RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
Excellent news BJ! Congrats on it starting and running! :) Jon, as always your engine sounds great in the air. Pisser the video cut out. Although I keep my engine shining like the crown jewels, I have to admire the look of your engine. It looks 'real'. A real radial in service is always a bit oily and grungy looking. So yours looks very good.

T-T, man you got a really good deal on that SealAll stuff. I went to the 99 cent store looking for it but they did not have any. So later I shopped around online to find it and saw it's $9 bucks a tube normally.

Looking at that old thread, led to his current Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.3390357156578.2135176.1199086457&type=1 On it he says all the photos of his engine were lost in a hard drive crash. The photos that are up now were taken recently, and he is still flying this airplane!

RE: Sterling 48
Even though it may seem 'counter-intuitive', many times I have seen that going to a smaller prop improves performance significantly. I'm sure you know Dan, but for those that may not, prop size is like the gearing on a car. Too tall a gear ratio, and the motor lugs, overheats, and speed suffers. (It's an inverse relationship. 2.56:1 is 'taller' than 4.11:1) Going to a smaller prop is like going to a lower ratio gear in a car. Of course, it's possible to go to a too small prop as well. And go nowhere. :p There is a sweet spot that will be the ideal situation of speed, run time, motor temps. And it really helps if you have a box full of different props to test. That's an expensive proposition when using bronze or brass props. Thankfully, there are inexpensive plastic props that can be found, used for testing, and then a suitable bronze prop substituted for it when the sweet spot is found.

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
I will be posting a full report, with photos, and a video, after I run the engine. Right now I am waiting for some methanol to arrive so that I can blend the 7% oil content glow fuel that can be used with this modification. Caro, doesn't the Saito R-325 use a fan of some sort internally?

RE: Sterling 48
Try this: Click on RCU page, such as Reviews. (I have done this one myself). When you get the AVG warning box, simply acknowledge it, by clicking on the close button on the box. Now, continue surfing the page. When you click another link, such as a photo, you will get the AVG warning again. Again, close the box and try to surf the RCU page you clicked onto. It is annoying as hell, but you can get through at least a little bit. This is with Chrome as my browser. No clue how IE acts.

RE: FA450R3 - Raiders of the lost RPM's
I think it's just an 'audio illusion' you may be hearing due to one engine is at a much higher idle speed than the other, the camera microphone is also a lot further away, and the exhaust pipe material is different.

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
Watch it closely. Excessive oil in a crankcase can be a potential problem. It gets whipped up by the crankshaft counterweight and other internal reciprocating parts, turning it into a froth. It also wraps itself around the crankshaft, weighing it down and throwing it out of balance. Just keep an eye on it for awhile. ;)

RE: ASP/MAGNUM FS400AR Rebuild/Overhaul
Rev: The carb can be moved to any position. It is made this way so that if your model airplane fuel tank is higher/lower than the carb centerline you can adjust the carb location instead of modifying the airframe. Just be sure that you are keeping the carb in the center of the fuel tank. You may also need to re-position the engine mount for the choke rod cutout. Re: the plug issue. This was brought up earlier in this thread. Apparently O.S. had the plug in their FR-5 at one time, IIRC from the discussion. Later engines did not have it, but the language remained in the manual. Perhaps Sanye just copied the OS manual for simplicity sake. It's in this thread somewhere if you want to go digging.
