands?

OS.46FX Prop for short ROG?
I'm currently using a 10x6 prop on an OS.46FX on a Sr. Kadet. My runway is made up from pretty bumpy grass (and the occasional gift from a cow). With the 10x6, it is taking a considerable distance to ROG...probably 40 ft. What prop would you recommend for a short take off, considering the kadet's bulky airframe? I am not really concerned with top speed...

Cheap Exhaust Deflector
Not wanting to wait until next week until the shops open to buy an exhaust deflector, I was looking around the workshop for some silicon tubing to use as a deflector, and I came across some of that plastic underfloor-heating waterpipe........the half inch stuff fits my OS46FX perfectly.....its rigid enough to point in any direction and it will not flop around like the silicone tube....its ok up to 80 degrees Celsius too....and you can cut it to any length you want... Seems to work ok ....so far!!

ARF's versus KIT's the saga continues
Another reason that arfs are great for beginners is because... Many people are not born-woodworkers and would really struggle with a kit...I can just imagine my brother even trying to make a kit....with 6 inch nails and a lump hammer...

My kadet setup
If u think the arf takes a long time, u should try building it from a box of sticks!!! I never knew a kit was so much work.... I wish I could get an arf.....but with shipping costs to ireland....it works out at $500....but i suppose now would be a good time to buy....because the dollar is so weak compared to the euro...

I can't believe this is taking me so long.....just finished covering the plane with solarspan on the wing and tail surfaces, monokote on the fuse because i find it easier to work around curves (like the cowl)

Why are all the threads closing down????
Yup...its hard to know where to draw the line...like the free-flight thing....its very closely related to rc....well....ok...except for the RC part :D

Why are all the threads closing down????
Originally posted by Sport_Pilot Normally I would have deleted the thread about poking fun at the French. But since 911 the French need poking at.
Hmmm.....this kind of comment is exactly why some threads should be closed down. You can be pretty sure that if someone posted something making fun of the "American Empire", it would be deleted too....i don't think theres any room for political BS here.....no matter what side of the water it comes from.. Well done to the mods for keeping this site focused on RC. Many other forums easily get sidetracked by other issues....

Looking for a method....
Originally posted by MinnFlyer Just cut the leads to the battery and solder an extension in between the cuts. Then cut a hatch in the bottom, install the battery, and re-seal the hole with an Ultracote patch. That way, when you need to get inside again, just heat it and peal it off. I've done it many times.
I like that idea! Easier than trying to make a balsa hatch cover!

Building planes… For profit
try aerial photography if you want to make some money out of your hobby....the only downside is getting public liability insurance.....I've tried over 200 insurance companies in the Uk and Ireland....and they all said "no way"...I think mostly because of the little girl that was killed in england in march by an acro wot. I have considered kit building, but i don't have enough experience doing it, and it takes so so so long to build a kit...a better idea would be to design a range of planes, establish a name for your business, buy balsa in bulk, buy a laser cutting machine and cut and sell your own kits...(boxes of sticks with plans inside)

Yep thats what i was looking for...the connector looks similar to the Hitec one...I'm just afraid to damage that connector because I don't know where u would go to get another one without replacing the battery...

or maybe just trying to help out.....because I think we all know how frustrating it can be when u can't find an answer to something...and sometimes when u read things worded differently, it all makes sense! And if a ffew people give the same reply, then chances are that its a good reliable answer and you're not gonna get electroctued or something doing it.... ;)

Battery connectors??? Why so many????
I'm just after buying a Hitec Laser 6 radio and LO AND BEHOLD, they've gone and changed the **** type of connector on the transmitter battery. :stupid: So now I have three types of connector.....the old Hitec/JR one.....then theres the strange Airtronics/Sanwa one on the TX battery....and now an equally strange one on the Hitec tx battery..... Am I the only person that this is driving crazy? How do you cope with all the different connectors when you want to connect them to your fast charger? Maybe theres an easy solution, so please someone tell me what it is before i eat my batteries in despair!! :stupid: What types of connectors available in the uk are the best and where do ya get em?

what i hate is when i subscribe to a post and wait for a reply...and then i get an email to say theres a reply....and when i go look, someone has said something like "hey barney/mike/pete/joe i saw your dad the other dad at the field"...and someone replies...."yes hes there this week, but he had a veruka last week so he couldn't fly" ...And then you have the post hijackers.....who innocently contribute to a post..and then suddenly hijack it!! ...And of course don't forget the family posters!!!!......OK WE KNOW YOU HAVE WIVES!!!! *ahem* ok I'll go have a whiskey now.....

Irvine Tutor 40 flies like a bag of cats
I've been flying trainers for about 5 years, and I never had any trouble with flat bottomed wing trainers......it was just that semi-sym that got me!! I'm still flying my kadet at the moment so I'm not grounded totally!! What I have learned is that I know which direction i want to go in this hobby...I don't want to do aerobatics or try low-wing models...I just want a nice relaxing floating plane :-) I've seen the Super 60 kit.....looks nice, maybe I'll build it too!! Thats the good thing about this hobby.....theres something to suit everyone... Andy, I'm in Co. Monaghan in Ireland....unfortunately the nearest club is about 30 miles away...and I don't really have the time to drive there every time I want to fly!... I have tried a flight sim....just the free FMS one....

Irvine Tutor 40 flies like a bag of cats
Yeah I'll build another one......just had a bad case of the crash-day-blues earlier today!!.....but I'm already thinking about building a ben buckle majestic major, a nice floater with massive dihedral, so hopefully it will be relaxing to fly...which is really what i'm looking for...... I suppose crashes are what happen when you try to stretch your flying abilities a bit too much.. http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/proddetail.asp?ProdID=103

Ben Buckle Majestic Major?
Hii, Just finished building my Kadet Senior from a kit and love the way it flies....and after the demise of my first semi-symmetrical plane, I'm looking for some therapy in the form of a kadet-type project...I like the look of the Majestic Major......but I'm not sure how well it would handle wind or how well it would respond to controls.... anyone got any views on this plane? Irvine Tutor 40 flies like a bag of cats
Yes, after a second flight today, I'm getting the hang of it....the main differences are that it doesn't seem to have the same lift as the flat bottom planes, and aileron turns require more elevator and it flies faster.... I adjusted my aileron neutral position and I think it did make a difference...its not as squirrelly now....thanks for the help...now its all down to practice...
