RE: New bird BH P47
Well I just maiden my p-47 and it didn't go so well. The recomended cg of 110 mm is way to far back. The plane rotated off the ground before I even got past quarter throttle and it was cartoon like flying after that. I almost got it back down but stalled it 15' up. I'm going to contact hobby people to see if they know anything about the cg of this plane. Here's a pic before the maiden. mark

OK I had the wrong plane in my head. Go with a Neu 1515 2y and 9s and a 7 x 7 prop. That should get you close to what your after. Mark

RE: Need E set up for Demon
I agree with combatpig, I would recomend a neu 1115 1.5 y motor on 5s 3200 30 to 40c lipos, a castle Ice 75 amp controller and an apc 5.5 x 5.5 prop. This setup pulls only 55 to 60 amps does close to 200 in an f5d plane and should do close to 170 in a demon. Proper airflow over the motor and controller is all thats needed for cooling. This is what I would use. Mark

RE: Is wet power a dead end?
I have always liked both power systems but I havn't seen anyone mention anything about the loss of glow flying fields due to the noise factor. To me thats one of the reasons why glow is on the decline. How many people got out of this hobby becuase there local flying field got shut down. Have any of you noticed any new flying fields pop up thats electric only. Thats the future of flight these days I'm afraid. I have 3 within a 30 minute drive from my house. Having said that I dont think glow is going anywere for a long time regardless of the advances of electrics. There will always be a place for both. Mark

RE: EP LR1A Pogo
Archie, I think this is a great class your starting but I would like to give my 2C. I have been flying for 12 years now including F5D and F5B just to name a few classes. I have never been a kit builder. I think I speak for the majority of people flying these days. Most people assemble ARFS today. Very few people actually build from kits anymore. Sure it seems easy to some to build fuselages from wood and covering foam wings with balsa but not to the average Joe it doesn't. I for one will wait till you have a glass fuse. How much extra is it going to cost? Whatever it is it beats gluing wood and sanding and painting to just have a fuse that looks ugly if you never built from scratch before. Thats enough to keep me from coming out and playing. Mark

RE: Building a C160!
You need an incedence meter. hangar9 and dubro make them. You set the meter on your wing next to the fuselage and adjust the plane untill it reads 0. You then put the meter out to the wing tips and see what the meter says. You want 1/2 to 1 degree of washout on the tips. The way you get what you want if its not right is take a heat gun and twist the wing in the dirrection you want and shrink the covering untill you get the amount of washout you want. Thats about as simple as I can explain it. Someone in your club should know what I'm talking about. I do this on every plane I build and it makes for better flying airplanes. Mark

RE: Building a C160!
I think its obvious that your plane was too tail heavy.Rudder had nothing to do with your crash. My electric motors weigh almost as much as your nitro motors. In adition to that I got almost 3 lbs of batteries that go in front of the servo tray inside the plane forward of the cg. In aditione to that I got 3 ozs of lead in the nose of the plane to get the cg in the middle of were they say to ballance it out. I would think with nitro motors you would need a lot of lead in the nose to get the cg right.. My plane flys so stable and predictable after take off its sad to see how yours went. You also need to put an incedence meter on the wings tips and make sure you have wash out on both of them. Mine didn't and I had to fix that. I also put a piece of 1/8 ply under the trailing edge of the wing to get the incedence a little better as well. The plane does fly very stable if you do all of the things I mentioned above. Sorry for your loss and dont give up. Mark

RE: Building a C160!
Matador, mine tryed to yaw left as well and took a lot of right trim to correct it. My guess is your pilot wasn't prepared to deal with the out of trim conditions and didn't think to just get the plane to altitude before starting to trim the plane out. It looked to me like he let go of the elevator twice and the second time it bit him. Like posted earlier in this thread you need to put up elevator in this plane before take off. Mark

RE: Building a C160!
Matador, mine did the same thing on take off. As soon as I left the ground it wanted to dive back down but I just just kept pulling back on the elevator untill I get to 300 ft or so. Then I had to give it every bit of elevator trim to get it to fly level. It also took a bit of right trim as well to get the wings level. Its because you need a lot of up elevator for this plane that it kind of catches you by surprise. Once the plane was trimed out it flew good. Sorry about your loss. Mark

I have this same plane and just did the maiden flight. Wow does it need up elevator. Wish I would have found this thread earlier. The plane flys great and I'm very happy with it. Here's my set up. 2 Axi 2820 1200 kv motors - 2 Castle 54 amp thunderbird controllers - 2 thunder power 3s 3850 lipos - 2 Hobby Lobby 9.5 X 8.8 4 blade props pulling about 52 amps. I'll try to get some video next time out. Mark

RE: Honda HA420
I have built 2 of these and you can't setup the elevator like the instructions say to. You have to get rid of that wire and use 2 elevator servos. You will have to cut the holes for them to mount them and make sure you stagger them so they are evenly spaced under the elevator halves on each side. Its a pain to do but there's no way around it. I'll see if I have any pics when I get home. Mark

RE: Official Build Thread: Magic Hand yak 55
I have the 30% version of this plane as well. Mine came out tail heavy so I took the servos out of the tail and I only used one of them in the fuse. Here's a pick of the double pull pull mod I did. The landing gear mounts are not very strong so you will need to beef up this area. Several other people told me to do this and I didn't listen to them and guess what? My landing gear came off on about the 10th flight. Every thing else on this plane is strait forward and builds easy. The plane handles and flys great and you will not be disappointed. Mark

RE: kyosho Kelly F-1
zo6kal, I'm using a 12 oz motor with a kv of 400 and a 10s 3850 lipos. Mine is a heavy plane. That 23 oz. motor of yours is too heavy and you will find it vey difficult to ballance. Your kv is a little on the low side as well. My batteries are as far back on the battery tray as I can go so I would recomend you get the nitro version and figure it out from there to get the plane to ballance. The electric version because of the way they did the motor mount has a bad vibration that you need to fix. By this I mean you need to go up in the cowl area and carbon fiber it really good to stiffen things up a bit. This plane is also smaller than the bobcat and I would consider it to be a 6s plane for most. Spuetz, that pitch speed doesn't take into account the drag of the airplane and those wheels hanging down dont help either. I believe the plane is in the 135 to 140 mph range though. I will try to get some video of it for you guys if I can. Mark

RE: Diff oil
I converted mine over 4 years ago with a motor that you now know as a Neu 1515 1y. The power is almost to much and with the castle mamba monster it is too much. Almost. I use the oil weights already that you mentioned except I use 1000 in the rear. Would using the 3000 help me get better traction? I can spin my tires down the straits without ever really hooking up. Right now I'm running on an indoor track here in Huntington beach. I can't wait to take it to an out door track. Mark

RE: Installing the Hacker A200 Outrunner Brushless Motor for 150cc Giant Scale Planes
Saul, you cannot parallel 2 speed controlls to double the amps. The shv controllers are not available and they dont know when. You shouldn't need 300 amps continuous unless you plan to run full throttle the whole time so a 300amp spin controller would be my choice. You should try the giant electric planes forum on rc groups for more info. I think someone posted they used the DA stand offs to mount there motor. Mark

RE: Hydra 120 burnt-up
For those of you who have never raced a boat. In oval racing we only use full throttle the whole time unless some one gets in your way then you let off for only a second or 2. Boats run around a set of buoys set aproximately 1/16 to 1/8 mile apart. They have nothing to do with how cars work and boats pull a lot more amps than cars do as well. Here's a little video clip of my castle HV 240. This is a 43" long gas sport hydro that I converted to electric. First pass was 95 mph and second pass was 105 mph.
