WAYYYY to much KV. High KV motors lack low end torque also adding to your problem. I predict you will see smoke soon! [;)]

RE: best bang for you buck brushed motor on the market.
ORIGINAL: hands without shadows I'm not an elitest or think I am from the old school. I wish more people shared my interests like they used to.
Amen! I'm not an old geyser yet, but everyday I'm a little closer. Brushed motors can generate good power. In 1998-99 I had an Associated Team TC3 running a no turn limit ESC, and various ultra hot wind motors, 3-5 turn type setups, mainly for "bashing" and top speed fun, not much racing (hate the politics). Running Ni-Mh "matched" packs (remember that term?) LOL, the car was in the mid 70's pretty easy with a pretty hack setup otherwise as far as suspension, weight distro, and aerodynamics. The thing that was the absolute WORST about these setups, was running 2,3 maybe 4 packs through if you really pushed it, and then full motor tear down time. Those super soft silver brushes (not cheap)- toast after 15 mins. I had my own Hudy lathe and did my own motors but it was a REAL downer!!! I don't miss that one bit. OK , that was quite a worthless rant. [;)] The 19T Chameleon was a favorite motor of mine as well back in the day, I actually had 3 cans and mayby 4 armatures for them. Great balance of torque/power and not picky about gearing. Good overall motor "life" too. The P2K was also a great stock motor, they last and last and last. I remember I had a "cheater" P2K that I popped the bushings out of and put bearings into, LOL [:D] I had every turn motor from stock spec 27's, down to 3T. Realistically, anything below 12T brushed would not be worth it, unless you have your own lathe (or a buddy with one), and a cheap source/endless supply of brushes. Motors like that simply require ALOT of maintainance, no matter who they are made by/ or where they are from. On hobby king you can buy a 40 amp car brushless ESC ($25), and a 2700kv motor that matches it for about ($30). Running it on 2S 7.4 packs in a light 4wd buggy I get 40mph and 15+ minutes run time easy, maybe 135 degree motor temp when done. Our ambient temp is unusually high, mid 90's so I imagine that setup has more in it once it cools down some. But this assumes you have li-po batteries and a charger for them. Nothing at all wrong with running a cheap brushed can setup. I'm fortunate enough to have a dozen planes, 4 helis, and 6 or so 1/4 gas boats all with full mod or Quickdraw engines. I'm just getting back into cars again after a LONG break. Competitive racing just burned me out and ruined all the fun for me. I forgot how much fun cars are. All the brushed equipment people are getting rid of you can get some nice stuff on ebay/Craig's list, ect for next to nothing. If you are just bashing around with a couple buddies over a beer or two, who friggin cares what kind of setup you got? The elite"est" really tick me off (and most everyone else) and ultimately they drive others away from the hobby [:o] Sad, but true. Another place to check for cheap 540/550 can motors is Scientific supply shops. I've seen plain jane 540/550 can motors for $2-3 at times. Another thing you can do to pickup some speed in run on 7 cells. Even the most cheapest brushed ESC will usually handle 7 ni-cd, nimh cells under load. Also, gear it up and watch the motor temps. If you smoke a $3 motor you can laugh, open another beer and throw it in the trash [:D] Just getting back into cars I got myself a HPI Vorza, I know how far things have come electronics wise from my E planes, helis, and a few boats I recently converted epower, so was VERY interested to see where cars were at. Stock outta the box on 6 cells the thing is actually frightening!! The sounds of those metal gears intimidating. I only made a few full speed passes on some empty road but would have to say it was dang near 70 outta the box, completely stock. Weighing in at what it does (I dunno 12-13 lbs?) with 22.2 V worth of battery strapped in that is simply amazing!!! Seem like it would definetly amputate both feet with little problem if you hit yourself or someone with it at full tilt. So, I got 60 tons of clay delivered, and a Bobcat rented for the entire weekend!!!! Backyard track here we come. This morning, the neighborhood association rent-a-cop was doing some "paperwork" parked right out in front of my house while staring at the pile of clay taller than my house, LOL!! But back on track, I really don't have ANY car racing buddies at all. So my wife agreed and thought it be cool if we got a couple bone stock Duratrax Evaders (with stock can motors) and race each other in our own "spec" class. I'm not going to modify anything on these, leave 'em 100 completely stock. So there is plenty of fun to be had with cheap R/C gear. Not everyone gives a rats azzz if they have the latest and greatest Losi race kit, or the next jigawatt 1000 amp brushless controller 30S capable or a motor that sips up 20,000 watts and dosen't even get warm. Sometimes its fun just to drive R/C "toys" (and yes, all of these are just toys I don't care how much $$$$-$$$$$ you got in 'em). [:)]

Very solid control, NO glitching whatsoever, I had not even extended the aerials out of the hulls. Range is as good as my Futaba 2.4 or PCM sets, even running from a kayak sitting low in the water. Very impressed. My only gripe is that it seems some of the individual model settings are not being remembered or are defaulting to the setting the last model used. Or maybe I'm doing something dumb. At any rate, for <$50 for a spare 2.4 set, 6 RX's that I can kick around, toss around and not feel guilty about, It's a definte score.

RE: MACHINED INTAKE MANIFOLD
The stock plastic iso blocks are junk! I have taken ones off new never run motors that were already warped. Toasted an engine due to detonation, later found out the iso block was seriously warped, letting enough unmetered air in that the engine was running too lean. I use aluminum iso blocks on all my non QD engines now. At least when run with the teflon gaskets, they come back ice cold!, bag after bag of fuel, even in 100deg heat in the summer. I wouldn't have belived it either had I not seen it myself. No need for a water cooled iso block, lol....

I'll 2nd that I've seen a stage IV Bonzi in action and it is less than impressive. Get yourself a stock Zen jug ($38), buy some tools if necessary, follow Scott Schneider's Zen mod aritcle carefully, and you'll have a motor that will beat many/most "garage" wanna-be "pro tuners" motors out there. In fact my first Scott Schneider jug had me looking at a popular sellers CNC'd jug ran back to back on the same bottom end/same boat/ same setup prop- thinking WTF??? I can't believe some of the people out there selling "tuned" jugs to the masses at the extremely low performance levels they offer. But "its faster than stock", right?? [:-][8|][;)]

The Falcon is a great boat and Frank is a great guy to deal with! You really can't go wrong. The hull is very versatile and is just at home run straight line speed runs as it is in oval trim. It is also a very setup forgiving boat and would make a good first cat... I would not hesitate to buy another if/when I ever manage to kill my first one...

best advice is make sure there is always no air and some fuel in the bag touching all areas, otherwise its possible a dry spot or dry seam will develope, or crack/split and leak later.

Your post reaks of nothing but drama and stirring the pot. Let me get this straight, you have the $ for not one, but TWO large scale gasoline aircraft and all you have for a radio is a DX6i? [X(] Heck I'm sometimes afraid to put a 450 heli in the air with mine, I would never even think about flying such a powerful, dangerous, large and sophisticated model with an entry level radio such as a DX6i. Then, after destroying one aircraft of which the cause you are not certain (I would be packing up heading home tail tucked between my legs, and headed to the bench to try and replicate or rule out what caused the first one to go down) you decide that's not enough an stick another one into the ground?? Now make a post on RCU badmouting HH because you caused your own problem in several different ways? LOL... Thanks for the laugh buddy...[:-]

RE: Ponds or lakes
I used to run in that "general" area. There is a pond in South Aurora just east of rte 25/the river- its in a city park- the name escapes me. There used to be a good gathering of nitro burners there back in the day (this is going back 8-10 years) I was the only gasser at the time but I'm sure things have changed. It is a designated R/C boat pond by the city and has signs and such denoting the hours/rules/ ect... As I understood it Silver Springs was never a "legal" boat running pond except for the organized race the local club held there once/twice a year. I found that out the hard way by getting booted by the ranger... (too bad b/c that is a really neat spot/lake with the natural sping feed) Also there are several nice ponds in the Warrenville area in the industrial park in the north vincinity of Fox Valley mall (just west of 59 behind the large auto parts store/Michael Jordan golf course). Again this going back many years but I had an "unofficial" OK from the rent-a-cop security force that patrolled that buisness area and they were OK with me running those ponds at the time. There are at least 6-8 good sized, well maintained ponds back there. Noise is not an issue since its an industrial park and nearby RR tracks. The industrial park followed by the South Aurora pond were the two spots I frequented most when I lived in Batavia, IL. MKM

RE: ENFORCER OWNERS ~~ This is your thread
ORIGINAL: spoolinaww WHH hulls are very strong, I'm shocked to see that somebody said the hull couldn't handle speeds of 50+
Has nothing to do with the strength of the hull. Has everything to do with a very outdated design with too much hull lift for modern engine outputs. The G/XP/Team bottom has not changed since the days of running 2hp Homelites, what the hulls were originally designed for. Stick a REAL 5+hp engine in there, and you will have a TON of handling problems. This coming from a Team XP owner who has ran the boat with several different engines and configurations. I will admit to cutting my teeth on gas boats with a WHH Team XP, and they are great sport boats, but that's it (maybe with the exception of the Silex). Can you make one do 50+? probably, can you drive the boat in a controlled manner with other boats running nearby without it violently hooking or rolling itself all the way over from prop torque? doubt it... Especially with inline (rudder behind the prop running hardware). On that note I'll be posting my Team XP in the classifieds shortly, again a great boat to cut your teeth on and get into the hoobby with, but i've simply outgrown mine. Not to be a complete downer, here are a few pics of mine again, its for sale. For the record, fastest I got mine GPS verified was 46.6mph (I'm also at 6000ft above sea level). This is with the boat in its current configuration, Zenoah M5 jug with additional porting, IV bag low in the boat, stock XP driveline, heavily modded X472 prop. The boat is setup with dual forced watercooling channels (from one pump)- one side feeds the head/dumps out the side, other circuit goes into the header flange, then into the wet pipe. This mod can be done to the stock water pump (saw someone discussing earlier...) Personal opinion here- I have ran both stock and modified versions of both. While the Zen is a great engine, unless they do some serious updating and produce an RC specific engine (new design from the ground up), the RCMK will soon be the engine of the future (for mainstream masses).

RE: converting a rio 51 to brushless power-Help
ORIGINAL: wizzle Sorry if this sounds stupid but If the second setup with the feago motor was made tocarry a brushless 1/8 why not this boat?
Because a boat runs at nearly full load/full rpm constantly. A buggy, car, plane, heli does not. A boat/marine application is the hardest on electronics(or engines) moreso than any other application. Also the buggy gas the benefit of multiple gear reductions. The Feigao itself is a decent motor but will draw alot of amps in the boat application. The ESC and especially batteries will be hurting. Also the chance of nailing the setup on something unconventional like this and not burning a few batteries/esc's/motors is nearly impossible. I've been into fast electrics for 15+ years and would still fully expect to have a 'mishap' or two setting up an electric of that caliber. Heck there are OEM manufacturers building much smaller RTR's that can't get it right, LOL.

RE: converting a rio 51 to brushless power-Help
That is a huge boat to convert electric. It can be done but will be incredibly expensive to do right, at least 1k+. You will need very high voltage (lots of expensive li-pos- 3S isnt anywhere even close), a very low KV motor, and some bomb proof HV ESCS. This would not be at all a project for a beginner in electrics to take on. Just the motor and ESC(s) would put you over 1k easily, let alone battery packs or spare batteries... do yourself a favor and get a decent stock gas engine (RCMK EVO) for example and save yourself alot of trouble.
ORIGINAL: forescott Motor temps were 106 after about 7 minutes. Charged the lipos and took it out again later in the afternoon and my other motor quit after about 100 yards. Got it home to investigate. The motor jumps back and fourth from clocwise to counterclockwise really fast when I apply the throttle. Really weird, Ive never seen that before! Played with it a little more and got it to spin on its own again but its got a little (blip) when running. It doesnt run smooth like it should. I'm gonna send it back to venom and hope that they will send me a new one. Wish me luck!
More than likely a burned winding/pole in the motor. Continuing to try and run it with a shorted or burned winding in the motor will ruin the ESC. 7 minutes is a LONG time to run a hot electric setup. Measuring the can temperature is nearly useless. The heat that toasts the motor is not reflected in the can temperature until its too late(especially in a brushless inrunner) MKM

Why wouldn't you want to use an RCMK if you are looking for something stockish with more power than a stock Zen? The 2 bolt jug is a fundemental design flaw of the engine that will hurt reliability long term for sure... Personally I wouldn't buy an engine for my weedeater with a 2bolt head- when you consider how important that interface is and how much stress it is under, the 2 bolt deign just dosen't make any sense...

Personally I would not invest the approx 1k it would take to convert that hull to electric power. Buy a decent hull first as a foundation. Better yet, buy a slightly smaller higher quality hull that will require a smaller and more affordable power system to run well. You'll end up with a higher quality, better handling, and faster boat that you'll be happier with in the long run. just my .02...
