RE: Epic LT 120 from Nitro Planes
An airplane is an airplane. An ARF is an ARF. :p Shouldn't be too hard to throw together if you have built anything before. I don't know anything about your model, but I did find the website for the fullsize Epic LT and maybe this will help you with details and schemes, etc: http://www.epicaircraft.com/index.html

Ray, In order to not hijack Tomas' thread anymore, I have moved my buildup of this ARF over to RCU's sister site WattFlyer: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=662646#post662646 :)

Ray, I am normally a glow engine user and if I was using glow it would be a four stroke for sure. That big two stroke muffler sticking out the side looks nasty! [:'(]

RE: VQ PILATUS PORTER PC-6 NEW COLOR SCHEME!
Well, so far I have soldered the gold connectors on the ESC, drilled my three props I bought to test on this motor, and made a test mount to hold the motor. Read the manual on the ESC and am charging up my DX7 so that I can set up and program the ESC. Then it will be test time out in the back yard. I have also been trying to read up and learn more about these electric power systems. I think I chose a good enough system. Reading about the cooling issues on the batteries and speed controls I believe I will have to open up some sort of slots in the bottom and sides of the fuselage to let hot air out. Might actually be able to make it look sort of scale like as the latest versions of the Turbo Porter have more vents and air intakes then before.

RE: Stuck in Woodland, Calif
Hey Jeff! Thanks for the invite. :) I would love to go check out RC Country in Sac. I wonder if they will be open the day after Xmas? My step-daughter has lived in Davis for 11 years while going to UCD and then later working there and now has just moved to Woodland and is getting married and will be settling down there permanently it seems so I might as well get educated on the flying/boating sites up there as well as good hobby shops because my wife and I already travel up there a few times a year and when grandkids come along it will be a lot more I can bet!

RE: VQ PILATUS PORTER PC-6 NEW COLOR SCHEME!
My power system arrived today from Hobby City aka Hobby King aka United Hobbies. [:)] It's a pretty big motor, about as large as my biggest boat motors. Looks well made. I read the reviews on H/C's website and it sounds like a winner. The ESC looks good on paper, hope it holds up well. I have had a lot of bad luck with some other ESC's I have purchased from other Hong Kong dealers and used in an airboat. Bought five, fried five. [8|] I am attaching some other pictures of what came in the airplane box too. I think I am ready to start building this ARF. [sm=biggrin.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Sepulveda Basin
Hansen Dam I started flying in that dirt lot in 1974. I regularly am at Hansen Dam at the lake. I have observed the "park flyers" using that lot for the past couple of years. Truth is, there are are more than just small foamie park flyers using it. I am talking about the high speed, extremely loud EDF's that have been flying there. No glow powered plane I am aware of that has ever been flown there comes close to the extremely loud shrieking noise of the EDF's there. I would imagine the neighbors living in the surrounding hills have gotten tired of the noise. That may be part of the reason for the sudden closure, complaints of noise from the people living around the area. Strike one. Another guess is that flying model aircraft at Hansen Dam Lake is prohibited. Well, the lifeguards tower is in a position where they can see model airplanes, being operated from that dirt field, actually flying out over the lake. Have seen it many times myself. Strike two. And third, the EDF's and also some speedy prop jobs have been observed using copious amounts of airspace altitude (read in the flight path of Whiteman airport traffic). The LAFD helicopters come through that area routinely to land at their base at Whiteman. No doubt they have had to dodge the area from time to time because of high flying model aircraft. Strike three. More possible reasons: The area is heavily equestrian. The riding trails are under the flying patterns of the model airplanes. It probably annoys the riders, and maybe spooks the horses. The equestrian community is a very powerful lobbying force. The have more pull than you may realize. I am sorry to see it shut down. I had been planning on bringing my own electric park flyers there. However, I am not surprised it has been made off limits.

No I do not think it is required. However, I also think it is a good idea to have a glow driver, if only an onboard battery that keeps the glow plugs lit at all times. Consider it a cheap insurance policy. ;)

Pimp My Engine [:D] No doubt it is gawdy. But so are all commemorative editions of anything. Seems they all get gold plated. I am a retired mechanic. RE: OS Engines Four Stroke Disassembly Video
Excellent video Greg! :) May I make a couple of suggestions? I would advise people to use a wooden dowel to assist pushing out the front bearing after the case has been heated. And if tearing down a well used engine I would advise people to try to keep certain components in order such as the cam followers and pushrods. And lastly advise people to remember, or make a note on the orientation of the connecting rod, if applicable to this engine. :)
