RE: -Official Traxxas JATO Thread-
Have you been cleaning your air filter regularly. I clean it after every outing. I would suspect that if you had sand in the engine then the crank pin, connecting rod, wrist pin, and crank bearings wont be far behind. I would flush that motor really well with alcohol or equivalent before you run it. Just my .02 worth. N.

Your "Smoke" needle is too rich. That leads me to an idea. Has anyone that you heard of run a smoke tank on an RC car like we do in airplanes? I think that would look bad arse running down the road!!

RE: -Official Traxxas JATO Thread-
Well I spent about 2 hours last night engineering a fix. Melted the plastic together with a soldering knife. Then I wrapped it in fiberglass and epoxy and let it cure. IT WAS an awesome fix. I ran it on the street this morning. Then I decided to try the new tires in the yard. WOW! What a difference. The car actually moves rather than sitting there laughing at you. It moves so well that it got attracted to my landscaping bricks head on. I guess it was Christmas love or something. Anyway, it broke again in the same spot and in another spot on the same arm. I guess I need to put a govenor on the daam throttle, or how about some shock treatment when it gets too fast. Another thing that ticks me off is the darned hobby shop. He is a Traxxas dealer right. I told him I wanted a rechargable RX pack. He threw one in the bag. I get home, charge it overnight and go to put it in and it doesnt fit. NOT EVEN CLOSE!!. It is a 3 and 2. I think I need a flat 5, or a 4 and 1. At least the rims he sold me fit!! Anyway, I will probably buy the stock A arm and then get the RPM replacements. From what I am reading if you use the RPM's, then the front sway bar goes bye-bye. Is this true. If so what changes will I see with out it. Anything noticeable to me. Should I do anything to compensate for its loss? Maybe that swaybar is actually a curb/brick magnet and I should have 86'd it along time ago. Having lost of fun working on it though. Merry Christmas to everyone. Hope you got lots of goodies. N

Just my luck!! I went to the hobby shop today to get some tires, rims, and a RX battery pack per ya'll reccomendations!! All is well. I figure I would go ahead and get this stuff so I can play since the hobby shops will be closed for two days. Of course I had to organize my garage first. After three hours of organizing I sit down to fiddle with the car. And CRAPOLA!!! My right front lower control arm is busted!!!!!!! I was screwing around yesterday and kissed a curb in the parking lot in a glancing blow. Misjudgement on depth perception. Not the cars fault, total driver error! I drove around for a good hour after that with no mishaps. Wondering why I kept having to trim the steering servo both ways. I attributed it to the slanting concrete. Well now of course ALL the hobby shops are closed for TWO days!!!! I WANT MY MOMMY (I'm 32)!!!!!!!!!! Anyboby local to the Denton, TX area with a spare. It is a longshot but I'll ask anyway!! N.

Will the 2.2 rims fit right on or is their a conversion kit that I will need? What rims do you suggest. Looks are second to functionality and price!! Also what is 2.2. I assume it is a measurement of some kind. Is it rim/tire width, diameter, or height? Thanks again!! N

RE: -Official Traxxas JATO Thread-
Hey all, Totally new to this spectrum of RC. I have been into airplanes (RC and Full Scale)for some time, worked on real airplanes for awhile, and now I am a maintenence instructor. Anyway, I went out and finally purchased a Jato 3.3. Always wanted a nitro truck and finally boned up and got permission and bought it. Got it broken in today. Started to lean it out and that sucker flat sh*ts and gits!!! I know nothing about the car side of the house, but I have lots of rc experience. A few questions I have..... The whole radio setup seems kind of cheap to me. I think I can live with it for awhile, but the steering servo I think needs to be changed. What servo is recommended that is relatively inexpensive and/or linkage should be changed? 2. The tires are NOT good for anything but pavement, as I'm sure all of you know. I need a tip on what tire to buy for grass/dirt. Again I have no clue. I look forward to talking with everyone here that I can. Dont laugh at me for asking stupid questions. If ya got any airplane questions (real ones) I can help answer them. By the way does anyone know what JATO stands for (This is a quiz question)! Nik

Yea Williams couldn't get their Sh*t together. Pratt got the deal. I was offered a job with Eclipse but turned it down due to being a contract job and the uncertainty of the industry. I believe that the biggest funder of the company is Bill Gates!! That is what the HR guy told me anyway!! FLYBOY! You a very lucky man! Glad to hear you are doing well! I think it will do well! I know the launch customer with Eclipse. They bought like 240 of them or something rediculous like that. They are goint to start a company called "Dayjet" where they sell a seat on an aircraft and not a share. Curious to see if it works. I'm wondering if my company will step into this market. Probably going to hold off until they see what happens, then we can capitalize on their mistakes. Cheap R&D! Kind of what we did on the Lear 45!!

LOL!!!!! You could roll a 172 360 degrees and not enter a spin if you had enough airspeed and held 1g and were crazy!! I think you have to do a 60 deg roll for flight training. not 100% but I know I have in a 172 before.

The position he is in right now is similar to what you want to do on a wheel landing. He didn't crash. Kirby Chambliss does this in a Pitts. I'll see if I cant find the pic.

RE: B52 without ailerons?
Not sure what you mean or where you are headed on this one Hal This is quoted out of a lab book I had in A&P school published by American Airlines concerning the 747. "Lateral control is accomplished by using the inboard and outboard ailerons and flight spoliers. At low speeds, with flaps extended, both inboard and outboard ailerons, as well as flight spoilers are utilized. As flaps are retracted above position one, the outboard ailerons are electrically locked out."

It is definately a Modified Pitts S1. I can tell it is modified due to the squared off wing tips. His wing tip I bet is less than a foot off the ground. Any of you that have flown Pitts know that this pilot is sucking some seat cushion right now!!! Sweet shot!!

RE: This is what happens when....
I think it might of been one of our CRJ's. We were actually just talking about it last week. It was 12 screws left out of the horizontal leading edge if my memory serves me right. I do have to agree with DeltaMech though. I see some pilots intentionally right up stuff that is not in the MEL so it has to be worked. And wouldn't you know it their duty time expires in 4 hours!!! Stuff like aft maintenance bay light inop. The best one was "wing root leading edge missing chaffe tape". I mean c'mon now, the plane aint going down due to an inop light in the hell hole!!! Not in the MEL, GROUNDED!!! I get the occasional customer that will slip me a $20 or take me out to lunch if I drag my feet and help him miss a flight because they want to play golf in Dallas, or catch a race, or a Cowboys game. We call it "P.U.S.S." syndrome. Or Pilot Under Sudden Sickness. Sickness could be physical, but mostly mental. We had one pilot ask us to delay him cause his cat died and he was mourning his loss!!!! I would cut off my testicles to fly some of this equipment they are using in the GA arena. Smokes the airlines. I took an american pilot down to the shop and he said it is far more advanced then even the 777. He was blown away! What a shame some people take things for granted. We all chose our professions to an extent. Mechanics complain cuz we keep em flying and get payed about 1/3 of a captain. Pilots complain cuz they cant go home if the mechanic screws up! Pilots and mechanics both screw up. We dont want to but it happens. There is so much pressure on the mechanic this day and age due to the reduced workforce and cutbacks. You will always have a co-pilot next to you and an engineer if req. But the mechanics are very overworked which leads to undue stress which leads to forgetfulness sometimes. Sorry it is the truth!!
ORIGINAL: deltatech Hey bruce88123! Earth ground hahahahahaha!!!! I got a good laugh about that! Delta buys only Boeing so I have very little Air bus experiance but that M.M. referance cracks me up.
Delta only buys Boeing??? Deltatech you need to take a look back in Delta's history. They had/have lots of Mcdonnell Douglas products, which I know is now Boeing. But still a Douglas design. And wait, what about the Lockheed line? By far the best airplane other than a 727 made was the L-1011. Delta had quite a few of these if I remember correctly. Both those airplanes pretty much made what we know today as commercial aviation. JetMech:---You saved me a lot of typing. Amen to your response. I'm not too familiar with the Airbus setup but I can assume it is a Messier Dowty setup. We have a similar system on Challengers and Global Express's. Lear's have the mechanical centering pin/cam set-up. NWS is disengaged via the main squats on earlier models, and the 40 series have a cam rod on the nose gear. When compressed NWS is biased in based on speed generated off of wheel speed detect (anti-skid) and airdata computers. Dont think it comes on until 90kts or lower. Slowly increases as speed decreases. Dont quote me on the numbers. People: This was a failure of some sort. Crap happens sometimes. It might be a poor design, we just don't know yet. Everything is fine until something fails and then the flames start, particularly on the manufacturers! We cant make things better if they dont fail. I'm not talking about improper maintenance, etc.... This just sounds like it needs another redundant system to back it up. The pilot did a hell of a job and props to him. This is not Airbus' fault. This sounds like a vendor issue to me. So lets flame the landing gear company!!

That is why you by "mod wrenches" from harbour freight. I have wrenches from there that are heated, bent, welded, etc just to make something fit. That is a snap-on selling point!!! Sounds like they got you too!!!!! I can mod a three dollar wrench that will work just as good and not have to worry about losing a $30 wrench!!!!! To each is his own!!

RE: Any advice, tips, encouragement would be appreciated!
DONT get caught in the "Snap-on rut". Once you get your first job, dont feel like you have to by the truck. Go to Sears and get what you can get by with. Once you get a couple of paychecks, buy what you need. Never buy what you want, or you will be working for your toolbox and snap on. Good thing about Sears is they are open everyday and you can return any Craftsman hand tool for any reason. I return screwdrivers because they have paint on them. Snap on gives you a hard time when you warranty a tool and dont walk off the truck with something new. Now I own some snap on tools. They make some things that Sears doesn't and somethings are better than others, like dikes and ratcheting screwdrivers. They are far superior. I have a guy that works for me and has a huge snap on box and it is full. He wonders why he is 40K in the hole. I'm telling you implant this in your head and stick with it. It isn't worth it. I rarely use anything bigger that 1/4" drive. Aviation Maintenance is a passion thing. Dont do it just because it sounds cool and there might be money in it. You will lose interest quick. It is something you have to love to get up eeryday and WANT to do. Sure there will be bad days, I have them and all A&P's have and will. Some days things just dont roll in your favor. Dont let it discourage you. I'm what I like to call "inside the fence" and I dont take it for granted. I remember as a kid hanging on the airport fence watching airplanes with my dad envisioning what I could do "on the inside". Every once in a while I will see a Father and Son hanging on the fence and reminisce. I have been known to walk over and bring them in the hangar to show them around. Makes there day!! Getting harder to do that with the security. NL

RE: My latest Project
Just put the wings on yesterday! Ended up having to recover the entire fuse. Too much damage for us to do a local tail repair. Owner added a few extras when uncovered. Shame he didn't go ahead and do the wings. O'well, hopefully he will like our work and bring it back for the wings at a later time. Finished up the strobe install today and have some flap and aileron rigging to complete. Should fly next week hopefully. The wings are just about finished for the Waco RBA (biplane in previous pics) and the engine is almost completed up in Oklahoma. We still have some frame repairs to complete and woodwork to finish. We had all new landing gear made and converted to modern cleavland wheels and brakes so as to prevent it from going on its back again. We hope this will go to Oshkosh and win Grand champ in the future. As we pour our hearts and souls into this I will post some pics. Still lots of work to do!! Our shiny 170 has returned for some more work. Owner is adding some items and we are going to polish the entire airplane again, paint on the original factory stripes and N#'s, and paint the bottom of the wings silver to alleviate polishing overhead which is a bear!! We will dive into this one heavy when the Super cub departs!! \ Keep the graesy side down! Nik
