RE: Need help with Covering issue
Thanks guys. I will get a new iron (once funds allow it). The one I am using now is a Mini fashion iron, and it does not have any way of setting it.

Need help with Covering issue
Hey guys, I hope this is a good area for this post. I REALLY need some help with my covering job I am doing. Let me being with some of the details. I am covering a CG Chippy and trying my best to do the Art color pattern in a way. First off the wing is covered entirely in ECONOKOTE white. The trim is being done with transparent Red and Blue Monokote. Reason I am using this setup, is because I don't have a whole lot of $$ I can spend right now on covering. The LHS had a good deal on the Econo stuff, so I used it. I was able to do the blue on the underside of the wing using both the Windex method and one section without Windex. So far both "look" like it is sealed. Only thing is, when I was trimming the blue, some of it started to come up. I tried searching thru some post on here to find ways to control that, but never found anything on Mono over Econo. So question is this. What can I do to make this work. I really don't want to have to strip the entire wing and start over. Thanks,

help with chippy
Hey guys, I am sloooowly finishing up my CG chippy. I am at a point where I am going to mount the Rx. From where it shows on the plans, the ant will be running under the servos. So I wanted to check to see if that is going to cause any problems, or should I relocate it to someplace else.

RE: How to make a 3D American Flag on your planes
Hey guys, I think this post deserves another bump :) I found it while looking at some Chipmunk builds here. I had seen a Super Hots with this color/pattern scheme and wondered "How It's Made". Up until now I had been tossing a few possible scheme's for my Chippy once it is finished. Now I think I have my answer. I did a flag scheme on a 4*60 I had back in '98, but this looks SOOOOOO much better. I also started off with the solid white base cover, and using poster board temps, cut all the stars and stripes out by hand. At that time I did not know at the window cleaner trick so each piece was ironed on. Never had a problem with bubbling or peeling.

CG Chipmunk tail wheel
Hey guys, I picked up a CG Super Chipmunk kit a couple of years ago and just now getting back on it to finish it up. Not sure what happened, but somewhere along the way, I have lost the tail wheel bracket/rod. So I was looking for a tail wheel setup I could use. I found one on TH's site but not sure if it will work or not with the Chippy's rudder. Anybody else use a different wheel setup that was easy to do? Thanks

Hey guys, Thanks for all the great input. I will go with the 82 for sure. I spoke with one of the guys at the field today, and he also suggested starting with a 14x8 or so. So now I just need to figure my color scheme. :)

Goldberg Chipmunk ?
Hey guys, I have a CG Chippy that I have working on/off for the past two years. I have been trying to save up for a good engine for it. I had thought of putting a .91 4s. Well luck may have it, but I lucked up on a Saito .82 GK. So I wanted to know if it would be good enough to fly that plane, or should I go with the .91 or a DLE 20.

RE: 6EXP battery question
Hey Bill, I took the battery out today and put it on my bench charger and discharged it to 9.6v. After that I charged it at a rate of .4 till it said it was fully charged. When I checked it, it only put back in 112 mAh. Then checked it on my volt meter and it showed 10.6v So from what I can tell the battery does need to be replaced. My question is what are my choices?? I don't want to put the same "600 mAh" battery back in. I would like to have something a little bigger. I have looked at a few sites that show Tx batt's like I want (A123's or NiMh), but not the physical size I need. I have also seen some 11.1v Lipo's that say will work in my Tx. BUT if I do go with a Lipo, will I need to make any mods to the Tx for it to work. I don't want to burn it up, I would much rather know ahead of time what I can and can't use.

6EXP battery question
I purchased a 6EXP (FM) radio two years ago. The first year I had it, it was never used, so I have only been using the radio for about a year now. I think I am having a issue with the battery. I can put it on a overnight charge with the wall wart. When I unplug it and check, it shows 11.0 volts. By the time I get to the field and setup, which is 20 mins away, the volts show around 10.3 to 10.6. I normally fly 3-4 flights when I go out, and each flight is maybe 10-15 mins. By the time I finish with my 4th flight, the radio is already down to either 9.9 or 9.8. At this point I either pack up and go home, or I pull the batt out and put it on my field charger. When I do, I only charge it at .4 for about 20 mins. Basically just enough to get one or two more flights in. So my question is this, is there a problem with the battery? If so, what battery can I replace it with??? I Don't want to get the same batt that is in there now thou. I would much rather have something around 1100mAh. Thanks

RE: baffel or not to baffel??
I may need to clarify one or two things. When I stated it was on the stand, I meant that the plane was on the stand at the field. Reason for pulling the baffel out was a fellow member had suggested it, and I was willing to try anything to get it running good. I am going back out to the field tomorrow and try it again, with the baffel back in. There will be some other more experienced members there than can help. [;)]

baffel or not to baffel??
Hey guys, I need a little help here. I went out today to try and maiden my plane today and had nothing but engine problems. I purchased a used TH .46 with a OS muffler. When it was on the stand, I could start it up and runs fine at FT as well at idle. But when I would try to take off, it would just sputter and die after I got mid throttle. SOOOOO I played with the needles a little, changed out the plug with a brand new OS #8. Still was doing the same thing. Then a buddy at the field said let's try it without the baffel. So I took it out and fired up the engine. Boy did that make a difference. I did not try to fly it as the winds picked up and it was time for me to head to work, but the engine seemed to be running alot better. But I noticed the motor was a little hotter, so I made it richer. I said all that to asks this, is it ok to run with out the baffel and just make sure it is rich enough????

Servo Hatch question
Hey guys, I have been working off and on building a CG Super Chip. At first I was going with the Bell crank system. But since I have seen so many going to dual ailerons. Sooooo I decided to go that route as well. My question is what material should I make the hatch from? I made a template from 1/32 balsa and made the hatch from some 1/32 Basswood, but the balsa seems to be stronger. Or could I just FG the basswood and it be good enough? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question lol. I have built a few planes before, but none with dual ailerons.

RE: HELP with Magnum XL 46
Well as far as me, I can do a ok job at tuning, I had a TT .46 a few years back, but now all I have is two TH .40's and a G-26. But I had two other club memebers helping me Tuesday at the field. Now as far as how good they are, I am not really sure lol. The only reason I mentioned changing out the carb, was based on a post I found during a search on here. I run Omega 15% in my 40's, but I am almost out, so I may switch back to the 10% like I ran awhile back. Here is also a little more info on my setup. As of right now, this engine is mounted on a SPAD Debonair with a 10oz tank. So, if tank placement is the issue, I do have another plane (Escapade) I can put this engine on and try it. Ultimately that is the plane this engine is destine for anyway. My goal this weekend, is to take the carb off and inspect it and the o-ring, reset the settings back to the base of 2 turns out. Put in a NIP OS 8 plug and see what happens. And thanks guys for the help.

RE: HELP with Magnum XL 46
I have swapped out the plug two or three times, one with the idle bar and one without. I have not taken the carb off the 40 yet so not sure, I just wanted to ask before I did. But I will give the current carb a try again. After I take it off and make sure it is free of all junk. As prop goes, I am currently using a MAS 11X6

HELP with Magnum XL 46
Hey guys, I picked up a Magnum XL .46 from a club memeber who I know treats his equipment with very good care. BUT this engine that I picked up from him is giving me serious fits. When he gave the me the engine he did not remeber much of it's history, so I really don't have much to go on. But this is what I have done so far with no success in getting it to run well. I reset both the HS and the LS needle's to specs (HS - 2 1/2 - LS 2 - Out) Fire the engine up and tuned just the HS and it's good. So time to adjust the ls, get it as close as we can and sometimes it will transition great and other times it won't. SO I did some research here and found a post or two that mentioned tossing the current carb and replacing it with a OS carb. Question is which carb do I need to replace it with??? I currently have two Tower .40's one in use, the other I just retired cause the front bearing needs to be replaced. So, can I use the carb from this engine, or does it need to be for a 46???? The carb on the .40 is a air bleed carb.

RE: Airplane car carrier plans.
Well one suggestion would be to get a used cargo carrier that straps to the top of the car. Only thing, it would put a limit on the size plane you can bring along. Unless you can modify it. There was a guy once that had made one out of 1/4" plywood that could hold two 40 sized planes.
