RE: My first build.
Yeah not too sure about this no drinking whilst building or flying rules. Sounds pretty restrictive to me. Best not let the Bora Ridge guys hear about that. [&:][8|][X(] [;)] Yes, the glaring mistake was putting the servos in the top of the wing. The section is very symetrical, though not exact or Id just flip it over, and I just did not notice as I was cutting and gluing etc. On advice from a few mates I didnt intend following the plans method of internal servo installation, instead using an easier vertical mounting. As a result of me changing this part and my inexperience I didnt do the servo mounts until after the wing top and bottom LE had been sheeted, thus making any visual clues it was wrong, harder to pick up. All of the above combined with a relaxing afternoon/evening with my parents involving consumption of wine and an "over eager to use glue and knife", type inexperienced builder ends up with experimental (accidental) aircraft design. Now the story Im telling at my flying field is, "Im putting a set of floats on this model and flying it off salt water, so Im getting the servos out of the water by putting them on top. Its an intentional design mod." It will help when I do put the floats on, which I do have, waiting to be made. It will also help keep them a bit cleaner as my local club field can suffer drainage issues in places, making unintentional forays into wet muddy ground all the more likely. So Im not going to change them now.

My first build.
Hi all, This is my first time building anything in about 20yrs, last time it was a kit of 2ch glider and I was 15. This is an "Easy 3D", a free plan with RCM&E magazine, March edition. Im not going to go into huge detail of the mistakes Ive made along the way, I look at them as lessons along the way. Like dont drink alcohol and attempt to build concurrently. The result of that combination is clearly visible in my pic. Anyway to cut a long story short, Ive got it to intial assembly stage, everything lines up nicely. Ive got sheeting the top and bottom of the fuselage, covering, installing radio gear and engine to do. Im interested to see who pics up on my obvious mistake (following conventional methods) Im sure lots, if not all, of you will. Im also interested to hear if you would fix it ? I dont see it being a major problem other than the rib digging and laughter aimed at me Im sure to recieve from fellow clubmates, even though now they're saying dont worry about it. Andrew

RE: YS 63 FZ Quits at over 1/2 throttle - HELP please
The regulator is your problem. I cant remember which way it goes on now, but reverse the way you have it. I had exactly the same issues with my 63FZ. Ive seen the light now and dont own a YS. They're awesome when they run properly, but as my mate kept saying when I had problems, "YS means Why Suffer ? "

Ive been busy with other models etc etc, thanks for the reply. Ive spun the motor with a starter with the plug grounded against the engine and got what Id call a weak spark. Next step is connect up a switch and fuel tank and see if itll run. Lancair

RE: Help ID this engine please ?
OK, I needed to be more clear in my request. The engine does not have any wiring other than the lead from ? magneto ? the spark plug. This lead is sheathed in a wire mesh sleave. The last 2 inches of the plug lead has a type of aluminum foil wrapped around it. There is a wire that is tech screwed into a cooling fin adjacent to the plug, that runs to and winds around the plug lead. If you look closely at the above picture you can see all that is there. With the plug out of the engine and held against the fins, I get NO spark what so ever and Ive worn my arm out trying to spin the prop faster. I should get spark when I do this ? ? Yes On the ? magneto ? (I dont know what its called for sure) there are two blade type connectors but nothing connected. What if anything goes here ? Cheers for your help guys.

Excellant. Thanks for the replies. Now can someone tell me or point me in the right direction to learn more about the engine. In particular the carby and ignition system ? or in other words, " how the heck do I make it go now" Thanks

Help ID this engine please ?
Hiya all, I know very little about spark ignition engines and need some help with this one. I picked it up from a friend for next to nothing. He bought it from a retired old gent who was giving up RC flying due to failing health. According to the original owner the engine is a Ryobi, US made version and converted in the USA for RC use. The only identifying marks are "phelon" stamped in the flywheel and "Walbro" on the carby. A quick search turned up Phelon as makers of flywheels and ignition systems. If someone can help out it would be much appreciated.

RE: Sig Wonder
I flew my Sig Wonder for the first time today. I bought the wing and fuselage almost ready to cover from a club member for $40. It has an OS15 with a 7x4 prop(i think) up front, a motor I bought when I was teenager (approx 20yrs ago) and never really used, it has no markings other than MAX OS 15. It has a curved lip on the piston, which my LHS guy said made it an old one. I had been waiting for weeks for the right conditions, or so I thought, I wanted a nice steady breeze to make launching and landing easier. What a pussycat, once trimmed the Wonder was easy to throw around and not at all what I call stupid fast, which is what I had sort of expected. I guess Ill have to build another and put a 25 up front to get it faster.

I may well be wrong, but I dont believe its possible. Re assigning switches etc is done in System setup under Device Select. EDIT: I am wrong. It is possible to create a mix using the trainer switch as master and the other channel as slave, but thats about as far as I can help. You need to experiment.

RE: YT International ADRENALINE
Chris, pretty much everything except maybe a control horn or two is re-useable, unlike your tragic mishap. The Adrenalin with the OS140 was awesome, so Im considering another, I know I said earlier I would never buy another ESM made model but its so cheap.

RE: YT International ADRENALINE
Ive been thinking more about the crash flight and what Id done prior to the incident. I took off and held a 45 degree upline for about 100m then pulled vertical and went to full power, flicked high rate aileron and rolled about 6 times climbing straight up. Stopping the roll I pushed forward quite hard to level flight and went immediately back to under half throttle as I pushed over. A long gentle decending left turn was started and about half way around, the model dived over hard into a tight outside loop, from that point on I had no control other than to shut down the engine. Inspecting the damage/carnage we saw the very ever so slight cut marks in the balsa sheeting on one half of the stab, the right half. The left fixed half wasnt recovered. The left elevator servo has a major gear strip and the control horn broke off leaving part in the ball link and part on the stab. The servo gear is stripped as though the elevator was pushed up hard whilst it was in a down position, suggesting to me that maybe it stripped in my hard push at the top of my spiral climb. A bit of history on these servos, the are JR 3421SA (nylon gear set) that I bought from central hobbies. One was stripped in a domestic accident and the metal gear set to suit the 3401 and a range of others inc the 3421 is all I can find in Australia. The servo that stripped today is the other nylon gear equipped version, the metal geared servo survived the right stab assembly flapping in the slipstream as the model speared in. The hard push at the top also stressed the stab itself, as I pulled backstick through the left turn the stab broke, moving up and pulling the elevator down as it is attached to the servo from underneath, (should of done the dual link as instructions show) causing the rapid outside loop. Anyway enough already. . . . When is this "Storm" going to be available. I cannot believe Ive been told (by wife) it's OK for me to get another plane to replace the Adrenalin.

RE: YT International ADRENALINE
Well another one bites the dust. Well mine bit a cow paddock at great speed. Second flight, going great, power was awesome. Vertical till its outa sight if ya wanted. Model was in a gentle left turn back towards the field when without my influence it pushed over into a very tight outside loop then proceeded to have a mind of it own until colliding with earth. One half of the horitzontal stab seperated. Part cause was my accidental cutting very slightly too deep whilst cutting the film off to glue in the stab, ever so slight an impression in the balsa, but thats where it failed. Im not so 100% sure thats why it failed ? Seems to me there was some very light balsa used in making the stab, only hard balsa in the leading edge, the rest seems soft. Theres also substantial failure of the framing around the stab area of the fin. Now debating what to use my OS140Rx in now.

RE: YT International ADRENALINE
Well at long last my Adrenalin is almost ready to fly. I need to re-check my control throws and run the engine a few times to make sure its right. Chris B Chips, Im wondering how the heck did you get yours to be so light ? Mine weighs in at 4535gr with the OS140RX and Hyde aria mount, everything else I used is standard. Maybe yours was missing a main spar [X(] to be so light with a YS140L on it. Only joking, sorry for your loss mate. Its gotta be worse than a simple crash when the whole lot is gone for good. Vortec, what do you have you CG at now ? Mine came out at around the 145 - 150mm. I might move my battery forward for the first flights. The OS being a pumped engine I have my fuel tank set-up so the centre of the tank is approx on the CG. Id post some pics but by now we all know what an Adrenalin looks like and mine doesnt look any different. Im NOT using my JR decals on this plane yet, I put BIG expensive ones on my last plane and it lasted 5 flights, what a waste.

RE: YT International ADRENALINE
Chris, thats not good news at all. [X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][&:][:@][:(][:@][:(][:@][:(][:'(][:o][:-][&o] [8|] BUGGER. Meanwhile I might just throw my adrenalin in the river. I havent flown it yet but its about as crooked as a dogs hind leg. My Arresti III, also "made" by ESM (not designed by) was crooked and now this is worse. I wont ever buy another ESM made model. Sure they're cheap, there's a reason. EDIT: I say cheap because in Australia I paid $279AUD for mine. (about 116GBP) Im sure the design is fantastic and built straight would be fantastic. Now Im going through the motions to put mine together, I'll fly it because I cant afford anything else new, (I just bought a hotliner too) but Im not expecting precision. Hopefully it'll fly straight enough to compete in sportsman. Im going to blame Adam, or should it be Travis, for making us all get one of these.

RE: YT International ADRENALINE
Ive got a question for everyone whos built an Adrenalin. The rudder hinges, did you really just use two hinges on the top half only, as per the instructions and as supplied ? To me thats putting ALL the force from the rudder on the top, built up half, of the fin only, not good IMHO. They supply 4 inges per side for aileron, 3 per side for Elevator and only 2 for approx the same length rudder.

RE: YT International ADRENALINE
Whats the conclusion re the thrust offset ? Vortec has suggested to me that he felt it needed more right thrust, elsewhere I read the the down is maybe not so needed ? I have an OS140 with a Hyde mount Im planning on using in my Adrenalin. The hyde mount isnt the easiest to block up to get the offset thrust, so need to get it right the first time.

RE: OS140 Troubles
The wing deal didnt eventuate, someone doesnt know who told who or whatever ? No deal at that price anyway. Still evaluating options but its not looking good, no finance available right now for a start. Can anyone tell me if its possible to run the OS140 on any other sort of pipe/muffler so it doesnt have to be installed in a model with a huge long pipe tunnel ? I dont really want to sell the engine and would like to use it in something else unitl I can afford a pattern plane again.

RE: CMPRO LEO 110
Actually the damage was limited to the fuselage sides where the wings were pushed backwards, and the left wing in a few pieces. Replacement wings arent possible for a reasonble cost and Im no builder, so to build a new wing is out of my league. Serious lack of suitably priced 2M planes in Australia so Im looking at other options. No finace at the moment so just looking and dreaming. Unfortunately I wont be at the PRAMS comp.

RE: Sticky Tx Antenna
Fiery, I made lots of enquiries into this for Australia and had no luck finding any readily available for JR radios. Multiplex make them for use with their Tx's though. I did find out that someone in Oz had one made by the guy that owns Canterbury Sailplanes in NZ. So it can be done. I was going to ask the company that tested my Tx a few months ago but he was busy and couldnt talk to me when I dropped my Tx in and when I picked it up he was out on a service call.
