RE: P-80se start issue
Well the culprit finally showed its ugly little head, it is in fact the starter motor. After a talk with Bob Wilcox this morning and explaining in detail what I was up against he mentioned to double check the continuity at the base of the supports that hold the start motor in place under the cowl. I did this and sure enough jumping the wires with the proper voltage nothing happened. Great, the short is in the A frame that supports the start motor, I thought this because I direct wired the motor and tested it yesterday and it worked fine. Well to day when I removed the motor again from the turbine and jumped it, nothing happened. So while holding the motor in my hands and holding the jump wires at the same time I spun the motor shaft and OFF IT WENT!!! Disconnected the power and then touched it againnothing. So clearly there is a short in the electric motor that likes to show its self when he feels like it. I'm happy to say a call back to JC and Scotty is dropping a new one in the mail as I write this.. I did learn from Wilcox that the beep sounds do in fact come from the motor its self so this totally explains and confirms the issue I had. Thanks again to all, I hope this helps someone out in the future.

RE: anyone know this jet or seller?
This is clearly something stolen or somebody got it at a yard sale, the person selling it uses generic terms other than the items that have descriptions printed on them. Has no idea what he is selling. I can see enough to see it looks built wrecked.

RE: P-80se start issue
Well after exhausting all tests it has come down to the circuit board under the cowl. Pulled the start motor off (EASY) and direct powered it and it spins up just fine. hand spun the turbine and the RPM does read out on the GSU, also the EGT is showing on the GSU so I can only conclude that there is a disconnect somewhere within or too the circuit board. Thanks to all who offered up ideas and the PM's

RE: P-80se start issue
Well Vin You may have nailed it!! I tried to spin up the engine on the GSU and sure enough it won't, the clutch does fee wheel but does not move at all when powering up the system. I then hooked up the other P-80 and it does turn about two revs and at the same time gives me the audible beeps that are missing on the original engine. I pulled the little cover off the end of the case that covers the electric start motor and it looks like there are just two screws and a nut that hold it in place, anyone removed one before?? I would rather test the start motor out of the engine so as not to short something out an burn up the circuit board, that would be my luck. Ideas??

Would you go skydive without a backup chute?? [:D] A backup is just that, a backup. If you never use it you could argue that you did not need it, however in this case a backup means you might get to go "back up" [:D] Cheapest insurance when you think about it.

RE: P-80se start issue
Thanks guys for the input. After testing with all new cables and a different ECU, no change. I set another P80se next to the one mounted on the model and hooked it up using the original cables and that one works!! So that tells me that something is wrong in the original engine, what that is I don't know. I know its not the glow plug because I changed that over to the new engine and it works fine. I guess it could be the start motor or maybe the EGT or the circuit board under the cowl. I did remove the cowl and don't see any glaring issue thou. Again, the normal beeps you hear are before anything starts to turn or move in anyway so I don't know if the start motor could be it. As those who own a Jetcat know when you first turn on the plane you get a couple of quick beeps. I'm not getting that sound either. All I know at this point is the either ECU works just fine on the other engine and the original cables also work fine. This is not a kero start.

RE: P-80se start issue
Thank you TD I will give those a look. since I basically have a complete second engine I figure I will just start at one end and move to the other end by replacing with a new part to see if that isolates it. I have already tried the other ECU so I think I can rule out a blown ECU. Again thanks for the help, I will post my findings!!! Thanks Guys

P-80se start issue
Hey Guys Being its the weekend and not able to contact Jetcat until Monday I thought I would ask and see if others have ran into this issue. Put in two great flights this morning and after a quick charge, went to start for flight number three. Moved the throttle trim, move the throttle stick-nothing. The lights on the IO board cycle in order like they always have but I noticed there are no audible beep sounds like you normally get. Even when you first turn on the receiver you normally get a couple quick beeps, not getting that either. This is about the 20th flight on this engine and has been flawless so far and I'm sure its just some little gremlin. I did try another ECU that I have for my second engine and its the same, no change. Also did the reprogram and again no change. Batteries are fully charged, no issue there. I have not changed anything and can't see anything disconnected. Is there possibly something under the purple engine cover I should check or are those components sealed anyway. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

RE: How to desolve Hysol
If you are trying to get between two surfaces you may try a hot wire like used to cut a foam wing. You could practice a bit with some glue and parts and play with the temp.

RE: BVM Rafale - flight characteristics
ORIGINAL: tobba Hey Craig - thanks, love your machines. Its all about the build for me - not interested in ARF's. I've done a few BVM models and in the middle of a Tomahawk Hawk at the moment. See my Hawk at: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9345755/mpage_11/key_/tm.htm A shot of my BV Mig - sport scale but great fun building this one. Thanks for the info, The Rafale seems maybe more appealing purely for the more controllable landing setup. Regards Craig
If you are looking for a build you could not go wrong with either jet or any BVM kit for that matter. I'm working on three BVM F4s right now and have seen the construction of a Rafale. The BVM F100 is also an awesome jet to build having done three of those, and its success at the competition level not to mention at the field on any given Sunday make it a winner too. Great to see interest in doing a full on build!!!!!

RE: Byron Corsair Help
I had one back in the day and it flew awesome. Flaps "YES" without a doubt, it lands very well with flaps. I had a 3.7 sachs and it was not a dog at all. I would love to have another one. I lost mine at the last Byron show they had at the original site. Damn radio locked out (early PCM) and it went in behind the scene. I ran a 22x6-10 prop and it had a hell of a sound with that combo. You will love the model. I talked to Iron Bay classics this past year and although the really don't produce many kits but only parts, they would make a complete kit if requested.

RE: CLEVIS FAILURE :Quicker than you can count to Three
So sorry for your loss. In just the last year I have found three brand new Sullivan clevises right out of the package to be bad. Not broken pins but the end of the pin that is riveted in was not firmly in place. It would have broken off had I just tried to hook it to a control arm. Now I look each one over real close and don't assume its fine. Overall I think they are the better clevises on the market but if its made it can fail. Sucks dude

RE: Hardest to fly jet
ORIGINAL: flyinfool1 None of then are hard to fly. It is the point where you want them to stop flying but still be flyable that is hard on some. As was mentioned repeatedly above, once you develop the skill set for your jet, AND get it set up properly, none of them are hard to fly.
+1 Years ago I had a Byron Corsair and it flew about as easy as you could have a WWII fighter be. At one of the Byron shows back in the day guys would come up and ask how do you still have that, those things fly awful????. Just goes to show you that everyone has their own idea of what is or is not easy to fly. Now forgiving, that is another talk show.

RE: Canopy Help
Never have found a way to remove it other than sand it off. The Ca remover agent will also eat at the plastic so that does not help either. What I have done is sand it our with 1000+ grit "WET". Then clear the entire canopy, not fun but not to bad and it will totally fix the problem. In fact it will look better than before if your clear job is good. Hope this helps
Not sure what the issue would have been, the kits were first sold with Kingcat gear and they have an excellent reputation.

RE: BVM F-4 build
Hey John, I like the magnet idea. What if you also in addition to that use a couple dowels to key the nose cone on. This way the magnets have no load on them even in a hard landing, the dowels would keep the cone from being able to flex downward at all. About to get after the three I have in my shop as the snow is about to hit the ground.
