RE: Anyone Running Drag Cats Or Drag Hydros?
Scrapping the Drag Boat project for now as I just picked up a 48" Mahogany Thunderboat on the cheap (real cheap). It has a stock 23cc Zen in it now but I will probably change that out for a 7.5hp RCMK 29.5cc full race mod. The only things it needs to get running is prop and receiver battery. I will post pictures once it is on the water. MadDog

Anyone Running Drag Cats Or Drag Hydros?
Just about to start a Drag Hydro project. Going with a HyperPerformance 48" Drag Hydro Hull and will use an RCMK K600 57cc Inline Twinn for the power plant (gotta love 14hp). There is not a drag division at my local club, but I want a little change from going in circles. If anyone has a Drag Hydro or Drag Cat, please post pictures so I can see how you set yours up. MadDog

RE: custom HDPE (plastic) fuel tanks
Ryan, I have a just built, never run, 44" Conquest Cat coming next week. The guy that built it installed an IV bag for the fuel tank. I will take measurements when it gets here so you can build me a tank. I much prefer a hard tank over the IV bag if not for the simple fact that you do not have to burp it when filling. I also think your tank would be much more durable and last longer then a bag. I also want to check to see if he has the CG right and proper tank placment will help also. MadDog

RE: Aquacraft Revolt 30
I got the 4750/2 prop from a friend who races with a local club here in CO. He had two, one on his boat and a spare so he gave up the spare. I have no idea where he purchased it from. MadDog

RE: Which boat would you get?
I picked up a Revolt 30 RTR and out of the box I am getting 45 mph. Actually out of the box it ran in the high 30's but a friend gave me another prop to try out and now it does 45mph according to my Garmin. I was in the same position with not enough time to build my own. If he only has 20 or so minutes every now and then to toss the thing in a pond and run some laps, think how long he would have to wait to enjoy his home made boat if the little time he had was used for building. I am looking for longer run times and already have a 1/5 scale Baja SC truck with an OBR full mod 29.5cc long rod motor so I am very familiar with gassers. I am going to go with the old Thunderboat style. Set up as a gasser I will be able to run 30 to 45 minutes on a tank. Now the challange is to find an RTR that is well made. JMHO, MadDog

RE: Where Should My Center Of Gravity Be?
I got a prop from Chris that he sharpened and balanced for his Revolt 30. It is a 47x50 and I believe the stock prop is a 42x55. Not positive about those sizes but my GPS shows a definite increase in speed. Dan

RE: Where Should My Center Of Gravity Be?
Well, it looks like I got the CG correct. Runs like a dream WOT. Very stable and fast, nose comes up so the last 1/3 of the boat is in the water but will not get airborn and will turn on a dime on command. My only goof up today was that I ran it WOT until the batteries were depleted which caused the batt / ESC wires to get so hot they melted some of the floatation noodles I had stuffed down the sides. Next time if I run WOT it will be for 6 minutes max. MadDog

Anyone Have an Enforcer "Stingray" Thunderboat?
I just got into boats and have two 30" deep V's. One electric and one nitro. I really dislike the nitro as it is messy and tempermental and therefore run the electric most of the time. I currently have it clocked at 43.1mph but now want to get into a larger faster boat. I have always like the looks of the old Thunderboat class and want to go with a gasser. I have vase experience with 1/5 scale Bajas (currently running OBR 27.2cc reed port, BZM Micro 28.5cc reed port, & OBR full mod 29.5cc long rod engines) so a gasser Thunderboat would be perfect. I do no not have the time to build my own so I am looking for an RTR or almost RTR. For the money the Enforcer "Stingray" looks to be a good buy but I have no experience with Enforcer boats. Anyone running a Stingray that can give me a little insight about the company? Thanks, MadDog

RE: Anyone Have an Enforcer "Stingray" Thunderboat?
If I get the racing bug I will probably just use the Revolt 30 I have which does make class and maybe get another large scale later on down the road. Do you know which builders of Thunder Boats does meet NAMBA or IMBA specs? But again, anyone have an Enforcer Stingray? MadDog

RE: I Will Ask Again..........Any GOOD Large Scale Electrics Out There???
Keith: I Googled Keith Bradley and not much came up. A few pictures of your work and some Youtube videos of them running but nothing on how to order, pricing, types of builds, web site, etc. Can you send me an Email with details of your builds? I run 1/5 scale Bajas and have vast experience with gassers (currently have OBR 27.2cc reed port, BZM 28.5cc reed port, and OBR full mod 29.5cc long rod engines) and am leaning towards a gas boat but large scale electric boats still peak my interest and I could easilly be swayed over to the electric side. RE: Where Should My Center Of Gravity Be?
srt10: I thought about the prop but the boat was very stable with the weight of the Garmin in front of the Lipos. The problem started when I removed the Garmin. I have shifted the Lipos forward changing the CG and will test it out tomorrow. I will report back after tomorrows run. MadDog

Where Should My Center Of Gravity Be?
I originally set my Revolt 30 up with a rather heavy Garmin GPS in front of the batteries so I could see which prop would give me the most mph. Now that I have chosen a prop which works quite well I took the Garmin out. Went to run the boat today and noticed a little problem. It runs smooth and true at half throttle but when running WOT the bow gets a little too light and the whole boat rocks violently from side to side. If I don't back off on the throttle it will get airborn. Before I adjust the plane tabs in the back I thought I would find out if my CG was even close to where it should be. On a 30" hull without the Garmin weighing the front down my CG was about 8" from the stern. I decided to shift the batteries forward in the tray and now the CG is 9 1/2" from the stern. I will test it out tomorrow but just wanted to ask if there was a general rule where the CG should be? Thanks in advance for your help, MadDog

RE: I Will Ask Again..........Any GOOD Large Scale Electrics Out There???
Don't have the time to build my own. My plate is pretty full when it comes to time off so I would rather fork over $1,600 to $1,800 for something that suits my needs out of the box (RTR) and it looks like the Fine Design Boats fit the bill perfectly. ETA: have you seen some of the Fine Design boats? Generally you can build something much better then what you get RTR but in this case Chris' boats that I am looking at are pretty hard to improve on. I may be able to save $200 to $300 doing it myself but my time is worth more then that to me. MadDog

RE: Aquacraft Revolt 30
Foamaholic: I believe the stock prop is a 42x55 and I changed it out for a 47x50. A friend had the extra prop and said it would give me a few more mph without putting a strain on the motor or overheating it. He was correct. I may be able to tweek it a little (by playing with the trim tabs) to get an even 44mph out of it but I think that is going to be the ceiling. I also noticed the cooling tubing was pinched down a little where it both enters and exits the hull. I took a couple of small pieces of aluminum tubing that was the perfect diameter and glued them into the entrance and exit points. The silicone cooling tubing now plugs into the aluminum tubing and allows as much water to flow as possible. MadDog

Changed the prop out today and scuffed the bottom a little on my Revolt 30 and picked up another 8 mph. Ran 43.1 mph (according to my Garmin) on 4s 40c Lipos. MadDog

RE: I Will Ask Again..........Any GOOD Large Scale Electrics Out There???
doby: I have googled them. What have you found out about them that I haven't besides a couple complaints of slow shipping and a couple people said he was rude to them? I have called him a couple of times and he answerede the phone both times after a couple of rings. We talked for about a half hour each time. If I did not say I had to go and hang up the phone, I would still be talking with him to this very day. His advice turned out to be spot on and I am definitely going to give him a try with my next purchase. MadDog

RE: I Will Ask Again..........Any GOOD Large Scale Electrics Out There???
Well, I think I have found what I am looking for. I just got off the phone with Chris Fine from Fine Design Boats out of NY. He has some RTR 45" electric cats with 10hp motors that will run 70mph out of the box on two 5s Lipos. I also just saw a write up on one of his cats in RC Boat magazine which Chris claimed will do 60mph (8hp electric motor) out of the box. The testers at RC Boat Magazine clocked it at 64mph so I guess Chris' claims are true. Pricing isn't bad for an RTR with this quality and power. With two 5s Lipos and truely RTR will cost me $1,600 which is within my budget. Be on the lookout for some photos I will post as soon as I have one of his creations in my hands, MadDog

I Will Ask Again..........Any GOOD Large Scale Electrics Out There???
I know this has been asked before but nobody came up with much. Anyone know of any GOOD large scale RTR electric boats out there in the 50" on-up range? Everyone I talk to says to stay far away from the new Atomic coming out but nobody seems to have a good alternative. I have been thinking of getting an 1/8 scale gasser Thunderboat (the kind that was popular in the late 60's early 70's) but want to exhause my "electric" possibilities before I just to the dark side. RE: Atomik ARC 58
srt10: I will be out at the Weld County Building pond this Sunday at noon with my Revolt 30 and my Nitro mono that Chris built for me. Last night I found my Garmin GPS that I never use so I guess it will now live in my Revolt so I can see just how fast these really are. I will be at that gravel pile near the pond at 10:00 running my HPI Baja as I just swapped the powerplant out for an OBR 29.5cc full mod long rod. Speaking of larger boats, since there are no real good large scale electrics, I am on the lookout for a largeThunderboat class gasser. Chris tells me there are three of you in your club interested in the Thunderboat class but it takes four club members to make up a class. If I can find a used one I will buy it and join your club. RE: Miss geico Water issue.
Simple to check. Pull the cooling line from the top of the rudder nipple, insert a spray nozzle hose from a can of WD40 in the end of the cooling line, spray WD40 until it circulates completely and comes out the exit line. If the water jacket has a leak you will see WD40 dump into the hull right away. Dan
