RE: Leap of Faith - Byron P-51 Clone
Nothing to report, just been collecting dust. This has been a bad year. High School baseball consumed my time in the early part of the year. Umpiring finished the summer. My brother and kids came up from Florida for 2 weeks right after umping ended and we filled 2 construction dumpsters out of my parents house. Then my wife had a trip and fall breaking her arm while subbing in at day care. Dr. said it was shattered. Operation with metal plates pins and screws. Going to rehab and everywhere else. I have a new job now - Driving Ms. Sheryl. So I have been busy but not building or flying. Cast comes off Monday. Hopefully another hard cast doesnt go on. We are hopping for a removable one. Protect the arm, but allow for more flexibility. Not giving up though. Thanks for the nuge Firepower. I needed it. Forgot to mention: Took over watching my grand daughter for my wife, and son was recently divorced and helped him move.

RE: Blue foam fuselage
I did my 1st foam loss method using Bondo brand polyester resin from the local auto parts store over pink foam. Scaled up a Brian Taylor Bf109E to 81" ws. Framed and filled between the bulkheads with foam and hot wire cut following the fuselage formers. Repaired my bad hot wire cutting with light weight spackling and sanded. Covered with econokote ( low temp so as not to damage the foam ). Trimmed the econokote off at the formers so the fiberglass could stick there. Should have waxed the econokote but didnt ( lessons learned ). First layer of cloth was .5oz to keep cure temp at a min. Then 2 layers of 2.7oz. Removed foam using acetone then gas ( outside of course ) messy. Let it dry and it pealed out easy. Made a light weight and strong structure.

I use my all in one for small stuff, but for larger plans I mounted an old slidding glass door to the wall of my build room. Its hinged, so it folds down after use.

RE: Byro gear for p51 and parts
Originals were plastic with brass upbrade cylinders later. Have both. Plastic are gray material and of course brass is brass. Note: top bag above with P-47 label is early version. Later version or upgrade version is bag below with brass cylinders. Same gear were used on P-51 and P-47.

RE: TOP FLITE GS ARF's & RTC's
Axis air is more fun to fly, because anyone at the field flying anything wants to get on your 6. Doesnt matter if its a Kadet or another warbird. That makes flying your typical P-51 seem boaring, and I love my P-51's. Just my 2 cents worth.

RE: Any instructions on how to build a radio control system from scratch?
My first radio system was a Heath Kit 8 channel back in the late 70's. It was a great experience, but I would never want to do it again. In those days there were only something like 7 frequencies available and 3 or 4 were shared with surface R/C. Not only did you have to have an AMA but also a FCC license to operate.

At the Toledo Expo several years ago I picked up plans for the D5a from Scale Plans & Photo Service. They appear close to a D3. Not sure on the real differences, maybe different engines? 1/5th scale at 71" upper wing and recomended power = 1.20 four stroke. Hope this helps http://www.scaleplansusa.com/

RE: Inverted 4 Stroke
Once running they are fine. Its starting them inverted that can cause problems. The engine can flood easily and if using an electric starter it can bend things like push rods, rocker arms, etc. Been there, done that. Easy to repair with new replacement parts, if youre handy. My solution: Make a cradle to hold the airplane inverted for starting ( engine upright ) . Once started, lift out of the cradle, sit on wheels, adjust needle and fly.

RE: Kadet Prop size
Prop the engine, not the plane. Ground clearance is the only plane concederation. Note: I have converted 3 Sig Kadets to tail dragger over the years. The one that I changed the tail to that of a Champion Citabria had the best ground handling. This almost doubled the rudder surface area. The one I left stock, very slow throttle up was required as to not start chasing its tail in circles. Once in the air it was fine.

I have taken the Troybuiltmodels web site off of my favorites list because if I visit it my computer locks up. So many things loading, pop-ups ??? don't know, don't care, but my computer just goes into NOT RESPONDING. I can only manually shut it off and power it up for a reboot. Operating system is Windows XP, yes its old but so am I. Retired and not planning on buying a new computer every time there is an upgrade. If I can't look, without my computer locking up, then I probably won't be a future customer. Just my 2 cents worth.

Multi Purpose: Cargo ( palatized or rolling ) - carry airborne troops - Gun Ship (Black Bird or Puff the Magic Dragon) - and don't forger bomber. (many instant Drop Zones were created by strapping a bomb to a standard 88"x108" pallet, arming and dropping it out the back cargo door and instant DZ with no enemy. During the Easter Offensive of 1972 the flight engineer and loadmaster had the privelege of hanging through criss crossed tie-down strapes in the side jump doors and shooting flares accross the front of the path of SAM's fired at the aircraft. Wow, I just enjoyed the research and what I learned from it. I'M UP! If this means I get to ask the next question, then here goes. If not correct me please, because I have not read this whole tread. How many clues do I start with and at what frequency do I add more? What Warbird do I describe? Clues: (1) Multi Purpose Aircraft. (2) Could take off and land on a football field with a 35,000lb payload.
