RE: Super slipery track!

Super slipery track!
Hi, I just started racing on a new track which is hard pack with fine gravel on it which makes it super slippery. My current setup for the diffs is 5k front, 5k middle, and 1k rear. That setup was fine on my old track but on this one, its almost impossible to drive. I have trouble keeping the car in a straight line + whenever I come into a corner, the buggy spins on itself just as I release the throttle. What diff setup should I use on this track? Thanks

What's up with the Hyper 9?
I just got a brand new one recently (I did not buy it - I traded it against an old touring car that I had). At first I wasn't very keen about my new acquisition as I rarely hear people talk about it or see the car win anything. As soon as I got it, I ordered the 4mm chassis, front and rear CNC chassis braces and also the CNC machined top plate as I thought the car looked a bit fragile without those options. Yesterday I ran it for the first time and ...[b]OMG!!!!!!!![/b] The car is amazing. It has incredible steering without oversteering. It behaves like a 1/10 touring car. I crashed a few times because I was always turning too early thinking that the car would slide a bit before making the turn but no. It would turn just as you touch the steering. My previous car was the MP777 WC with big bores. I loved the Kyosho a lot and I wanted to get the MP9 but I could not afford it so I was hoping to get the MBX-6 thinking that they were the only two buggy worth considering. But now after driving this Hyper 9, I'm puzzled. Why is it not more popular? So who else is running this car? Am I the only one who was amazed by it?

RE: What engine? $225 max
THe new RB concept Killer 9 can be bought on ebay for $229. That's just $4 on top of your budget. I think its the best budget engine that you can get these days. Its some sort of World S5 if RB kept its old way of labelling its engines. 3PKS 2.4Ghz vs. DX3R
I am trying to decide between the two. I listed the pros and cons of the two. I just want to know if I have got my facts right. 3PKS Pros: - More features than the DX3R - Futaba reliability - Backlit screen Cons: - Big, heavy and old design - Heard rumors about receiver overheating DX3R Pros: - Looks better than the 3PKS (according to me) - Much lighter - Uses only 4 AA Batteries Cons: - Heard rumors about the reliability - Fewer features than the 3PKS If the rumors about the lower quality of the DX3R is true, then I will definitely go for the 3PKS cause reliability is my top priority. But if not, then I will get the DX3R. I would like your feedback on the matter. Thanks

RE: XRay NT1 vs Serpent 720 vs Mugen MTX4R vs Kyosho V-One RRR
Also, I would like to know what makes one car better compared to the other. I'm not really interested in 'fanboy' replies. I drive 1/8 scale buggies and I know that no car is perfect. Each car has its pro's and con's. So what I would like to know is how each of those cars differ in terms of handling, toughness, ease of maintenance, and running cost. I know I'm asking a lot but I just hoping that there's someone out there who might have the knowledge and expertise that I'm looking for and who would be willing to help me. Thanks

XRay NT1 vs Serpent 720 vs Mugen MTX4R vs Kyosho V-One RRR
Hi, I'm starting out in 1/10 scale racing and I need to get a new car. Which one would you recommend. What everybody else is running at the track is not an issue and everyone is starting out just like me. Local parts availability should also not interfere in the decision making as which ever car I choose, I will still have to import all my stuffs from abroad as I don't have any hobby shop in my country. But the car that I choose should have parts easily available online for ordering. I need something that is tough and easy to work with as I'm just starting out. I'm leaning slightly towards the NT1 as I see that Amainhobbies has all the parts available for ordering and it offers international shipping. Is it a good choice or should I look elsewhere? Also I would like to buy a model that will not be replaced in the near future cause if that happens, it will be even harder for me to find parts for it. So to summarize, I need a car with the following criteria in order of importance: 1- A pro-level car 2- A car for which I can easily get parts online (from a store that offers international shipping) 3- A tough car that can withstand some occasional mishaps due to my inexperience in the category 4- A car that is easy to work with, again due to my inexperience in the category I hope somebody can help me out on this. Thanks

We don't have any class and we also don't have any hobby shops around. We have to order everything on the net. So class and parts support is not an issue.

Here's my track, what should I get?
Hi, I'm just starting out in the hobby and I want to get a new vehicle. I'm trying to decide between: 1- A buggy (Hyper 7 PCR Pro or MP777- I know that they are not really in the same league as one is an old model and the other one is relatively new but I'm keeping the Hyper 7 as an option as I heard that its super tough and I'm thinking that because I'm new and that I'll probably crash, toughness is a very important thing for me), 2- A truggy (Hyper ST Pro again because I heard that its the toughest one out there) and 3- A REVO (It looks cool) Those are the only options that I have, so there's no need to suggest other models. I'm only deciding between those 4 vehicles. Also I might be using the chosen vehicle on tarmac occasionally. Considering the layout of my track, which one would you recommend? Thanks Pics of the track: [image]http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q301/Krishnen/Dscf5029.jpg[/image] [image]http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q301/Krishnen/Dscf5026.jpg[/image]

RE: race buggy
I made a small combo on Amain and I came up with a complete race setup for just $750. Here's my list: [ul] [*] Thunder Tiger EB4 S3 1/8 Off Road Buggy Kit - $299.99 [*] Axe Rossi Sport Off-Road Engine w/EFRA 2050 Tuned Pipe - $229.99 [*] Airtronics MX-3 FHSS 2.4 GHz Radio w/3 Channel Receiver - $149.99 [*] Hitec HS-985MG Ultra Torque HD Metal Gear Servo S/JR/Z - $69.99 [/ul] Total is $749.96 And if you are willing to toss a $100 more, you can have the Hyper 8.5 with the RB S5 engine which is what I would choose personally. It is about $300 more than a rtr but I believe it is a trouble-free setup. The D8 also seems to be a valid alternative but it has just been released and I believe you should wait till they discover its flaws before getting that buggy.

Are the McCoy Glow Plugs good?
Hello, I live in a tropical island in the Indian Ocean and the climate is rather warm with a high level of humidity. I'm thinking about ordering some glow plugs and I found that the McCoy plugs are very nicely priced. They are the McCoy MC8 Medium/Cold plugs. I will be running them on Rb S7 and RB C6BB mainly with 20% or sometimes 30% nitro (both with 18% lubricant). I would like to know if those plugs are appropriate for the engines and the island's weather conditions I mentioned above. Also I would like to have some general comments on the quality of McCoy plugs in general. Thanks

RE: Hyper 8.5 Pro v. Jammin Factory Team Edition
Both are great buggies, but I would go for the 8.5 because: 1. It's newer and has a newer design. 2. It's less likely to be replaced soon 3. Its cheaper. 4. Parts are cheap on ebay.

RE: Experienced mp77 owners
Hi, I also own the MP777 SP2 which I first updated with the WC upgrades and now I just added all the Racer's edge hop-ups that are available for this car plus a set of fioroni steering knuckles. I'd say that the upgrades that are available on the MP777 SP2 or WC are not necessarily the best u can get out there. I would have been better off getting the regular MP777 then buy the after market upgrades. I know that a lot of people will tell me that the SP2 or WC does not need any of those after market upgrades as the buggy is highly competitive out of the box, but I usually run on a very rough track and the stock car was simply not tough enough. The steering knuckles were the first thing I had to upgrade. The next thing that was going wrong in the car was that the chassis was getting a lot of flex as the track was not at all level and that destroyed 3 bevel gears. After I installed the Racer's Edge upgrades however, my car is now rock solid. As for the handling, I have to say that I am totally satisfied with it. I used to run a Hyper 7 PCR pro and the handling of the MP777 is much better. Although the Hyper was much stronger. I also own a Hyper 8 (not 8.5). I cannot compare the handling of the two buggies off-road as I only run the Hyper 8 on-road. I have it setup for rally-game. However when I was running the MP777 on-road, the Hyper 8 had better steering and was quicker around the track. The only upgrade I had on the Hyper 8 was the King Headz extended engine mounts. I bought this right after I got my Hyper 8 cause I had read in the forums that the Hyper 8 had chassis flex problems (I thing that issue has now been resolved with the 8.5) and I wanted to deal with that right from the start. I also got the proline body cause I did not like the original one. So far, I haven't broken anything on the buggy yet. To conclude, I'd say that u need not worry about the fact that u got the basic MP777 chassis cause u can always upgrade it with after-market parts and make it better than the SP2 or WC. I'd also recommend that u stay away from the cheap after-market upgrades such as dragon racing as these will make your buggy even worse. Stick with King Headz or Racer's Edge or K-Factory and even Fioroni if u have the cash. Finally, if I had to buy another buggy, I'd go for the Hyper 8.5 cause I have run both the Mp777 and the Hyper 8 and I cannot see why MP777 costs $150-$200 more than the Hyper 8.5. As I said I cannot comment on the handling off-road but for rally-game, the Hyper 8 handles better (and I believe that with the 8.5 big bore shocks, it should perform equally well, if not better, on off-road tracks), it is much stronger in stock configuration, costs a lot less and u get a lot more in the Hyper 8.5 package than with the MP777. I don't want to start a way over which buggy is better but I am just giving my views on these two buggies.

RE: Can I use McCoy MC-59 Glow Plug in a .21 buggy engine?
I live in a country where we don't get nitro fuel, so we make our own fuel and nitro is very rare. We never get more than 10% in our mixture. The climate is tropical. So what type of plug should I use in such conditions? Hot weather and low nitro.

Can I use McCoy MC-59 Glow Plug in a .21 buggy engine?
Hi, I use very little nitro content (<10%) and I was looking for a hot plug. The McCoy seems to be a good choice but the description says that its only meant for .12-.15 engines. Does that mean that I cannot use it in a .21 engine? Thanks

RE: What do you guys think
I've driven the original X1-CR (not the X1-x) and the original Hyper 8 (not the Hyper 8.5). The hyper 8 has better steering and is easier to handle. Now I don't know how the newer models will compare. But if had to chose between the two, I would definitely go for the Hyper cause its a newer model and not likely to get outdated soon. Plus another very important factor is the availability of parts for the Hyper models. Parts are abundant on ebay and u can order them from Hong Kong and get really cheap prices compared to what you would pay in UK. In fact, u can even order your car from ebay or AMainHobbies (both will ship to UK). It will be much cheaper than the price u quoted above.

RE: Hobao Hyper 8 brca edition
I believe that £339 roughly amounts to US$680. and with $680 on AMainHobbies, u can get: OFNA Hyper 8.5 Pro - $419.99 OFNA Picco .21B 3-Port Nitro Engine w/Pull-Start - $109.99 Futaba 3PM-FS Pro 3-Channel FM/HRS Synthesized 75MHz - $139.99 Add it all up, u get a better car with a better engine and with a much better radio for less - $670 Even if u have to pay the shipping from the states to UK, I still believe its a better deal.

RE: looking for a good engine???
I don't have one personally, but a very good friend of mine has one and I often run his car and I can say that its a very impressive engine. I have an RB S7 MSC and the mamba has more bottom end power and a little more top end. I also need to point out that his engine is the CEO modified mamba ($50 more - $249 on AMainHobbies). But for the price, even the original mamba is excellent value for money. The craftsmanship is very good although just a tab under that of the RB but way better than the other chinese or taiwanese engines.
