Nice work! I've been delayed by our nice weather. I'll make sure to post progress pics as I make notable progress.

RE: WACO YMF
ORIGINAL: aminiet If any one is interested, there is a Pica 1/5 scale YMF WACO on E BAY. It looks in excellent condition, it has 5 more days to go. There is also a Great Planes with engine for $900.00
Also a 1/4 scale with ZDZ 80 in Canada in Canada on another forum site. PM me for link if anybody interested, I'm assuming RCU doesn't want me to post links from other sites. $1600 RTF, or $1200 for airframe only. I don't see what make it is.

RE: Bud Nosen 1/4 Cub build?
Progress has been slow with the nice weather, but I'm still trying! Flaps and ailerons for right wing approximately 3/4 done. A little more sanding and top sheeting, then mounting the horns, hinges and on to the left wing flaps and ailerons. Mount the servos, run wires, bottom cap spars, wing tips then struts and wings are done (I think)!

I'm looking for a good A123 charger as my buddys Venom Pro seems to not want to do the job but also curious if there are any that will do 8-10S Lipo as well. Thanks

RE: WACO YMF
ORIGINAL: skylarkmk1 Don't forget it is summer time, people have other things going on, kids home from school, family trips, BBQ, float trips and lots of other stuff happening. Yes it is flying season and we are getting reports of some maiden flights and such but most can only fly on weekends due to their jobs. It will pick up during the build season when things settle down again.
+1! In 30-35 years I may be retired and get to build all day :p. Plus this summer has been really nice and since it's so short compared to you guys we need to make the most of it! So might as well enjoy it instead of 'wasting' it building inside the shop. Unfortunately it means the Waco build will be delayed a little longer.

RE: raptor 50 v2 problems
I see this is an old thread, but the pin backing out of the tail pulley can cause the rattle/clicking noise similar to the belt.

RE: Crashed and Don't know why
ORIGINAL: baron56 OK guys, Sorry i have been away for awhile, Had this thing called heart attack and triple bypass, such an bother, doing fine though, I found the root of crash on the raptor, it was a faulty switch harness, the switch itself was soft, in that it did not have positive on/off locking indent, so ergo I got smacked. Thanks for all your input, I hope this will help others avoid disaster. look for my new problem under title TAIL SPIN.
I prefer to run dual batteries/switches in my aircraft that are either helicopters .30 or larger, or any plane larger than .40 size. My Raptor 50 was on single battery, but I'm now rebuilding it after a tail rotor servo failure and will be setting it up with dual batteries and switches. Glad to hear you're doing better!

RE: Newbie seeks blade advice for a Raptor 50
I almost second that. Wood blades don't track very well, but may be the best choice if you are still learning to hover and even first transition to forward flight. Metal components and carbon blades can add up pretty quick learning to hover/fly. I'm hoping you have someone helping you, or at least have mastered the flight sim before trying to hover the real thing?

RE: KLONE METAL HEADcomments please
Your link doesn't work, but I would be comfortable with any metal head, really. Whats your experience? If you're just starting out I would stick with plastic grips for now. Metal flies way better, but gets very $$$ quick when you crash.

RE: Raptor 50 servos - Align DS610?
Update: Well, I ordered the 610s and a 650 two days ago. I also received my JR 921 so I'll be switching it over to my JR 9303 when they arrive. The reason I ordered them was because my S9254 went wacky on me just as I was stopping to come in for a landing two weekends ago. I couldn't get an auto setup in time. Don't think it would have mattered as the servo didn't die, it just went crazy. Good thing it did die, as the t/r servo is the only thing I wasn't going to replace! I found that the pin in the tail pulley started coming out, so I'm thinking that was causing some vibration and overworked the servo. Or, it was just its' time...

RE: Bud Nosen 1/4 Cub build?
Wow, almost a month since my last update! Well, progress has been slow with warm weather, house and vehicle work, family visiting, etc., etc. I've mostly just brought the left wing up to par with the right and have done as much sheeting as I can for now until I glue in the wing tubes. Once the leading edge is mostly smooth I will then build the flaps and ailerons, decide how to mount the servos, then build the struts. After that its just light work on the fuselage, mounting radio equipment, tail linkages, fuelproof firewall etc., then should be ready for covering and paint! Thankfully tug duty isn't required anytime soon, so I'm not letting my friend down! Edit: Oh, I still need to build the wingtips, too!

I prefer to have the throttle match or lead the collective

RE: Raptor 50 servos - Align DS610?
GY401 with S9254 I think? I agree that's overkill for the throttle, but I want something just as fast, or very slightly faster to keep up with the collective. I was debating throwing something like the DS420 in there, but I'm not sure how well that would work. Cheers.

Raptor 50 servos - Align DS610?
So I just dusted off my Raptor 50 this weekend after leaving her sit for a couple years (sorry!). The S3004s are getting sloppy, and I'd like to replace them this fall (I won't get many flights in over the summer). I know the S3004s aren't the greatest, but I built it just to get into the heli part of the hobby a few years ago. They have done the job, even flipping her upside down a few times and I really don't feel like setting it up after replacing all servos and switching it over to my JR 9303. I see Align DS610s are quite strong and fast, so my question is would you recommend replacing all servos, minus the tail, with the same type? Any opinions on servo combinations are welcome, thanks!

RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
WacoNut, sorry about your loss! It sucks losing such a significant project... It looks like your tail survived quite well. I just finished gluing the first jig tonight to start off my Waco build. I'd like to lighten my tail like you did, as it doesn't seem to have affected the strength!

RE: WACO YMF
Well, with all this talk of people flying their Waco's, I decided I would get started... I finished the first jig tonight, and started getting the ribs ready while watching American Chopper. Don't expect much progress, the Waco will be on the back burner as 3 other projects are already on the go! Just a reminder, this is an original 'Genesis' 1/3 Waco.

RE: Whats a good first turbine jet?
I think this thread will be good for a lot of people looking at getting into turbine jets. I'm still leaning towards purchasing and detailing a CT-114 airframe, but if I wish to fly sooner, I may look around for a used shockjet and turbine to get started. I like the fact it can be used on a grassy runway and doesn't need a massive runway, either!

RE: Whats a good first turbine jet?
Thanks for all the replies guys. I want scale because I'm more of a builder than a flyer and I'll be spending time detailing the plane before I even start thinking about purchasing a turbine. I'm not going to be cheaping out but not spending every last dime either

RE: Whats a good first turbine jet?
ORIGINAL: PaulD Looking at your location, I am assuming that you will be starting on turbines on your own. Anything scale is going to have a fully enclosed turbine that may not be easily accessable. The CompArf Tutor is an excellent flying airplane and is really easy to land but you can't even see the turbine much less the fuel tank when the hatch is on. I know it may not be your first choice but you should consider something like a Boomer Elan that is easy to set up and fly, has tons of knowledge base on the internet and will still allow you to have some jet fun. If you are set on scale, at a minimum, I would recommend setting the turbine up on a stand so you can get familiar with its operation. You might also want to consider heading to a jet event in Edmonton for some help/support for your first runs. PaulD
I know how turbines work inside and out. I work on full size helicopters by trade. My boss also has a turbine Vario helicopter. I have also tried contacting MAAC and other clubs about joining for when I travel south with no response.
