RE: Top Flite B 25 Mitchell
Hi Airnuts, Wingspan has some really nice pilot figs in 1/9th scale. A little on the high dollar side but they would look real good in the cockpit. Almost anything would look better than what came with the kit. I was thinking about pilot busts in the cockpit and a full figure in the nose compartment. Mike

What a great job of building. All undone by a bit of lead falling off. I'm sure the next one will be even better than the first. Keep building! Mike

Heading out around noon, should be there around 2. Bringing my BUSA D-7. This is the first time that I have flown anywhere other than my home field since 1987! Staying for the weekend and am looking forward to it. Mike

Tom, Do you think your reenforcing plate will work for the plastic gear in the other Top-Flite ARF's like the Mustang or P-47? Mike

RE: DYNAFLITE PT-19 ENGINE????
Hi Mitchsnap, I've been flying my Dynaflite PT-19 for about 3 years now with a Magnum 1.2 four-cycle turning a 16-6 Master airscrew prop. This setup has more than enough power for that airplane. Not sure how much it weighs, never bothered to check, did not have to add any weight for CG either. Mike

RE: Future of 72Mhz
I was not aware that that the 72 Mhz band had been abandoned by TV broadcasting. The change was in the modulation method, from analog to digital, not the frequencies in use. Then again, I hav'nt been paying that much attention to the issue. Mike

RE: Dynaflite bashing
Hi Jim, I've been flying my PT-19 for about 2 years now. She is powered by a Magnum 120 4-stroke and flies scale plus a little bit more. Not under powered by any means. If I was going to go gas on this model, I think I would go with a 26cc. The model has a nice long nose forward of the cg and even with the 120 up front, she wants to nose over every now and again, with a 38 up front, some tail weight would be in order (I think). As they say around here, "your mileage my vary". This winter season I am going to strip the old covering off and recover with sig coveral and dope. Keeping the same yellow and blue colors and maybe a new cowl from fiberglass specialists. Wish they would re-release this kit, its a sweet flying ship and I would not mind building another. Mike

RE: Top Flite B-25 ARF (Tecnical, tips, suggestions)
Hi Tim. I've used "foam safe" ca on my canopies and it worked out good. Also use RC-560. One thing I always forget is when I glue something in the cockpit area is to wait a while before gluing the canopy. Glued the pilot of my TF P-51 AFT in with medium CA. Then glued the canopy on. Long story short, it looks like his defrost/defog is broke. Mike Callahan

RE: Fiberglassing disaster
Hello Tim Jeff Leo and all. I had much the same experience the first time I tried the sealer/minwax method that Tom used on his SBD but I think I know what is causing it and might have a solution. It is my theory that the sealer for a lack of a better word was not fully cured. I only waited a day or so between the last coat of sealer and applying the cloth/minwax. The sealer was applied outside (my that stuff gets to you quick if you are dumb enough to use it inside) and the minwax/cloth was done inside the next day. The next available day I applied the first coat of primer. I have to paint outside so the weather was nice bright sunshine and about 80 degrees. When the primer was dry I started to notice the bubbles (more like blisters). My thought is that the sealer began to out gas when the heat from the sun got to it. Being trapped between the wood and the cloth it had no place to go except to raise those dang bubbles. The second attempt was with a Skyshark ME-109G. Same materials, same prep work. Except I waited a full week between the last coat of sealer and the application of the cloth/minwax. I also waited another week between the last coat of minwax and the primer coat. Final color coats were about two weeks later (Warbird Colors RLM 74, 75, and 76). I have not yet flown the plane but she sat out in the sun at the flying field for about 7 hrs with no sign of bubbles/blisters. I am going to try and prove my theory with a Don Smith A-26 that I am getting ready to start on. I'll let you all know how it comes out. Mike

My first warbird was a Pica T-28. 65" span. Had a como .75 2 stroke engine, flaps but had fixed gear. That was in 1987. Mike

RE: TF P-51 .60 ARF Maiden Flight,Reports here.
I'm on my second set of those dang plastic gear. 1st set out of the box and Hobbico sent me the second set. My second set looks like the ones in your pictures. Smooth blacktop runway. The landing was not a grease job but it was as close as I usually get. Going with Robart 605hd's. The plane is too big to hand launch and flys too good to be left on the bench. Mike

RE: Difference between TF P 51D 1/7 Arf & Nesxtar Select
Nothing flys better than a Mustang but, not as your second model. For all the reasons already listed plus the transistion from trike gear to tail dragger. Go ahead and get the Mustang if your budget will support it, keep it on the shelf for inspiration, read through the manual. I have had one for about a month and she flys like a dream, but its not a Sig Kavalier. So get some low wing time, get some conventional gear time (tail dragger) then go for the P-51. Mike
