RE: How many Pilot kits do you have?
So, I sent the plans to you again Morwan, and I copied myself. So, I'm pretty sure my mail system is working okay. Did you find out if your mail service limits attachment sizes? I'm about to give up. But, I did figure out how to make my camera take higher res pics! Won't do much good if you can't receive them, though. Cheers, Lloyd

RE: How many Pilot kits do you have?
I have a pic of the entire plan sheet. Hmm. Won't let me upload the pic it says .... Request object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005' Operation not Allowed /forum/js/PGDUpload.asp, line 169 What does this mean? File too big? I guess 75K is the largest RCU will take. To keep the resolution, it will have to be a bigger file than that. This one is 536K! We may have to do private email. I'll send a PM... Later,

RE: How many Pilot kits do you have?
Morwan, I phoned Kinko's. And, yes indeed they can scan and make PDF's of the plans. For $19.95 per scan + $9.95 to burn to CD. For three sheets, that's $70. I must be a cheap SOB, cause I just don't see the value of a wing plan as worth $70. Especially when I got an entire Pilot FW-190 kit w/plans in perfect condition for $25 at an estate sale. So, I'll set up the camera to take pictures. I guess the highest resolution I have is a gif. You want that or a JPG? I have a very old copy of Adobe acrobat 3.0. I think that will it make PDFs, too. But, it might take me a while to get that working on the old computer in storage. Think I'll revisit my photography skills first. And making the folded plans flat... More later... Cheers,

RE: How many Pilot kits do you have?
Morwan, While I would LIKE to have those plans, I'm thinking the costs to copy and ship between California and Norway might be of some discomfort. Kinko's wants $9.50 for the large plan, and $4.50 each for the smaller, parts list and Builder's Guide sheets. USPS wants either $30 or $40 to ship plans, as far as I can tell. I'm trying to fit a $60 piece of large paper into my happy place and it just isn't there yet. I do have a Nikon 2M pixel camera and expect I can make pretty decent high res. pics of the plans. (fold creases might be a challenge) Might we be able to exchange through Email? I can then simply project the image on a piece of paper on the wall and trace the lines by hand at any scale I wish. What do you think? Cheers,

RE: How many Pilot kits do you have?
Morwan, I don't think mine is a Miles Magister. The horizontal stab and elevator have that characteristic de Havilland eliptical outline. I'm guessing it was a stand off scale offering popular in the 70's. But, it doesn't seem like it was from a pilot kit after all. (sigh) Thanks for the information! Cheers,

RE: How many Pilot kits do you have?
Hello again Morwan, I really like the FW kit and hope to build it one day. I'm not ready to part with it at this time, sorry. You're right though. It would look fabulous sitting beside the Me 109. Certainly good enough for a photo op! Perhaps you'd like to sell me your kit? [:D] Thanks very much for posting those plans. I did note some possible differences with the construction of mine. 1 - The rudder in the plans has an L shaped hinge line. While mine is a straight top to bottom hinge line. 2 - The turtle deck behind the cockpit has a large block of expanded foam internally. Did your kit have that? 3 - The cowling on mine is straight cut, while the plans show an angle at the fuse join. 4 - Your plans show fuse bulkheads, formers, and stringers. My example has none of those! 5 - My tail group is made of solid sheet balsa. Pilot plans show built up construction. Can you confirm your fuse is 1.2 meters long? Is the wing root cord 31 cm? This fuse of mine does not appear to have ever flown. It has an un-drilled CB-80 motor mount, Futaba FP-S15 servos (from the 70's), that look to be the only ones ever mounted in the fuselage. Its history is still a mystery. Still, your plans offer the best hope I've found for building a wing for mine, even if I have to scale them in size. Cheers,

RE: How many Pilot kits do you have?
Morwan, I'll investigate making copies of the FW 190 plans. They're as new in in the box. Maybe Kinko's can do it? It's for engine size 19-25-35 2S and 20-35-40 4S. What size engine is recommended for the Moth Minor? Cheers,

RE: How many Pilot kits do you have?
Morwan, I have a Pilot FW-190 kit. Er,...still unstarted. But, I also acquired what I *think* might be a completed Moth Minor fuselage. (See Picture below.) No wings came with it, unfortunately. Since your Moth Minor is nearing completion, could you confirm what I have is a pilot Moth Minor? The fuse I have is about 4 feet long. (~1.2 M). I'm searching for wing plans for it, if you haven't guessed. Cheers,

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??
I just read all the posts in this entire thread. And feel compelled to recount my encounter with an Andrews Aeromaster Too. Not all of these fly well. Set the wayback machine to 1978. Me, flying pattern contests and doing fairly well. These were the old ballistic pattern events. However, I had several sport planes as well and flew the wings off an old Alley Kat and put on exhibitions that other flyers commented were "thrilling" to watch. Anyway, I got the biplane bug and started investigating which to get. Just about everybody said the Aeromaster was one to have. But, I never got to fly one for one reason or another. Then I got wind of a completed one available to purchase. It had the double swept wings. T'weren't cheap, though. 250 1978 dollars was a LARGE dent in my wallet at that time. This was an era before ARFs and I usually built all my planes and they came out light. This plane LOOKED very nice and appeared to be a good quality assembly. I had seen this guy fly an ugly stick at our field. And, between crashes, it was clear that this plane could easily be beyond his current abilities He, and others, were certain I would thoroughly enjoy this plane. The weight was "only 10 pounds". And, the balistic pattern planes of the era all weighed at least that, what with retracts, pipes, and what not, and often much more. Here is where the "what you don't know can hurt you" phrase applies. No weight specs on the plans. And, a much better saleman than informed purchaser. Okay, purchase made, radio and engine installation complete, K&B pumped .61 installed (came off my trainer Ugly stick). In retrospect, it was a phenomenally good decision to put a known reliable engine on this plane. A note about my tail dragger experience at that time. Only one other plane, a profile Messersmit Me 109 (a $15 ARC Kit). This was an extremely docile airplane leaving me to wonder why anyone would have difficulty converting trike to a taildragger. However, on the third flight of the ME, the elevator hinges all separated. T'was a lot fun 'til then. Oh my, a 10 pound Aeromaster is a frighting handfull on takeoff. And, I soon learned that brown pants were highly recommended attire. If you could get it airborne it was a fairly nice performer, provide you kept the throttle above the halfway position. Figuring out which way the airplane was going to go at the top of a loop was always a challenge. Recovery proceedures were quickly learned that elevator would NOT save the airplane, only airspeed would help in that regard. No, this was definately not a pattern ship. It was a good thing that I had learned with a previous plane to fly a plane with speed all the way to the runway before the throttle could be brought down. And, good lord, stay off the rudder when only the mains were on the ground, or prepare to have everyone run from the runway edge. Okay, the wings weren't balanced. Added some nails to the light wing side. Now, if the loops were small enough (but not so small as to cause a snap) it would go over the top without random direction changes. Cool. In an effort to limit the agony of take off, more power was an attempted fix. So, a Rossi 60 with a tuned pipe was installed from one of my pattern planes. Takeoff roll now half of what it was, but still a "puckering" experience. And, after each flight I was wondering when the airplane would be fun to fly instead of intense concentration and limited predicabity of it's omnidirectional ground qualities. (yes, I adjusted the wheel tow correctly) After, 25 flights, I hung it up as a VERY attactive ornament, while there was still an entire, intact, airplane to display. All offers to buy it were retracted when I honestly told them of it's flight characteristics. Okay, nevermind. Okay, so why was this airplane a disappointment. I have to think a major contributor was its portly nature as I checked all incidences and alignments repeatedly, and with help when I thought I was overlooking something. The airframe had been glassed, epoxied, primered, painted, painted, painted, painted, and trimmed. Such paint belongs on a car, NOT an airplane. The tail surfaces were so heavy, 4-5 inches of lead bar solder were added up front to put the CG at plan. About 5 years ago, I got the biplane bug again and decided it couldn't have been as bad as I remembered. Well, I was wrong, and my reflexes aren't what they were in 78 either. Cartwheeled the plane twice on a takeoff attempts. Repair not difficult. Aparently a lead airplane doesn't damage that easily. Then it did it again upon landing it after the third flight. "What was that?" ...was all I could say in disbelief. It happened so fast, I can't even do a mental replay of what went wrong. But, there's a wing over here and a wing over there and the fuse has the wheels in the air. Okay, surprising little damage, actually. Perhaps there is more glue than balsa in this plane hidden under all that paint. I fixed it again and it now hangs as an ornament and will continue to do so until someone removes all the covering and about 4-5 lbs of very pretty, but deadly finish. No, I don't hate all Andrews Aeromasters... just this one. I bought plans off ebay to scratch build one a couple years ago Turns out to be the great planes version. But, the time hasn't come yet. I even bought a big round fiberglas cowl to put on it with the big bumps like a Jungmeister. Then, a few months ago I found an original kit at an estate sale for $30. And now, all that pretty paint on Mr. portly is beginning to crack and peel. Anybody, know how to remove K&B superpoxy (thick), and epoxy glass finish without destroying the airframe balsa? Easily, of course. Cheers,

RE: Chicken Sticks - Why?
I called ace r/c customer service. They cheerily told me the product (finger protector) was discontinued due to lack of demand and they sold their last one in 2000. I'm thinking they made those things too well. I just now wore out the one I bought in the mid '70s. Guess I'll try to make a substitute from something in a Hardware or auto parts store. I think I'm going to miss that nicely rounded tip, though. I wonder if I can make a mold and cast a new one. I'll have to go over to Tap Plastics and see if that can be done. Cheers,

RE: Chicken Sticks - Why?
I've never owned an electric starter for a model airplane. Had my fingers whacked a couple times. But, never a bad cut until I started using APC props. I did alway use a rubber finger protector from Ace R/C. But, that's all chewed through now, thanks to the APC sharp trailing edges. Anone know where I can get another? I'm not sure how relevant Methanol flash points are. The platinum in the glow element acts as a catalyst to begin the fuel burn with the residual heat from the last combustion cycle. For starting, the red hot glow element excited from battery current is more than enough to start a methanol burn under compressed conditions I don't know how cold it has to be before ignition is prevented. But, I remember starting glow engines in the middle of winter with temps in the low 30s, just with the glow battery and finger proping. These were .049 and .35 engines on 15% nitro. The flash point issue IS relevant to spark ignition IC engine that don't have a catalytic element. Also, you'll find that in winter months, E-85 gasoline is more like 70/ 30 instead of 85/15 for precisely the reason of cold starting. Cheers,

RE: Hitec Digital Servos
I don't have answers but some questions that may help. If the Futaba R127RF receivers provide too low pulse voltage for some Hitec digital servos, isn't it important to know what voltage is actually being delivered to the receiver? I seem to recall a Futaba RX getting all twitchy when a servo was moved while running NiMH 4 cell batt packs. A nicad 4 cell worked fine and a 5 cell NiMH worked okay. Seemed pretty clear that issue was one of voltage delivery. And, possibly the power distribution capability of the RX power buss for the servos. Something to think about, anyway. Cheers,

RE: How to find the wrackage ?
I think you had better re-think the distance that you can see a 2 metre plane from, watch them fly at your club and then walk out 1500 ft and now watch them fly, by your info supplied and that you think it went down behind the trees you had better open up your search to about 4500 ft and you will probably fine it

all this prove's is that there is no respect or courtesy for one another on both sides witch is the result of the moral decay of the fabric of our society. but still does not justify taking the law into your own hand's. when somebody is dumb don't be dumber or they will make a T.V /movie out of you and your actions. and yes I hunt and I do think the plane would have to be unreasonably low over said other person's property to get hit by a shot gun and destroy it.
