RE: Topflite Giant P-47D
I use 70 degrees of flap with some down elevator mixed in to prevent stalls. Works well. It needs a lot of power to fly with these settings, about 50 percent.

RE: Topflite Giant P-47D
A friend's plane with a Spectrum went down from 2oo feet this weekend. He's a 3-D pilot so it wasn't pilot error. Another guy I know has to re-bind his Spectrum receiver every flight. He also had to send the transmitter in almost immediately after purchase because it wouldn't bind. I know a lot of people have had zero issues with their Spectrums, but the frequency of failures I have seen personally concerns me a lot.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
My air leak was caused by the airline getting pinched when the main gears was attached. There is little or no clearance for the tubing at the rear of the mains. I cured it by using a moto-tool and a ball-end mill fitting to open up a small hole so the tubing could make a gradual turn. Hope this helps.

RE: Top Flite AT-6 Texan Gold Flight ARF
This is from a RCU post. The guy's name is Tom Treese. The item costs $36. "Send me an email to: tmtreese@msn.com. They are $36.00 including shipping and I can bill your PayPal account or you can send a money order." I have a set in a TF Mustang. Works as advertised, but close to a set of Robart mechanicals in price. Lifer.

RE: Ignition Module failure
The cap is okay so I think it was the coil. In any case, the old module has found a new home in the circular filing cabinet. Thanks to all!

RE: Ignition Module failure
Thanks to all that replied. As I said, the old unit was replaced and the new one works fine. I think that for most modelers the check for an ignition unit is limited to verifying a spark. Once that is evident, I don't know where else one could go. I spent a 3 trips to the field with no flying because of this issue and it seems that the old module was slowly dying. Very frustrating. Again, thanks to all.

RE: Ignition Module failure
Thanks for the replies, but I still have the same question: How can it produce a spark but not allow the engine to fire? I replaced the old unit with a new one and it fired right up. Again, does anyone know how the old one can spark, but not support the engine to run?

Ignition Module failure
I have a question for those familiar with ignition modules: I have been trying to get a small gas engine running but have had no luck. Checked for spark and one was there so I have been chasing carb issues as the likely culprit. After about 4 trips to the field with no success, I finally swapped out the module and it started on the first flip. So, my question is this; How can the module throw a spark but not allow the engine to start? During the process, I even tried an electric starter to check it with a fast spin rather than a hand-flip. No luck. Bye the way, the module has been used sucessfully for the first 3 hours of operation prior to this issue. What could occur internally that would allow for a spark but not allow it to run? For those who can offer an explanation, thank you in advance!

Sounds like the same problems I had with my 20cc. Check for airleaks where the crankcase splits.

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
My first P-40 was a Cox control-line plane about 1968, or so. Current P-40's are both Top Flite ARF's. The smaller one has the engine out and has been in the hands of a guy in Illinois for 4 months claiming it cannot be fixed. The bigger one remains a "Hangar Queen" til the weather cools down a bit around here. I don't mind a little roll couple from the rudder. I have lost ailerons on a plane or two and it's good to know I can still get it home. Sign me up, too! I think I can afford the membership dues!

Swastikas are much older than that. They were a symbol of good luck until the Nazi's used them as a symbol to bolster the spirit of the German people climbing out of a depression. Of course, now they carry a permanent stigma as a sign of deep evil.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
jet22b, J-Tec sells a "compact" pitts muffler for the DLE 20. Is that the one you have or the standard? You might avoid a lot of cowl-cutting by using the compact version. Your project looks great, in any case!

RE: Redundant RX packs are they overkill?
David, The other side of the pro argument is simply monetary: A Smart-Fly battery backer and a second battery costs me about $50. Cheap insurance in my opinion.... Happy landings to all.
