RE: Chainsaw Powered Car STAGE II
Is tomorrow now?[:)] You know what?I have got a weedwhacker motor and a 7 inch angle grinder from where i work now,i am working on the excact same thing as you describes here now!I join these two together.I feel very sorry for you dont have a lathe, this couldnt have been done if i didnt had one.I dont write this to "show off",you know what i mean, but it was a bit funny as i am working on it right now.No one deserve a lathe more than you do! I took the axle from the angle grinder motor, cut it off where the windings begins, machined it down to 12 mm as the output shaft from the clutch is,and going to use a coupler with some set screws to join these two together

RE: Body question...
The wheelbase is NOT the distance,190/200 mm is the total width, and the wheelbase is typically between 250 and 260 mm

Yep,just as the previous one;charcoal coloured.Pretty happy with the result, the pipe fits perfect with the body[8D]Now the filter clears the downpipe too.

Thank you Ken! Here are a couple of pics from the new downpipe,i think i am going to paint it as the old downpipe was.It is shiny and pretty now,but it will soon get more brownish and eventually turn green, that is not so nice[:D]I am using high temp paint for wood stoves.Have to make a new mount for it too[8D]

RE: My Marder onroad
As the filter has moved a bit more to the rear now,the prefilter and filter was touching the downpipe,so i have to rearrange it a bit.Went to the plummer today and bought a 45 dgr. elbow and 4 inches of pipe so now i am in the process of making a new one.Pics to follow soon!

Well,it was close to a nightmare to get the prefilter on and off of the airfilter,so i decided to make a new mount and ended up making a whole v-stack in my lathe[:)]Found a perfect circular lump of aluminium in my magig box, haha.By loosening the unbrakobolts on the sides, the modified filterholder slides off.

Or(in my opinion):look way too bad.Why double the weight of something that can be half as much and have the same efficiance, and even more?Thank god it exists carbon fibre parts for Baja, its really needed when using this pipe to save some weight
ORIGINAL: splcrazy i always knew helical gears to work extremely well in diffs , but as spur gears ive always had doubts, and the fact that these helical spur gears are constructed like a ring weakens the whole system down, if it was a full solid construction instead of ring design it never would have broken in half like this , it would have just smashed a few teeth but thats about it. if i get the FG MT elcon drive train i will use the normal gears or just replace them to all steel , but even steel or hardened steel doesnt last that long either , ive mashed hardned steel gears in my 5b using bullet proof clutch carrier's so there you go
I always think to myself there must be some reason for why the rally and high performance cars are using straight cut gears! The gearboxes are a lot more stronger than helical cut gears which is used in regular cars.
