RE: SAVOX Servos
Hi. Torque and speed is one thing that is always stated in the specification, and is always quoted for comparison. But how about accuracy, (precision, deadband and repeatability), how do these servos compare to equivalent futaba and JR servos? Magne

RE: Pilot Yak conversion
I think that the 259kv will require a fairly small propeller, which may not be the best combination with the relatively large radial cowl on the Yak 54. Magne

RE: Measure the length of a pattern plane
ORIGINAL: nonstoprc Received the height info for Chris for the 82mm MarQuet spinner. It is 73.5mm. 8.5mm more than what is ideal. Too bad.
I think the FAI rules allow up to 1% deviation, to take away any inconsistencies in calibration. (Same with weight, 1% allowance.) So if you like gambling.... Magne

RE: aerobatic full scale airfoil
ORIGINAL: speedracerntrixie Roberto, it all depends on what you want to do with the model. If you just want scale appearence then I say go for it. If you want a true flying model that is capable of competing in IMAC then you will have a poor flying airplane.
True. But if he wants a good IMAC model then a true scale model would not be the best choice anyway. Magne

RE: How to apply carbon veil?
Since I don't plan to get into vacuum bagging yet, it looks like it's back to glass cloth.
Now that's a relief. For a moment I was worried that you were going to put your whole fuselage into a vacuum bag and compress the whole thing. [:o] (Would take up a lot less space in the bin, though.) [8|] Magne

RE: carbon fiber canopy
Hello. That canopy is fine and will be super strong. But if you want a smooth, glossy outer surface on the canopy, then you should treat the INSIDE of the original canopy with release wax and lay up the carbon on the INSIDE of the original. Magne

RE: Convert Millimeters to Degrees
You need to divide the throw (eg. 20mm) by the chord of the aileron (eg. 80mm) and take the inv. sin to that number. (e,g, 20/80=0.25 sin-1 0.25=14 deg.) Magne

RE: Pattern maneuver geometry
Should the loop be flown as close to round as possible, perceived from the ground?
No, it should be round. Same as a 45° line should be at 45° both at the center and anywhere else in the box. Seen from the center it may look steaper further out to the sides. The judges have to compensate for this, not the pilot. Magne

RE: 18x18 - 20x20 prop 10,000 rpm
Neu offer the P62 gearbox (Super Heavy Duty) for the 22-series with various gear ratios, 3.7, 4.2, 5.2 and 6.7. All other than 6.7:1 are "special order". And for the 10-16 kW needed to do the specified job, the 2230 would be required. (And a DA85 or ZDZ 90 would not be able to spin a 20x20 at 10000 rpm.) Magne

RE: Ribs for tapered wings
Of course, any 2D or 3D drawing or modelling package can be used. But for a simpler approach: 1. Draw one of the profiles on a sheet of paper. 2. Put on photo copier, and use whatever scaling factor is required to give you the next rib, e.g. 110% 3. Repeat with 120% etc. 4. Cut ribs according to templates. Magne

RE: Door Skin Ply for Spars
The load in an I-beam flange is always along the beam, there is very little transverse load. So if you use plywood as the flange material, only half the wood is actually doing any useful work. Every second layer in the plywood, running across the beam, is just ballast. Magne

RE: To apply fiberglass cloth or not to a foam core wing
I think you have to be both very good at it, and spend a lot of time on it, to make a fiberglassed/painted finish lighter than a film finish. So if you mean what you said in post #10 ("trying to save every ounce i can.") then I think you shoud use film. A fiberglassed/painted surface may have some advantages, but lower weight is usually not one of them. Regards, Magne

RE: finding large aileron stock
I would not even have considered making a flap that thick out of a solid block of wood, just does not make sense. (Which is also probably why it is difficult to find in the stores, they would not sell many of them.) Just my opinion, though. Magne

RE: Plettenberg Advance 30-10 Inrunner Test Data!
When you think about it, doesn't it make sense that the prop that exhibits better down line breaking also consumes more power?
Generally a low pitch propeller will give better braking, while a high pitch propeller will consume more power. Magne
