RE: Helicopter Canopy Defects
Thanks, I actually sent an email to them on monday I think and only today got a response. They want me to ship the canopy back to california but they did not say they would cover shipping. I know it costs about $10 for me to ship anything that size to california with minimal tracking so unless they will cover the shipping charges this just isn't worth it to me to send back. I can't take a 50% hit on a piece of fiberglass. I sent an email back asking if they will cover shipping. We'll see.

RE: Helicopter Canopy Defects
Here's a picture of it. The other side is completely smooth. This side shown looks like a wobbly mess. For the price I guess little defects like this might be expected but I know that most other places would consider this "b" stock.

Helicopter Canopy Defects
Hello, I recently purchased a few canopies from you all. One for my 450 heli and one for my 500 heli. The 450 canopy has no issues. Very nice molding and the paint job is quite nice. Great canopy for $12. The 500 canopy on the other hand is not as nice. I purchased this one: http://www.nitroplanes.com/exi-500-canopy-b-10.html I have not drilled out the mounting holes yet but I just slid it over the heli and have been looking at it for a few days and I've noticed that one side of it has a lot of creases and dings. It looks like they happened before the paint was applied as there is no stress signs in the paint. I realize it's just a $19 canopy but it is a little disappointing to have one whole side of it look pretty bad. I can probably get a picture of it. They are the kind of defects you only see when the light is coming off it the right way. The paint job does do a pretty good job of masking it.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
I'll get you that picture tomorrow. You want to mount it under the boom block with the top of the label towards the body of the heli. The bottom of the label towards the tail. Just set the gyro up like it is a futaba 401. Check out the videos on setting it up here: http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=41692 I didn't use anything for the canopy foam. Didn't catch that part in the manual. I've never used anything on any of my heli's before. Which pitch gauge did you get? This post describes how to use it pretty well: http://www.heliguy.com/Forum/how-to-use-a-pitch-gauge-t2312.html My RX is mounted on one of the sides. I find it's easier for me to get to the wires when I mount it like this. This also puts the 2.4ghz antenna's in a vertical orientation. Flat on the bottom also works where you're talking about. I included the best picture I could find of my receiver mount. You're blades should be tight enough that they do not flop around in the grips but not to tight that you can't move them. They should be just tight enough to hold in place but not so loose as to let the blades flop around. The tail blades should also be like this. You don't want them flopping but you don't want them to tight that they won't straighten when spinning. Hope that helps.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
Hello, 1. The servo mounting hardware was not included with my kits either. I've been told that the factory has been made aware of the missing mounting hardware and they are going to be including it in future kits. I mounted my servos with hardware I had sitting in my toolbox. I don't remember where I got them. On my PE kit I had to solve the issue as well. I picked up some M2x10 screws and M2 washers and nuts and secured the servos that way. I've included some pictures of that. Since I couldn't find lock washers at my LHS I had to use regular nuts so if you do as well make sure to thread lock them. 2. If you are talking about the boom braces that connect to the horizontal stabalizer then no I didn't have any washers for that either. Not a big deal there. 3. Yes the battery holder is that short.

RE: Copter X 450 Black Angel
BEC is a Battery Eliminator Circuit. Some speed controllers have built in BEC's that run the servos, receiver, gyro, etc... For many cheap speed controllers though the built in one is not good enough for helicopter usage and many people will install an external BEC. I could write a lot about it but this link will describe it better than I can :) http://www.dimensionengineering.com/BECFAQ.htm

RE: 35$ trex clone
Depending on where you live this one might be cheaper. http://www.snhobbies.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_38&products_id=460 It's $59 with shipping. The HK450 would have cost more than the heli to ship to my house. That made the flasher almost $8 cheaper than the HK and it has 1. G-10 frames - Much better than the aluminum frames 2. Metal swashplate, center hub, metal seesaw, and metal washout base 3. Main frame supports are plastic with metal inserts. All frame screws go metal to metal. The HK's are into plastic. 4. Includes the thrust bearing grip. This makes it not 100% compatible with an SA or S kit but V2 metal grips are cheap to come by now if you need to replace. I personally like the v2 design better. 5. Metal motor mount. 6. Comes with pretty decent fiberglass blades. Not to bad. Better than align woodies. Only thing to be aware with both helis is that they need to be torn down and rebuilt. The assembly by the factory leaves a bit to be desired. For both heli's I'd recommend picking up a parts bag just in case. My Flasher PE flies really well though. Very happy with it for the price. Shipping from canada to Virginia was about a week after the order was placed. Good service from them. The ICE Motor and MKS speed controller are really good for the heli as well. They have a package with them. You won't want to use the included 13 tooth on the ICE motor though. I'd target 11 or 12 tooth which you would have to buy separately. 13 tooth is way to high a head speed ~3k for plastic grips.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
So I got the new items installed tonight. First up was the new linkages. The V3 linkages are definitely different from the PRO linkages. Right away you can tell that they are not nearly as bulky as the pro linkages. The pro linkages also have an A on the side that goes away from the ball. These linkages simply have align etched in the side that go away from the balls. They are also different dimensions. The short links are a smidge longer than the ones in the pro kit and the long links are shorter than the ones in the pro kit. These linkages almost match the lengths given in the manual but not exactly. The long links are still a bit longer than recommended in the manual. Other than that they were a drop in replacement on my SE kit. I had only installed the short linkages. One turn on the pitch control link and all was the same as before. The tail hub upgrade was simple. Took maybe 5 minutes with picture taking. Just remove the old one and install. I've never flown with Chinese weights before so I'm really looking forward to seeing if I can feel a difference.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
Now that the Trex PRO is out there are a bunch of little upgrades for the V2 SE that are popping up so I decided to check and see if these worked on the Flasher. I've been spoiled a bit with my GAUI Hurricane and RCer Dragonus and have had the pleasure of dealing with lots of fixed linkages on the head that make setup an absolute breeze. The new Trex PRO is also using fixed linkages for the flybar->main grip and washout->flybar cage so I picked up a set of the linkages to try out. The first set I bought are the ones designed for the Trex PRO as no one had the other set. The set for the PRO has 2 long linkages and 4 short linkages. You only use the 2 long ones and 2 short ones. As you can see by the measurements in the pictures the short ones are about the right size while the longer ones are longer than recommended in the manual. I put these linkages on my PE kit. They seem to work quite well. Today I was at the hobby shop and they had a few sets of the V3 upgrade linkages as they call them. This bag only has 2 short and 2 long. I have read that the linkages in this kit are different sizes and are designed specifically as an upgrade to the V2 SE kit. I will compare the linkages tonight and will report back if they are indeed different. The second upgrade I got is the Trex Pro washout base. There is a little slop in the Flasher SE and PE versions of the washout base so this was a cheap $8 test. This was not a direct drop in on my Flasher. The flasher washout guide pins on my kit are apparently a little thicker than the ones that are on the Trex PRO. I filed the pins down a bit with my dremmel and cleaned them up with a jewelers file and it works great. If you have some slop in your washout base and would like a nice upgrade I think the PRO base works well. While I was at the LHS today I also spied the new PRO tail blade grips. These come with the integrated Chinese weights so I picked up a set for $20. I will report back when I have a chance to install them. Finally, I saw some CF main blades at helidirect for $18 and they got really good reviews so I just could not pass them up. These blades are really nice. Both blades are incredibly well matched with the weight being exactly the same at 17.6g. The CG on both is also identical. I've not had a chance to really fly them yet as I'm working on an electronic issue at the moment on my SE kit (a servo went bad and is causing my receiver to overload) but I can't wait to fly these. I got the new servo today so all this should be installed and ready for a test flight this week. The last pic is the heli with the blades on. http://www.helidirect.com/high-quality-325mm-symetrical-carbon-fiber-main-blade-trex-p-576.hdx

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
I use the AR6100 on my 450 size helis and most planes like my EDF Lynx and SE5a. I use the receivers with satellite recievers on my larger planes and helis. as far as connectors go... if I remember correctly the motor comes with both the male and female bullet connectors for the ESC. My ESC came separate and was not part of the "kit" so I don't know if it will come presoldered or not. Mine did not. I had to solder on the deans connector and bullet connectors. From looking at pictures from people that got the combo it looked like it came pre-soldered. Please let us know how your motor and speed controller come.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
The PE is a good kit. The ICE Motor and the MKS Speed controller are also good. I do recommend an external bec like a park bec or ccbec but there are people that have been successful with the built in one on the speed controller. Yes the MKS GY293 works with the DX7. I have this gyro and tested it. It seems to be a little better than a telebee. I highly recommend the G401B gyro. It's the one I used in the video and I don't think you can beat it for the price. http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-1403/xmhobbies-digital-gyro-G401B/Detail I recommend servos with a .10 speed or less. The Hyperion DS12GCP is my current favorite low budget tail servo. I highly recommend this servo with any gyro. The HS-65's are really good servos for the frame. You need to sand the mounts slightly so that there is no preasure on the case but that's really easy to do. Either battery will work fine. It really depends on what you're going for. If you are going for 3D I'd go with the 2200 but for more flight time the 2600 will work. An extra ounce is not that much if you're not doing 3D. I'd not go much over an 11 or 12 tooth on the included motor on the PE. I run a 13 tooth on my SE kit which is around 3k RPM. Thats way to much for a plastic kit.

RE: CLONE OF THE YEAR AWARDS
I'd vote for the Flasher 450SE. Excellent all metal heli for $135 shipped. Pics below. There is also the Flasher 450PE which has G-10 frames, metal swash, metal washout base, metal center hub, all metal frame supports using tubes thru the plastic, and utilizes SE V2 thrust bearings in the plastic main blade grips. Excellent heli for $60 shipped. I've bought both and really like them. I've compared the HK450 and Flasher 450 PE in person and the HK450 is not in the same class as the Flasher PE at all. Only thing I would probably upgrade on the Flasher PE is the washout base which is an $8 upgrade to the new trex 450 pro. The latest flasher pe washouts bases are a little sloppy on align main shafts.

SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
This is a build/review thread for the $135 SNHobbies Flasher 450 SE V2 found here: [link=http://www.snhobbies.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_38_id=461]SNHobbies Flasher 450 SE[/link] I saw the price on this kit and I just couldn't pass it up. Shipping was prompt and the heli made it's way to me in about 7 days from Canada. I purchased the kit with the ESC and Motor. The kit comes with a 13 tooth pinion which the manual recommends for 3D flight. The kit is marketed as a 100% T-Rex SE V2 parts compatible. After tearing it down and looking it over real well I'd have to say this is an accurate statement. The only part I've seen that's noticeably different from the align kit is the head button. I just took delivery of my second SE kit and thought I would do an unboxing video. I realized I had not doe that part justice in the initial review. I had to get a replacement kit because of an unfortunate crash with my first one. Seems that the earlier crash I had when a component failed in flight damaged the anti rotation bracket and it failed in flight pretty much destroying the head. Anyway here's the unboxing video: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvTJZX7h870[/youtube]

I'd also be really interested to see how they did the elevated tail linkages. A lot of engineering needed to do all they have there properly and they show no internal pictures. Interesting but unless you're up for a heck of a challenge I'd stay away

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
I do like the EVO packs. One of my EVO Lite 2100mAh packs has taken an amazing beating. A crash at 80MPH into the dirt in my EDF F-16 ending up almost 50 yards down the football field and it still goes strong. It still has the dirt under the shrink wrap to prove it heh. The plane actually hit at the 50 yard line that's how I know how far it went. Was pretty convenient [:D]. It's also been thru 2 heli crashes and just keeps pounding away. The video for this review was on that pack :) I really like those EVO packs. The ball links for the Flasher do have an A on them but they are reversed from the align links. They are a smidge longer than the align ones and they don't have the mark on the reverse as the align ones do. For the Flasher links the A should go towards the ball which is reverse from the Align links that have the A go away from the ball. Wanted to be clear about that :)

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
It does seem to be a near identical clone. The only part I've found to not work on it is the anodized tail bushing. The threading for the tail bushings don't match. Other than that I've not found one part that's not been identical that wasn't cosmetic. They are also doing some upgrades. Currently the latest Flasher SE kit is coming with the Pro style washout base which is a plus I think. Some might not like it since it no longer uses the inner copper bushing but it is the latest design. Hope you enjoy it.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
.05 MOD is the type of gear spacing that is used. In order to have a proper mesh between the pinion gear and the main gear they have to have the same gear spacing and gear design. There are different names for this and a common one is the MOD. In the align/flasher gear case it's .05MOD. So you need to have a pinion gear that is .05MOD so that they mesh properly. Most of the pinions at helidirect will be the correct type but I wanted to make sure you knew to look for the MOD in the description so you get the right one.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
You're going to want to use something like this: http://www.readyheli.com/K10149A_Align_24K_Connectors_p/k10149a-1.htm You should be able to get these bullet connectors at any hobby shop. 3mm or better for a 450. My motor and speed controller did not come with connectors either. I use [link=http://www.readyheli.com/Deans_Ultra_Pack_p/deansultra.htm]Deans[/link] for the batteries and the 3mm connectors for the motor leads. You can also directly solder the motor/speed controller leads. Just make sure you have the motor running the right way first :) Some people think that not using the connectors give's less resistance. I personally can't tell the difference but I bet the expert pilots can. No, pinions are not universal. I believe these are the pinions you would want to use on the kit. .05 mod. Readyheli also sells a 12 tooth but they are out of stock on that one right now. http://www.readyheli.com/Align_HZ020_Motor_Pinions_9t_10t_11t_2_3mm_p/hz020.htm I would start with the 11 tooth pinion for what you're looking for and see how you like it. I'd guess you're somewhere between the 11 tooth and the 12 tooth. See if the 11 feels right to you and if you want more power move up to the 12 tooth. That's what I would recommend. Lots of pinion options available here as well: http://www.helidirect.com/motor-pinions-450-class-pinions-c-1_78_513.hdx Make sure you buy a pinion set with the proper shaft diameter. 3.17mm is what the ICE motor has.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
You can get the manual here: http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=43239 The Align SE Version 2 PDF Manual High Rez (20 Megs) link. I believe you got the PE right? Just be aware that since the manual is for the SE they tell you to glue bearings in and stuff. You don't need to do that when metal -> plastic. Only when it's metal -> metal. I'd also recommend checking out Finless's videos. The first group are for the V1 trex but there is a lot of common parts between the v2 and it's worth watching. There's also a ton of other videos on how to properly setup the heli. http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=11373 This set of videos he talks about the differences of the v2. http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=29182 If you got the 3500kv motor then I would step down to an 11 tooth pinion I think. You could go with a 12 tooth as well and max your throttle at around 75% too. You don't want to put your throttle much lower than 75% otherwise it could damage the motor.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
I've not tried it but I've heard that the 3800kv ICE motor might be a better option for you. Probably do that one on an 11 or 12 tooth pinion. That motor is supposed to be better for 3d. For really hard 3d though I'd probably get the scorpion motor. http://www.readyheli.com/HK_2221_8_V2_Scorpion_Brushless_450_Motor_for_TREX_p/hk-2221-8.htm A lot of people have been raving about this motor. I've not had a chance to test it myself but it's supposed to rock. I have a scorpion motor in my Hurricane and I absolutely love it. I'd say try either of those 2 motors. The heli kit itself is a great start. I'd probably pair it with some Radix 325 carbons and either of the above motors and I think you'd be happy. Of course for rediculousness there is always the scorpion motor for 4 cells :)

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
The kit comes with a 13 tooth pinion. I was looking for between 3000 and 3200 rpm head speed and that's why I geared it as I did. I've heard that the motor runs really well on a 12 tooth (2800-3000 rpm). An 11 tooth would get you around 2500. What are you looking for the motor to do? Are you looking for extremely hard 3d like you see in videos by the pros or are you looking for sport flying where things are slower and smoother? I say this motor is excellent for someone that's learning to fly (using an 11 tooth pinion) and then as they get better and switch to mild sport flying (12 tooth) to finally more aggressive sport flying with a little 3D thrown in for good measure (13 tooth). I've not found any negatives with the motor at this time. Quite a nice motor and I'm very happy with it for the price and what I was looking for. Comparing to my review video I found the motor a lot harder to bog than that old dragonus motor and the head speed was a lot more consistent. I was using a Jeti Spin 33 speed controller with it on my heli. I do also have the MKS speed controller. I've not had a lot of experience with it yet. I have a lot more experience with the ICE motor. I've not heard any reports of any issues with the MKS speed controller. It has a pretty nice built in soft start that I've seen and it's preprogrammed out of the gate for heli's which is nice. I would probably recommend an external bec with this speed controller though if you are running spectrum and a 6100 receiver. I had what I think is a lock out when I tried to use the built in BEC that caused a pretty nasty crash. I had changed a lot of things on the heli though so it may not have been that. To many variables to determine the cause. I know that on my PE flasher I'll be using a ParkBEC with it. Not going to take the chance. hope that helps. The motor is very good. Wish I had some video to show of it.

RE: SNHobbies Flasher 450 V2 Build/Review ($135 Metal Heli)
I got to fly the SE Flasher on the ICE 3500kv motor today on a 13 tooth pinion. I run a 90-100-90 throttle curve. Performance was amazing compared to the motor I used in the review video. I was able to bog the motor but I was really pushing it hard. I'd definitely say the motor is good for sport or mild 3D fliers. Amazing value for the price.
