I have used stall strips of sharp triangles next to the wing root with good luck. Tape on to see first.

RE: TF FW190 GIANT ARF
I feel your pain Telemaster. I had a doctor that would do both of my knees at the same time. One big ouch for sure....but it is the best thing I have ever did for my body. Pain free walking after twenty years of hurts. I was on a cane before I went in. Just take your pain meds. :) Now my hips are starting???? OK guys, I flew the 190 and like all the rest she flies solid. I think that thick airfoil makes her a little slower then the Mustang that I am use too. My flaps drop down a full 2 1/4" and I have a little 1/16 down trim on the elevator and at 1/4 throttle the decent down to runway was solid. I try to fly short finals. Those long ones seem to get me in trouble. After reading some posts on here I added more "up" elevator and feel it is needed. Pulling some "up" for a flare wheel landing I added more power as she slows down in a hurry as I got "that sinking feeling right above the runway". She is not a slick bird as the Mustang with that big round cowl holding her back. Turned out good for the one flight only. DA 50 with Carbon fiber prop 22-10

RE: Wow Vulcan low passes from above perspective - VID
I was a private pilot flying out of the Omaha Nebraska airport in a Piper 180 and the tower was giving me vectors away from the airport and NOT the way I wanted to go as I wanted to head back to the west and was about to raise the mike to my lips to inform the tower of my intentions when low-and-behold right along side me heading in the opposite direction about a mile away was a Vulcan in British colors with the big circle on the wings. He had just taken off of Offit AFB. I think this was in the early 70's.

If you are going to use a rattle can buy one of those handles with a trigger that goes over the top of the spary can button. Makes it so much nicer to use them rather then always useing your one finger to press the can button down.

RE: That nasty AT-6 Bounce
they are only good for about 15 degrees so I have to cut back some wood to allow more travel. Thanks for everyones suggestions in this thread, helps a lot. Bingo.....People talk about full flap landings and when I look at their plane I see what I would call half flap....or LIFTING flap settings. The GS P-51 instructions call for 2 1/4" drop for full flaps. If I can't get 3" I start cutting wood away to get it. The plane has no lift when it touches the hard surface runway at about any reasonable landing speed. It is all done flying. One time I mistakely only used half flap and bounced down the runway. That made a believer out of me then. Also full flaps forces you to use power all the way down to touchdown. AND I never try to land on the very start of the runway....but fifty ft past the end....I don't want to land short and have to try to stretch it.

RE: Maj. Woody's Top Flight Giant Corsair ARF
Wow, thanks for the very nice pictures of your new war bird. I was getting worried about not reading about you in the jet section. Anyway's it is always nice to follow along with whatever you fly. May I suggest something in your engine install? With that big front opening on the Corsair you might not need it?? But, anytime I use a rear exhaust OR a wrap around muffler that comes under the carburetor I place a lite tin (roof flashing) shield between the two held in place with zip ties around the engine standoffs. Tightly cowled engines like the P-51 it sure makes things run strong the whole flight. And start easier if you want to restart right away for another flight. Jim

Had a fried that bought the Space Control brick and I remember how we marveled over it's operation...even if it was a little slow. :) This friend installed this "brick" in a new Smog Hog with a big K&B 45 in the nose and took off and made a couple of circles around the field and lost all control and the Hog flew off over the city....never to be seen again. I think they cost six hundred bucks at that time?? Jim

RE: Bob Dunhams first radio
Thanks for posting this very interesting history about Bob Dunham. Is he still alive? Out here in the boom-docks we only read about these guys in the magazines....but never knew the real story about them. I remember the Aertrol system even though I never bought one at the time. Twenty nine dollars was too much for me at that time. But, later I did own just about every Orbit radio that came out. In a house that that I now rent out the Orbit address for repair is still written on the wall above my old work table. I started with the single channel out fit then the 3+1 and reeds and still have the 7-14 radio. From Orbit I was a loyal fan of JR for many years. Jim
ORIGINAL: rcsportflyer26 Mine is from BestPilots.com  I got the unpainted version of Bob Sweeny and our club pres.. did me the honor and painted it. He did an amazing job. BTW, the painted version from the website is $195.00 plus shipping..
Let me give you a "heads-up" on that Bob Sweeny pilot we both have. Great looking pilot.....but after about twenty fights in my GS TF P-51 he broke off his head by the shoulders and bounced around at a warbird show I was attending. This did not make me very happy when I paid this much for a pilot. The pilot is light weight and very thin in the neck area. Had to take off my glued and screwed nice canopy and unscrew him from the seat back. I took a dowel and stuck up in his head and sillconed that in overnight while upside down in my little vice. Next day I used that expandable foam and about filled his body (light weight) with this and stuck the dowel down into that stuff. Looks and feels solid now. IF....... I get another new pilot I will cut a hole in his bottom and fill with foam, hopeing to enforce the neck area. My plane uses a DA 50 with a well balanced carbon prop so that is not the problem. Good luck.

RE: AMSOIL SABER 100:1 PRE MIX SYNTHETIC 2-CYCLE OIL AND AMSOIL QUICK SHOT FUEL ADDITIVE
ORIGINAL: gade600sdi Don't listen to Jloftin above about mixing it at 50:1 or 30:1!!!!! You can not I have made that mistake its not an oil to mix rich it won't work you will have black crap thats nearly impossible to remove from your covering and you will carbon up and stick rings losing compression (I had to put a new ring in a almost new Zenoah due to it and gummed up another motor using this stuff at 32:1), its only made to run at 100:1 if you mix it richer I would not go any richer than 80:1. Other oils you can mix richer (Stihl Ultra HP highly recommended after bad experience with Amsoil) As for using it at 100:1 I cant comment never have done it and he may be right you may get away with it but I will let others experiment with that.
Yes I do agree with this comment....been there done that! For the last few years running a DA 50 and DLE's I have gone back to what I have run in my chain saws and weed whackers without any troubles for many years......just plain old "Stinl"l mixed 40:1. At the last warbird fly-in guys were asking me, " what you got in there for a motor...man that thing runs perfect".

As a OS Engine lover I guess I will have to say I didn't like my OS 95V. Like some has said on here the pressure line came off and two dead stick landins were the result with the last one crashing a nice scale airplane. The engine even backfired and tossed the prop spinner to add insult. I have four OS 91's and love them all but will never by another 95. For some reason I never could tune the needle valve mixture like I always have. This one goes to the club auction this winter!

RE: Are Zap Adhesives Worth the Extra $$$?
Ya I hear ya,.... I only buy the thirty dolloar bottles as that is enough for me and I do have the cheaper stuff on my building table.....but if I really need to hold something like the hardwood standoffs/strap gear door attachment onto my warbird so they don't move...I don't use the cheap stuff. ok And epoxy is worthless for this job as I am glueing hardwood with a cut down zip tie screwed into the hard wood and CA'ed to the metal Robart gear. Ya, I know about the stand offs they sell. So one of those $60 bottles would last me for six months.

For years I always tried to buy Goldberg CA and liked that the best. It was hard to find so would use the Hobby Town house brand when I had too. Last summer I had a friend loan me some new CA called, "The Last Glue." Wow, fantastic stuff. It will bond anything....right now! But, it is very expensive...but I like it good enough I will pay the price for a vey secure joint. Check it out at this link.... RE: spektrum vs JR
ORIGINAL: rcjets_63 Lightningmcnulty, I will post the results of the R1221 DSM2 and R1221X flights. I just ordered the R1221X so I may have it by next weekend if UPS Ground gets it here on time. I'm not worried about the radio taking a c*** during mid-flight. It's been my experience that electronics either fail right away (infant mortality) or last a long time (assuming you treat them right). A case in point was the AR9020 receiver that came with my DX18. It lasted about 2 minutes before failing. That's why we bench test and foamie flight test new components prior to them ever seeing a jet. Regards, Jim
Yes, I do the same thing by putting a new radio and servo's in a cheap simple low wing airplane before I put it in the good warbirds. BUT, it not always works that way because.... I bought a new Futaba 14 and spent the fall season testing it out. All worked really good. Took it out of the test plane and into a full blown warbird useing all 14 channels and the after programing the transmitter (many hours over a JR) the memory chip would lose everything about the third time you turned it off. A real pain! It took two trys and a couple of unhappy phone calls into the Futaba repair station to get them to realize they had to do a full program to get it to fail. It's a nice radio but I wouldn't want another as I don't like being a Windows programer.
