RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
For me it wouldn't matter if I oiled my bearings. I would crash and be forced to replace them before they wear out by themselves :)

Cable tie? No, I thought it was a Zip-tie. NO IT WAS A CABLE TIE!! Oh well, doesn't matter, they both do the same thing... Is that how it goes on RCG? Haha, I hope not!! Tonight I may get started on some of the wiring for the quad copter, especially for a way to neatly get 4 Turnigy Plush ESCs to a common plug. I am thinking to use big 6.0MM bullet connectors to an XT60 Battery lead, then 6.0MM bullet connectors to the ESC leads. The big connectors are so I can fit all 4 wires, solder it up and shrink the whole thing down! I have got 4.5 meters of de soldering braid which I have been wanting for a long time, I think it will last me for a long time! I have always wondered what it would be like to be a pilot and pull High G's. Glad you had fun Edmund.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
Haha Rob, I told ya to keep yer paws off the 130X :D Glad the blade ejecting did not injure anyone. The main blades are like knives and the whole thing is one big flying chainsaw! With one of my MCPXs the tail boom is a little longer than the original, not the full 3cm that was suggested. The result is not a very good tail hold. One thing that will be very difficult to replace is the canopy posts from the main frame. On one of my MCPXs I only have the top 2 canopy posts. Also Rob you were once mentioning in your videos about you building a HK450GT kit and fitting it with a scorpion motor and a 60 Amp ESC. That would be one ripper of a helicopter! Fixed my #2 helicopter with a new flybar, main gear and main blades, so that should be all good. As for the #1, you all said that it was one of the newer HK401b gyros that was causing the tail wag. However I remember Rob being able to hover it with no tail wag with the DX7. Quite perplexing!

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
Hey everyone! My flying streak with the #2 came to an end today! Was a typical beginner crash and had a blade strike, while landing a tad on the tail. Result = Stripped main gear, bent tail boom, bent flybar, busted main blades and thats about it. Main shaft hasn't bent, which is lucky. And as for the feathering shaft, I have absolutely no idea, but I don't think theres any damage to that either. Luckily, no damage to the fragile HXT900 cyclic servos as they are a pain to remove and install. My #1 helicopter is starting to frustrate me! Even with the gains down to the low 50s on a Spektrum radio, there is still a wag. I recall that someone said something about the tail servo and how far up the servo arm the ball link is attached to. Tail servo is a HK933MG servo, gyro is a HK401b. The beast helicopter is a frustrating build too. Upon realising that the belt was in the wrong direction, I flipped the belt and it was slipping everywhere. Changing the belt tension didn't help either. Upon realising the belt was dead, I decided to replace the belt. So I found a belt in the box that Phil gave to me. Silly me didn't check its length, and when I mounted the tail back on the tail boom, I realised that the belt was way to long, presumably for a 500 size heli. Oh well, my mistake! In my previous big order from HK, I placed an order for a Phoenix flight sim dongle. Suprise suprise, it WORKS! At least with phoenix v3.0p. Don't worry, I'm not going to give up! The satisfaction from flying one helicopter through 6 lipos in a row without crashing beats anything else!!!

@Phil - Good to see you mate! Glad the planks are your more relaxed form of RC! Hopefully your maiden of your balsa plane goes well. I would assume that crashing one is not like foam in the way that foam is just CA/Hot glue it all back together again, rather balsa is crash, swear alot and buy a new one! Well, I have an annoying problem with my #1 450. When I take off, it wants to lean to the left and back at the same time. Even though I have my swash absolutely level and pitch is 0deg at mid stick. The swash also moves up and down the pitch range perfectly flat. Even so, it wants to move left and back.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
Well, had another great day of flying. This #2 heli is my favourite, only because it flies properly! Over the course of 6 packs, I was flying side to side with some aggression, all while being in complete control! It was amazing to see how much I progressed in the 6 packs! However I will need to check my blade tracking so that it flies more efficiently. Also put about 4 clicks of left trim to correct the tail, but there is still some drift. I will see what I can do to fix this. On the Beast helicopter, I think I will need to replace the tail blade grips as one of the screws hardly holds one of the blades. On the #1 helicopter, even though I have a digital servo (HK 933MG) it seems to wag alot @ 62.5 gain, and also seemed to piro to the left. I am not sure how it flies, but when I saw this happening, I backed off the throttle. It also tilts diagonally to the right rear side, even though I have levelled my swash perfectly. Need to fix these problems before I crash the #2 helicopter. Flying side to side gave me some ideas on how to do some FF. Most importantly, it told me that once I am flying in a direction, the rudder will not affect it by itself. Instead it requires rudder + cyclic input. Also had a father and son who talked to me after I landed. Had a nice chat, and the father told me about how he had a coaxial but he couldn't get it trimmed, so instead he tried planes. He said that it wasn't as bad, but he gave up because he could fly it for a bit, then he would crash it. Generally when someone asks me questions, I aim to be as polite as possible. After all, they could work for the council and I don't want to give them the image that RC flyers are disrespectful! Otherwise I wouldn't have an oval to fly at locally.

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
Well, flew 2 packs for my 450 helis today! As before, I flew my #2 G/MT helicopter, this time was all in idle up. There was also a fair bit of wind, so that was quite a challenge for me. Luckily, this all didn't end in a crash. So then I put a battery into my #3 helicopter. Im gonna call it the beast because of the 2218 motor and the sound it makes! Did a pre flight check, and the swash would bind when full negative aileron+elevator. I thought that it would be ok for my flying, but then common sense kicked in and I swapped the battery back to the #2. Had another flight in it, and it was nice. Had a few nervous moments with the wind, but no crash! Only niggle was the rudder would go to the left by itself in heading hold mode. Nothing major, I will re-do my tail with this in mind. Probably will change the linkage rod by a few turns and see how that goes. Also need to check my blade tracking as it was a tad off. Then I whipped out the MCPX. With sentences in my mind like "Thanks to the FBL gyro it basically cuts the wind," I was confident. Lift off was ok, and hovering it in small winds was fine. Then, a big gust of wind came, and it climbed altitude, and also rolled to the right a tad. First I corrected the roll, but then the wind took it way left, and then the tail went absolutely spastic. In despair I tried to level the MCPX. Not sure what happened next, but it forward rolled into the turf. Inspected damage, and only a linkage rod from the swash to the main blade grip was missing. What a crash resistant heli! Hope your flights weren't like my flight of the MCPX...

Hey guys, I have a small issue to which I am absolutely perplexed! I have a HK401b Cyro and a HXT900 servo for the tail. When I give right rudder, it piros left and vice versa. If I flip the Direction tab, it piros out of control because it is compensating in the wrong direction...

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
Hey guys, having a bit of a problem as far as my MT kit goes... Just spooled up the motor to check if it was spinning in the right direction, and something didn't sound right. It sounded as if something was restricting the movement of the motor and the motor RPMs were going up, then down even though my stick was in the same position. So I checked the belt tension, all good. Meshing between the pinion and main gear was good. However I am not sure about the meshing of the tail drive gear and tail belt gear. This seems to be the problem because when I spin the head in the opposite direction, it is not smooth unlike both of my GT frames. A tad frustrating, but oh well...

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
Well I am still around. Wanted to fly my 450s earlier this afternoon but the weather closed in! Hopefully I will get the weekend! Head is now all perfect on both of my 450s, and I did a little more work on my up and coming one, which is waiting for a tail servo. I have a few LH-GY520s in the bag from Rob and Phil, would they be better than a HK401b? Also an Mimi-MEMS GA-250. Is the Detrum GY48V the same as the HK401b? The tail servo will be that new TGY-306G servo from HK which looks to be an ablsolute ripper. What I have found with the new build is that the MT frame, the one where you need those servo mounting parts absolutely loves the HK939/929MG as the cyclic servos when the mod is performed on them. This works well for me as I have alot of 939/929MG servos and like 3 spare MT frames! Them 550 helis look absolutely amazing! Will hopefully be able to set up my MCPX exactly like the 450s as my MCPX is very twitchy compared to the 450s... Phil should bargain to have access to RCU :D Hope all is well, Im all geared up for hopefully a nice weekend!

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
Well, what a day today!! Woke up today with a set goal.. to fly one of my 450s! So before I left, did the usual pre flight checks.. On #1, the 50% pitch did not give 0deg of pitch. Tried to fix it, but made it worse. as they say, if it ain't broke.. On #2, which was the first helicopter that I built ALL by myself with no help, gave me 0deg of pitch. Then I checked over all the gyro settings, all seemed to be OK. However, this helicopter had not been flown before, whereas the #1 had been flown previously by Rob! Went to the local oval, and spooled it up. First lift off was to make sure that the helicopter wouldn't piro like crazy. Gave some corrective aileron, and made it worse! Chopped the throttle (I was only like, 2 inches off the ground) and checked my aileron. Yup, it was backwards! Fixed with swash mix. Then I had proper lift off. I expected it to be like an MCPX where the smallest correction would be enough, but the sticks honestly felt dead. Knew it was the expo, which was on 25%. So I landed, and adjusted to 10% expo. It was better, but not as touchy as I would like. I think its the size and flybarred nature of the thing though. There was also some wind, I would estimate 5kph which is about 3mph. It was enough to make a difference, but then again, my knees and hands were trembling! Thats how phreakin nervous I was! So I took off once more, and noticed the throttle/pitch was not as responsive as the MCPX. That could be due to the swash mixes and TH/PIT curves. My main suprise was the tail. The HK401b gyro at 64.5 percent (Spektrum Radio) gain was very solid, but then again, I didn't do any FF. I will up the gains slowly in the future! No waggy dog tail like my maiden of my #1 which Rob and Phil saw. That for me, was a very pleasant suprise! The tail servo, by the way, was a Henge 922. As for the #1 helicopter, I think that I have messed around with the links way too much. They are very worn out, which isn't good. Come to think of it, I may also be able to do the servo mod to the 939MGs that are on it. That, and to re-do the head completely! So for today, I will go over my settings and have another flight hopefully tomorrow. Sorry that theres no video, I haven't got a #16 Camera! There are SO many different choices on ebay, and I have no idea which one is true to its specs. If you guys bought one, can you post a link? Preferably one without the SD card. Hope you guys had as good of a day today as I did!

How would the Esky EK5-0006 3800KV motor compare to the 2215 in efficiency and that is the motor that I have in both of my completed helicopters. Hopefully if it is more efficient I will use it in my #3 along with the TGY306G servo.. Finally managed to break one of the canopy posts on my MCPX, lucky it was the one that points towards the nose!

Well... Ordered a massive order from HK full of well, bits and pieces! Things such as epoxy glue, hacksaw, the TGY-306G Servo and a dremel! Also various parts for the quadcopter: ESCs, Props, Motors and alike! Total order value was ~300$. This means I am currently in debt! (To my parents :D) I have been keeping my thumbs in shape with the MCPX. It is such a great little helicopter, I just need to persuade myself to get outside and fly my 450s. Atleast when the weather is nice! Currently a thunderstorm is in my area, with windy days before that. Hopefully the weekend is clear! Does anyone have any suggestions on a very efficient 450 motor that would give long run times? Something to learn hovers on, then I can swap it for a spare 2218 that I have. I heard that esky make a very efficient motor, but cannot recall the motor specifically... Long flight times is what I am after @ my stage.

I reckon that unless the A-Spec batteries have a longer lifecycle than Nano-techs, they aren't really worth the extra $ unless you do Hardcore 3D, or if your motor sucks big amps. Remember that 65Cx2200mAh=143000mAh=143 Amps Constant. This would give you a flight time of <1min, and thats really pushing the LVC... However I have no idea how they would compare to nano-techs as I don't have any. Simon, Rob and Phil, care to order some and review them for us?

Mainly all for the upcoming quadcopter though... 2x2200mah 3S 35C batteries (bought these as they had the best value in discharge rates, apart from the 20C which is too low) Accucel-6 LiPo charger as my mate hasn't got a lipo charger... Extreme Accuracy Prop/Rotor balancer (Bought this because I haven't got a blade balancer and also to balance the props to have as little vibration as possible.. HK KK board which landed in AUS warehouse not too long ago. Nice and cheap. Also found a HK550FBL from HK Hope all is well

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part II
Heya guys! Went to the hobbyshop which is run by snobs who look down on you if you have anything thats not Traxxas/HorizonH/Align. Luckily they have lots of CF tubing!! Asked them for a 2mm Rod, they had that, luckily I didn't tell them that I use them for cheap @$$ tail booms for my MCPX!! Very reasonable price of $3 per meter. I even asked the owner what would be the best way to make a flat spot and he said find the finest file that you can. My neighbour had a whole set of files, so finding one was very easy. Making a flat spot was very easy, and I filed the tube outside so I wouldnt breathe any CF dust. Wires were wrapped around the outside, and the MCPX was reassembled. MCPX #1 - The one which was obviously banged around the most! Pete said that I should use it for parts, but anyway, if it flies, it flies! This one has the Advanced blades on it. MCPX #2 - The newer one (Still a V1) which was realatively new one which has the training blades. My favourite and most stable, probably due to the tail blades. I installed my longer homemade tail boom on it. All I can say is this - #2 now flies like a DREAM when it is in the air! The tail is just so incredibly solid, even when doing a few pitch pumps. Due to its newfound stableness on the tail, the whole heli just feels alot more stable and I have to make less corrections to keep it in a hover! #1 has the stock tail boom on it. The boom hole is quite worn out on the frame, so the tail hangs to the left, making orientation quite hard. Flys a tad less stable, but I still love it as it keeps my thumbs going. All of this gives me no excuse to get my 450s in the air, but I gotta wait till the weekend :(

Today I had a couple more flights with 25% Expo and in Idle Up! Also a bit of comedy for you lot, Pete had two chargers in the box, one with AUS plug, the other with USA plug. Usually what I do is bend the two prongs to the AUS plug's angle and presto, but this time, they snapped! I was not so happy! Luckily for me I have lots of connectors and wire, so in 10 minutes, I made myself an XT-60>E-Flite Micro plug charging lead. Now I can charge my MCPX lipos with my HK ECO-8 charger! My current curves for my MCPX: Norm - Throttle: 0-40-60-80-100 Pitch: 30-40-50-75-100 IU1 - Throttle: 85-80-75-80-85 Pitch: 0-25-50-75-100 The curves are perfect for my level because when I hover in normal, I flip the switch and there is no increase in headspeed. Any other mods that you guys recommend, aside from the longer tail boom? Blasted E-Flite power plugs! At least I now have a 6V Power Supply... Now I will go down stairs to fly some more!

The grommet mod probably explains it... Pete gave me two MCPXs, one with the grommet mod, one without. The one with the shakes is the one with out the grommet mod, so I will mod it! Another question, In my beginning stages I kept breaking the tail boom. To get my other MCPX back in the air, I need a new tail boom, but they cost $16 for each one! Any way to make my own? Would an aluminium tube work? If so how can I take the tail motor off its broken tail boom?
