RE: 150 meter rule.
I actually agree with flying at 150m, as if you are actually skilled you can fly fai or masters at 150m, which would seperate the men from the boys.

I'm using the neu F3A inrunner and a Jetti speed controler. There are no plans yet as there will be a new version next year which my dad might sell as a short kit.

My First Pattern Video
My dad and I went out flying yesterday and we decided to bring our camera with us and record some flights. This was my second. I'm flying my new Sting biplane electric and did this video because I've gotten several requests over the last couple months to see it fly. Make sure you watch it in HD! the music is there to block out the very distracting background conversations haha. Thank you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REJPk4cGb44

RE: Am I the only one who flies pattern with no mixes in their plane ??
I use two mixes: Down elevator on iddle and a little rudder when I add throttle. These are very small mixes though, in the 1-3% range

RE: post some pictures of your pattern plane!!
My dad and I have our own biplanes! We call them Sting Bi and they are my dads very own, cad designed pattern ships. Everything is cut out with our own cnc router. They have elevator and top wing adhedral, and are the best flying airplanes I've ever owned. My dad owns the first version, which is powered by a ys 175. It weighs approx 4900 grams. My biplane is redesigned to be light, and is powered by an electric neu f3a motor and supports 5000mah hobbyking batteries. rtf weight is approx 4150 grams :D A new full composite design is in the works...

RE: Electric Vs Engine.
Me and my dad have identical biplanes, one is electric and the other ys... When its calm, my 4150gram electric biplane is amazing. Its powered my a neu inrunner (cant remmember the specs) and I use hobby king 5000 batteries. When it gets windier, my dads ys 175cdi powered biplane is a breeze to fly. Its also very good when its calm. So my conclusion is, is that ys is better, especially the new 175, which has 150 flights so far and is incredibly reliable. In calm conditions, the electric biplane is just 1% better. The elctric biplane was just an experiment, but when we make our composite biplane for next year I'll have mine run a ys.I'm missing the ys growl when I'm flying my electric...

RE: 2 cycle engines for F3A
Forget about the os. If you want to be competitive, get a ys-160 or larger. I've been flying electric recently but I must admit my dads ys 175 is just pure awesome. Also, electric is also full of problems. I've had my electric genesis catch on fire twice now (it still lives though)

RE: Most Blatant
I have never had a problem with hk. I've bought countless of planes, and big batteries. I mean sure, they're not as good as some other retailers, but they still all perform excelentaly. When ever people complain about hk, they are just the minority, you cant excpect perfection from a company. Also saying that its hk's fault that the plane your bought came crumpled up is nonsence. Blame fed ex or ups, they handle these products without care

RE: Ideas for an intro pattern class
I think that we, the pattern guys are just too small of a community. An example of this is that why dont large manufacturers sell actual competitive pattern planes? I think that if a large company/distributor put up a 2m pattern plane that didn't cost so much we would see a large grow of participants. Just imagine if HobbyKing sold a decent sized pattern plane that flew somewhat ok and looked right. I don't agree with the club class though, because then there are already five classes and with the participation that we've had over the last couple of years, there wouldn't be alot of competition in the lower classes. I think that rather than a club class, the sportsman class should get a little easier, with shorter maneuvers (ex. a single loop rather than a double loop) and maybe one more turn around. Just my 2 cents... -Alex D8

What should I get for my first jet?
Hey guys, Im looking for a jet kit for a Jetcat P-60 engine or similar. I would like a jet that looks like a jet (so none of these trainer jets or anything like that) and one that is preferably not a twin boom so I dont catch it on fire. It can be scale or sport. I've been looking around the internet for some time, and have found some nice ones, such as this http://www.jetlegend.com/index.php?Page=33, but I want your guy's opinions and knowledge on what kind of jet I should get. I'm looking for jet kits around the 500-600$ mark, so they dont need to be outstanding. I'm a very experienced pilot and me and my dad are both great builders, and we want to take on the challenge of jets. Could you guys please help?

RE: Loooooong slooooowwwwwww rolls.....how to?
for a slow roll, I recommend you be flying fast but not full spead. You need to control the roll with rudder and elevator inputs. You will soon find that the plane will fly toward you or away from you when you are in knife edge flight during the roll, so you will need to control it with elevator during the knife edge flight. When you are flying inverted, smoothly put in elevator input, because if you just jam the elevator down there will be an obvious bump in your roll. Make sure you practice this maneuver high up the ground first, before you know how it behaves during the slow roll.

RE: F13 KE snaps
well after I do the first snap, I hold the plane in knife edge for a split second, and then I do the other reverse snap. It think there has to be a slight stop in between them so judges can see that you did them in opposite directions, but I could be wrong.

lol have you ever seen the figure M maneuver in the F3A P11 sequence. If you screw that up you dont lose a couple points but an entire plane, this I know from experience.

RE: How many years do you stay at each class and why
So far i have stayed in four out of the five classes for only one year, so one in sportsman, one in intermidiete, one in advanced, and one in fai. Because I fly with my dad, i have an excellent coach and I know fly with him in district 8. I didn't fly masters just because I wanted to compete with my dad and so we didn't have to memorize two completely different schedules.

Could our hobby be considered a Sport?
Hey guys, I'm in a little bit of a dilema right now. Since I go to high school , I have to have a certain amount of P.E. (Physical Education) credit. I used to play hockey and get my credit that way, but recently my schedule has not allowed me to play sports after school. I also can't take P.E. during school as a class because It would hinder my school and class schedule. Because I need a certain amount of P.E. credit before I graduate (I'm a sophmore right now) I was wondering wether flying competitive rc pattern could be considered a sport? If It is a sport, then I could easily rack up credit and it would look good on my high school resume. It would also give me and my dad an excuse for mom to go flying ;)

Excuse my language but fuck hobbyking. I ordered their F3P genesis last week from their USA warehouse and it didn't arrive anytime this last week.( I live in Seattle area so it should of arrived a couple days after I placed my order). So earlier this day I check out the progress on my order, and I find out that its on back order, even though when i bought it it showed a +10 in stock. I am very dissapointed in hobbyking, as I was really looking foreward to build and fly it this weekend. Oh, and they won't give me my money back. Im deffinitivly done with Hobbyking.

Another good option is a Carf Integral. You can get one for 1040$ (all white and all fiberglass) from http://carf-models.com/public_carf/pages/shop/productDetail.html?root=variant&proId=93. You can also find a ca models genesis kit for pretty cheap too (I got mine for 400$)
