RE: Hooben Elefant Build Log
Road wheel suspension assemblies are complete. The only problem with the units was the inner threads on the axles were stripped out. I drilled them deeper and tapped them to use a longer screw. I test fit them to the hull but I need to sand a little here and there to get them to fit correctly.

I had to change the base plate for the gun. When mounted, it bound up moving the gun to the left due to the plate flexing. I used the metal version from ETO with a servo pocket that came with my Futaba radios.

Since playing on WOT I fell in love with the Stug and most of the TDs. That's a definite on my list. Where did you get the tracks? Hope you do a build log on the electronic changes and mods prior to painting.

RE: Hooben Elefant Build Log
I used the pre-made zim from ETO. I used 5 minute epoxy to apply. I had to enlarge the cutouts a little. I couldn't find bearings to fit due to their length, so I used the bushings that came with the kit. I thought of two separate bearings but from their design the one piece bushing seems to add to the structure of the road wheel.

So how close is it to the maiden? With that 1/8" play, Can you see the cable housing through the fuse. I usually lock down the outer sheath of the cable with CA everywhere I can. Some models more then others. Same thing happens to me with the Sullivan NY-rods. Hopefully it will be another tack and it will be gone.

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, If you would like to sell one of the canopies. I am very interested. Please PM me with the perticulars and I'll get you the money. It does seem that the finish was not hard enough. It says 24hr full cure at 70 degrees. I now give them at least 24hrs then I use 150watt indoor flood lights and bake for a couple hours too. I scratch a pin in a hidden spot to test the hardness of the finish. I also use a scrap piece of wood to time the cure. I use that to test and if it passes all my tests I'll move to the plane The tape I have been using I purcase at a auto paint supplier all the thicknesses and with the paper attached for large areas. Comes off nicely and any little blemishes come off with a light sanding. I used to paint guitars and I wouldn't touch the base coat for a week. Then I would test for hardness after that. and when it passes I'd move on to taping. Bill

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, fine work. I know very well the orange peeling and bugs. I even built an elaborate setup as a booth and still had the problems. Luckily I could sand and polish it out. There were some spots That I know about but you can't tell only if you look hard. I never took a picture of it. Lost it on the third flight with a radio glitch. It was a Byron F16. It whet full bore straight down. Total loss. you can tell that was years ago by the plane. Haven't really done much painting lately on anything. Building mostly WW1 Bipes and using stain instead. Got the plans for your plane and accumulating the parts and accesories now. I'm still having no luck finding a canopy over here. Might carve a block and try from scratch. Keep up the good work. Bill

RE: Super monokote - not so super anymore
I've used Monokote since 1983. Loved the product. Even gave covering demos at the hobby shop for beginners. Had nothing bad to say even using the chrome version. Todays Monokote is really bad. Stick and shrink wise. I don't know if it is a QC problem , a change in formula, ....etc. I wish they would go back to the original formula. If it is a byproduct gas issue then you use in a well ventilated area and put a warning on the product. I went to Superkote from Hobby lobby but now that is gone. It was closer to the original super monokote. Ultrakote is fine but the elasticity of the product compared to the Monokote turns me off. Started using silkspan and solartex for my WW1 and fabric style covering with good results. I've been traveling around and when I find an older hobby shop I'll ask if they have older rolls of monokote. Got some but not in the colors I really need. They tested out to be like the original Monokote. Don't know what the real story is of why it's changed, but hope the people that be will hear us and maybe give us the product we really want. And yes I would pay more for that product. Just my 2 cents, Bill

I picked up 5 (Super Hots, F4D, Hellcat, Small OV10 Bronco, and small AT6). Then went back the next day and bought 3 more ( Super hots bipe, Giant OV10 Bronco, and Regular hots). They have to have another sale. I got 4 more on my wish list. Got to hit Flying models and RCM. Hope for sales there too.

It had pre molded foam wings with the aluminum mounting spar molded in. I remember that there was a wing mod in flying models magazine that converted it to a "XL" version. That might be a plan to make your wings from.

RE: Modeler or ARfer?
I've always built. It is the most enjoyable part of the hobby for me. I have couple ARFS that I'll fly around for fun. But my first love is to take a pile of balsa and ply and create a plane either from a kit or plans. I haven't got into the fiberglass plug(except for a cowl... toward the ARFs. When they liked one of my planes I would build them one if I had the time (we were
