Internal linkages
Hi, Looking for info and advice. I have build and flown many jets over the years, but never had the need for internal aileron linkages. Any one that can show me the golden rule or bible for internal aileron linkages? Rudders, elevators, flaps i am happy with. But ailerons is a problem for me due to space for max horn length and maximum mechanical torque.. Any help will do. Regards Morne

RE: Sky Masters large F-86 tail separation
Hi, The production factory mistakenly produced the wrong fin to all first customers. We had different versions for prototype to test and also different weight fins for best CG and minium weight in nose. All these customers will receive new fin with speed brake insert for free. We have already informed all customers and ask them to be patient. We ask them not to fly until the fins were changed. I have just return from Nats in SA. I am very happy with static score considering i have only spend 2 weeks preparing the paint. It scored 50 points behind Skygate hawk and 2 Vampires from SA that took very high static points in World champs. So with a little more efford and better 3 views - the SM f86 is TOP competion model in F4J class. I had some problems with flight due to my internal linkages causing flutter. I have flown outside likage before with no problem. But change inside for competition. But had no time to sort out before competition. But will rectify soon and report on progress. Regards Morne

RE: Skymaster Hawk 100 Maiden
Hi Michel, I really do not know. I was going to do the national flag hawk 100 as flown by our airforce, but after seing the camo desert scheme i am not so sure anymore. Yes the landing gear is a Likai masterpiece again. Machined from solid. My guess is that a CNC machine will work all day just doing 1 landing gear. Just like the full size.... Regards Morne

Skymaster Hawk 100 Maiden
Hi, Finally got the chance to fly my SM Hawk 100. Uneventfull! The landing gear is the best! Lanidng is a breeze and you can keep the nose in the air almost till stand still. Very well balanced jet. Regards Morne

Hi, I may be wrong, but i do not think the real f86 had polish alluminium finish like Patel's f86... Will be interesting to know. Regards Morne

Hi, I checked manual. It states 340 - 360mm. Maybe you have the 1st sample manual. Start with 350mm. It will be safe. Then move for your preference. Regards Morne

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hi, There is no structural problems with the Viper. There is only one surface that the customer have to fit. This surface is the rudder. We assume that must pilots/builders know how to hinge and glue a rudder. But it seems that some think it is ok if the hinges are not supported by the structure. I do not think any person will glue unsupported hinges even on a 40 size trainer. Why do it on a Jet? I agree on cockpit area - but thats it! Hardly anything to do with structure... The 1st few Vipers had no hard points. But that were corrected long time ago... There is simply no better flying jet in the world for double the money...ask those who actually fly them. Regards Morne

RE: Skymaster F-86 1/5 first products
Hi, I have cut a hatch on 1 side. I use the steel wire through gun holes to secure hatch. So can not see when done. It is difficult to remove canopy with plumbing installed. So a hatch is a must to access all fittings... The other side will have the gun installed. Regards Morne

Hi Scot, Did you manage to fly your Sabre? Here is link to video. Sorry for low resolution but you can see it can land in 100m. I tested the slats and speed brake. Very effective. Model very stable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H_a-6ogCp8 Regards Morne

RE: Another new F100, Skymaster
Hi, Skymaster release jets that fly great. The F100 is a relatively small jet to incorporate slats. I can remember the very scale BVM F100 around 18kg. The SM F100 around 14kg. This will make a huge difference in take off and landing speed. So not need slats to improve landing. On larger jets like 1/5 F86 the extra weight for 4 servo's and construction not really a factor. RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hi Matt, You are 100% correct. We have found that some glue the pin hinge sticking far out of the LE and TE. You need to cut away the hinge sealing gap so the rudder can be glued closer to the fin post. there should be no play side to side on pin hinges. The whole hinge must be supported by glue. Cutting slots in rudder will do the trick. Thanks for posting Matt. I will add this in manual. Remember flutter will bend steel. There is no structure strong enough when flutter starts. Regards Morne

RE: Skymaster F-86 1/5 first products
Hi Scott, I assume you have manual? You will see that i have 1.2 kg nicads installed around inlet and UAT is next to nose leg. I did not add extra weight. But my F86 is still white and not painted. So i do not know if paint on the tail will make it tail heavy. I still have to install the guns so this can counter for some weight. The flaps is perfect. You can take off and land with 30 degrees. Start there and then change as required. Regards Morne

RE: Skymaster F-86 1/5 first products
Hi Scott, NO. They go up and down. Did you install the internal or external pushrod? If installed the internal make sure the aileron horn with link can go into wing when pulling. You need to clear some balsa around this area on trailing edge of wing. Also use a Hangar9 current meter to check if the servo is binding or not. Regards Morne

RE: Skymaster F-86 1/5 first products
Hello, Just to report on miaden. It seems that the larger the better. What an absolute joy to fly. Like i say i have 3 Sabres and this one beat them all. Not 1 click trim needed. No pitch change with flaps. It simply just on rails. Likai you are the man!!! Out of box no problem. Scale brakes perfect. Anton - all the testing and changing was worth it. Customers will be very happy with flying characteristics. I almost want to say it flies better than Viper - but then again they all fly great. Maiden : Skymaster 1/5 Sabre Jetcat P160 Dry Weight 17kg CG 360mm with full UAT. Regards Morne

RE: Skymaster F-86 1/5 first products
Oliver There are some things i do not understand and i want you to explain to me. According to our records at Skymaster you have never received nor order a 1/5 F86. But on this threat you are making suggestions of final weight and possible structural failure. You even said you write an artice for RCJI on modification needed on 1/5 Sabre. We will contac John at RCJI because we are very curious about your article, since you have not even seen the subject. Please supply us with the serial number of your Skymaster 1/5 Sabre. Then you state you have not yet start building.... We value all inputs from our customers but i do not think this is the case here. I have never owned a Skygate Hawk and would not even consider posting on a public forum about possible structural failures due to their single main spar design. It is simply not on. I will post the pictures of test flying. Total weight 17kg. Regards Morne

RE: Skymaster T33B Test Flight Complete
Hi, Skymaster produced this model already last year. Anton has test fly and redesign and test fly and redesign the T33 untill he was happy with the performance of this model. It is very important that the model must be as light as possible and that no extra weight is needed for CG. The wing profiles were also changed to make sure you have great flying and landing characteristics. I know from flying a bvm t33 df it was very difficult to get the landings just perfect. Maybe i was still a rookie then [:D]. The SM T33 lands very slowly and i think the good wing loading is a big factor. So when you spend that hard earned dollars be assure that you will receive a well deisgn and well tested model that will work out of the box. Regards Morne

RE: Skymaster F-86 1/5 first products
Hi, I received 1/5 pro f86 all white. Installed 12 x 8511 servo's + 3 electronic valves + cockpit + 16kg turbine + JR DSM J 4 receiver system + powerbox + 3 NIcads: 17kg dry! Sliding canopy + speed brakes + slats + doors operational.. Drop tanks + paint + machine guns + speedbrake interier not installed. I think it should be under 20kg with all the bells and whistels...
