RE: GreatPlanes RV-4 ARF someone for info?
Mine was a very sweet flying plane that I was bored with after the first season. I decided that it needed more power than a .91 Two or Four stroke's could muster (tried both). I slipped a YS 1.10S into the cowl. It was a match made in heaven. I had about 40 flights on it with the YS, untill one day at a IMAA flyin I decided to do a low level WOT pass with the YS. The 15-8 APC spinning @ 10,000+ static was too much for the airframe to handle. The Horizontall stab departed the fuse on both side, and completely seperated. This happened about 20' of the deck. Here is some pitures of the after math. After I considered the magnatude of the inflight failure, and the condition of the plane when I got it back on the ground, I consider myelf very lucky.[:D]

RE: Mamba Max Pro and Lipo's....good place to purchase?
I just bought My Mamba Max Pro @ my local Shop for $129.00. I agree on the HobbyCity Lipo's though, as I was just suckered into 2 more at the Shop. $60.00 for Tenergy 5000 Mah 20C 2S. I kicked my self in the arse all the way home. Next time I am ordering Zippi's from HobbyCity though.[;)] Even if I bought 5, and one was a dud. I would still be ahead for the same money.[;)]

RE: vxl motor, mamba esc on 4s?
My new Mamba Max Pro is made for up to 6S, and does have a switching Bec that allows you to select your Bec Voltage. I bought it to use for Racing in a Mod Slash Class. I will only be running 2S with a Velinion. I bought it because of all the adjustability, and the fact that I can also just drop in a sensored motor if I want too.[:D][:D]

RE: Material for filling aluminum gouge
JB weld will work for that. The surface has to be very clean. I would also lightly sand the area that has to be filled. Before it is 100% set up, you can shape it with a razor blade. I have used it several times in non stressed area's with no problems.

RE: Blitz, SC10, Slash, or Strike?
I had my hands on the Orange/Black Blitz tonight, but could not pull the trigger since I was running short on time. The love the Tire's and rims on it though, since they are by far the most realistic of any of them out so far. I myself race a Tricked out Slash in the Open Class against SC10's, (2) Striker, and a whole lot of Slash's. The Slash's are hands down the most durable truck out there in my opinion. There does not seam to be much of a difference when they are all set-up properly as far as handling is concerened at the Club level.

Some fly in's for next year are allready advertising 2.4 only for next year. I made the switch 1-1/2 years ago with three planes and will never go back. No pins, no hassles. You cannot beat in with my installations.[;)] I think it is much safer than 72 since you do not have to worry about someone shooting down by turning on a radio.[;)]

RE: OS-81a Engine question
ORIGINAL: ebenl I own a os 82a and a72a and 2 55axs. my 82 is pulling a GP matt chapman cap 50 size very nicely. it is reliably and power is between siato and ys .it was swinging a 14x 6 prop comfortably at 9000 prm,a 55ax is 12x6 max.i have switched to 13x8 prop for more speed.my plane hardly needs cleaning ,it does what they say.Idel was a problem but is fine now .It needs to well ventilated, gets hot.planning to get a110a with pump to repace ys 110.siato,s are no good for 3d but exceellent for scale.72a is going into 50size pitts.Cannot afford any deadsticks. My 55ax tends to lean out in flight, good engine tho
Its power maybe similar to a YS .63, but it sure the hell is not anywere near as powerfull as a YS 1.10S, because they will easily spin a APC 16-6 or 15-8 @ 10,000. OS does not make a Four stroke that can come anywere near equal to a YS. You can compare the OS .91 Surpass or the New .81 to a YS .63 though.[;)]

RE: OS-81a Engine question
ORIGINAL: ameyam The only reason I stated 5% is to keep nitro content conservative and engine life maximum. I could go for 10% provided it doesnt hurt the engine What I am asking is which of them is better from engine life and performance point of view Ameyam
They both are going to last just as long as each other in all practical ways, and the .55 will out perform the .81 in all out power.[:D][:D] The .55 will also be cheaper on fuel too, since it will run fine on 5%, while the .81 will require more nitro.

RE: OS-81a Engine question
ORIGINAL: ameyam OK, this is confusing... I am not going the gas way anyway Saito is very good....I can obtain them. I am limited to OS, Thunder Tiger and Magnum (and its clones), In fact, I am worrying about going the 4C way, having only used 2C so far. So it comes down to 55AX v/s 81A v/s 61FX. Request to clarify on the better Ameyam
Going with a Two stroke will be the way to go in my opinion, because you stated 5% Nitro.[X(] The OS .81 or for that matter any of the 4 strokes that you mentioned will not run very well at all on 5%. You would need 10% Min and up for decent performance. The two stroke on the other hand will run fine on it.[;)] Straight from Tower Hobbies REQUIRES: Fuel: 10%-20% nitromethane with 18% lubricant. Synthetic, castor, or a synthetic/castor lubricant blend may be used. NOTE: Certain four-cycle fuels cannot be used due to low oil content. However, SOME four-cycle fuels such as the Wildcat 4-Cycle 15% (CATP9109) may be used due to its 18% oil content.

RE: OS-81a Engine question
ORIGINAL: Broken Wings
ORIGINAL: NM2K While OS is building spectacular glow four-strokes and selling them at ridiculously high prices, Saito is quietly converting their line of engines to gas/oil burning four-strokes. So which way do I go? Me? I'm going with gas/oil burning engines. I'd rather buy an expensive engine that burns inexpensive fuel, than an expensive engine that burns expensive fuel. I really like both OS and Saito brands. Each has its shining star points, IMHO. However, since I'm just an old man that likes to sport fly, I have no need for the absolutely most powerful engine these days. On the other hand, saving a few dollars on fuel is always a welcome practice. For the moment, I'll stick with the expensive Saito gas/spark conversions. Ed Cregger
Ed, Are you running any of these engines? There are a couple guys at my field that run various “purpose built two stroke gasoline engines and I’ll tell you it’s no picnic for them. I can just imagine a miniature Saito gas engine. It sounds great in theory but do they really work as well as an OS on glow fuel? I’ll wait and see… You have even said “Run 12 gallons through the engine and get back to me… The guys at my field are constantly making adjustments, “it’s too rich, it’s too lean, the plug fouled, I got gas with alcohol in it, I had to go to the Port and buy marine gas because they sell gas without alcohol, the alcohol ruined the pump diaphragm. On and on. I’ve never seen so many pit area run-ups. I’m using this kind of oil for break-in then I switch to this kind of oil for general purpose flying. Maybe they don’t know what they’re doing but they all have been flying a lot longer than I have. One fellow with a beautiful Aeroworks edge had his muffler come lose. Without the necessary back pressure of the muffler, the engine idled up and he couldn’t land his plane. He had to tool around for 30 minutes until it ran out of gas so he could dead stick the model and land. (I nice relaxing day at the field…Smiles) He decided he needed to purchase a remote kill switch. They tell me. You’ll see, you’ll switch to gasoline. The price of glow fuel will convert you. A gallon of glow fuel is still a lot cheaper than 9 holes of golf, live bait for a days fishing, scuba diving or any other hobby that I’ve participated in. I’m an old man as well. It’s nice to only have to bend a knee “ONCE and start an OS engine, taxi out and fly my model. (Read the Saito FG-20 thread in the gas forum) Just my opinion…
There you go again talking about your OS's.[8|] You really need to take your blinders off, and realize there are alot of reliable engines out there other than OS.[;)] Obviously your gas fliers in the club are not very experienced either.[8|] Every engine out there is only as reliable as the operator twisting the needles. The saito's are probaly the best four stroke on the market for Sport flying due to simplicity, weight and power with easy tuning. Os's also tune equally as easy, are heavier, and far more expensive, and will not live anywere near as long, since all Saito's run a Hard Chrome Plate Bore with a ring. For True performance, YS's are in a leauge of there own though.

This is the reason I suggested the Cline. The Cline has a Reputation that works along with awesome support. I had never heard enough about the Iron Bay to ever chance buying it. The Clines work awesome, better than any Perry Pump could ever think of working.
