28% Pilot Decathlon cowl width.
Just a quick question, On the 107" 28% Pilot Decathlon, does anyone know how wide the cowling is at the engine air inlets? I've got the Saito fg-57t twin gas that needs a home. Thanks in advance for any info, Mark.

RE: New Decathlons From Seagull 91 and 120 Size!
I maidened my SD 120 today, and it has a real learning curve for me on takeoffs! The DLE20 is just the right amount of power and it balances right on. The only question I have is, can these planes be safely flown without the struts? I've got a 30cc size YAK that has a smaller wing tube than this one, and it has'nt folded yet. Thanks in advance, Mark.

RE: If there was no ARF's, would you still be in the hobby?
Iv'e built kits for many years before the ARFS came along, but what I would like to see is the ARF manufacturers offer their planes in pre cut form, but not assembled for a little less $. The quality of the laser cutting and such now days can't be beat! Remember die crushing? I would much rather assemble it myself to get the glue joints right, and cover it my way! Mark.

RE: HABU 32?
To anyone "on the fence" about using seperate power for the radio, DO IT!!!!! The BEC on mine cut off the reciever on the back side of a split s at full power dive. Straight into the ground, second flight.[:@] If I used the LiFe 1100 pack that I have in another plane, this one would still be alive! I don't think the stock ESC can deal with the power requirements of this plane. I used HS85bb servos. Some of the servos are ok, and the motor and fan are ok, the rest is history! I've noticed reading through all the posts, there seems to be ALOT of concern about this issue, the planes going to be on the way to Horizon for evaluation(hopefully replacement). We'll see! Mark

Just a quick question to anyone that has had this engine apart, what type of bearings do they use on the rod, needle or plain? Mark

Has anyone out there that has one of these engines run it yet? I'm on the fence about this engine, it looks pretty nice and it would go in alot of different planes. Mark.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Go for the single bolt prop hub setup, it's sooo much better to work with. The 30 does'nt need multi bolts, the 3.2 Brison I have has a single bolt and it works fine too! Mark.

RE: New Seagull Extra 260 180
Has anyone had to put right thrust in thier engines to hold a good straight up line with no rudder? My firewall is zero-zero, No thrust angles at all. Gotta kick the mount holes to the left 5-10mm, then put spacers under the left standoffs. In inverted flight it likes to climb hands off, I think it might be a little tail heavy. I've got a DLE-30 on it, a real good combo! Mark

RE: NEW DLE30!
The machine work is superb! The only drawback I can see is the overall cost, unless this is for a prototype idea for the factory to possibly incorperate into the design in the future. But for now, I've not had any problems with the idle and or dieing on landing as some have had since filling in the stock backplate with metal putty. The rear of this engine runs quite cool, even after a good WFO run, so fuel vaporization isn't real good hence the need to keep the velocity up to keep the fuel in suspension on the way to the reeds. So far, Iv'e got 5 tanks through it and it runs like a top! Running AMSOIL 100-1 oil at 50-1 with premium. I'm not babying this thing, just flying like normal and running the bejesus out of it, it's getting better every flight! Mark.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Just ran and maidened the new plane and eng. combo today. Engine is the DLE-30 and the plane is the Seagull extra 260 180. This is the best combo I've flown yet, very SWEET!! This little engine is running great, and getting better every time it's run. The plane is a perfect match for the 30, and cheap too! Mark.

NGK CM-6
For those that use this plug, they can be had for less than $2 EA. online. Google the part #98052-56471 , it's a Honda part#, they go in a small generator (300 series). My local Honda dealer has them for about $4, NAPA for about $8. Just for the record, these plugs fit the threads in the DL/DLE WAY better than the stock ones! (Flame suit on, Jody) Mark.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Just recieved the single bolt hub adapter from BCCHI, it's a quality unit! The only issue I had installing it was I had to modify an old 1/2" socket to install the new retainer nut under the adapter. The socket needs to be a very thin wall to fit inside the hub. NO more drilling props full of holes. This works awsome! Thanks, Bill (BCCHI). Mark

Drewbags, You said you had to drill out the holes on the evo pitts muffler. Is that just increasing the size or having to oblong the holes to fit? Mark.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Got the little 30 up and running today for the first time! All I can say is, this thing makes major power for it's size!! Turning a Mejzlik 18x10 at 8500 on 25-1 fuel. Idles semi- reliably at 16-1700. So far, this out powers my G-26 by a pretty healthy margin. Only found two problems to work on so far.....1. The multi bolt prop hub has to go, single works just fine for this size motor. 2. The noise is a little on the loud side..the muffler needs some work. Maybe Bisson has one ready for it. Overall it ran very good, quik throttle response from idle, top end seemed smooth, the idle will get better with time. A question to those that have one of these in hand, what brand of carb came on yours? Mine has a Tillotson, I'd prefer a Walbro. Maybe I'll take the one off the G-26. I give it a B+ for now. Mark.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Capt,N, I used an aluminum filled epoxy from the local supply house that is good for 250 F continous up to 300 F intermittent. This won't get anywhere near that temp plus this is totally non structural, just fill in purposes only. Also it is petroleum resistant. It cures quite fast, ready to grind with the Dremel and a sanding drum in a half hour. Turned out really good, now there's nowhere for the fuel to puddle. Now to mount it and run it!! P.S. The epoxy is a putty that you knead together, not a liquid. Mark.

RE: NEW DLE30!
I'll take the risk of the warranty being gone now, rather than loosing a plane to deadstick. I can absolutely see how the atomized fuel can fall out of suspension in this intake tract, then puddle at the bottom. IF something breaks on it (the engine), I'll just replace it and keep on truckin. So far I have a real good feeling that this engine is going to work great! Granted, there's probably alot of people out there that have not had or never will have a problem. To me, this little mod, that took all of 30 min. to do is worth a lot of peace of mind. If you don't think you can do it, (intake mod), then by all means please don't! Mark.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Just got my DLE 30 yesterday, took it apart to check everything and do the intake fill in mod. I gotta say, the machine work on this unit looks VERY good overall, and it has more compression out of the box than my DL-50 had with gallons through it! After doing the intake filler mod, it's all back together and ready to run. I don't anticipate ANY trouble with this eng!! My G-26 has had more dead sticks than any eng. iv'e owned, it's wasted two good flying planes so far! My G-23 runs awsome and I'm hoping the DLE-30 will kick it's ___!! Mark.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Jody, In the photos you posted, what type of material did you use to make it out of? I work with Marty as a mold maker. We were trying to figure out what type of urethane to use that would cast into a silicone mold. I think most urethanes won't do well with gas & heat. Mark

RE: Let's try again DL-50
So far I've got a little over a gallon through it, but it has almost NO compression. It seems to run good, but power wise my Brison 3.2 stomps it. Brison turns a Menz S 22-8 at 8000 on the ground. The DL runs the same prop at 7300. This eng. is supposed to be a power monster, by all reports. Will the compression get better with time? I hope so!! Thanks for any ideas, Mark.

RE: Great Planes Ultimate 160
Hi all, Iv'e got to say, this is ultimate #4 for me, 2 Goldbergs, 1 Dave Patrick prior. So far this is the best flying plane I have ever owned Bar None!!!! This is the easiest to land plane of all, short of the spacewalker. I maidened it last weekend, now it turned into the only one I want to fly!!! Got a Brison 3.2 with a 22.8 Menz S. Super power combo-- straight up full rolls to the clouds. Yeeee Haw!!!!! Mark
