RE: Engine & Pipe for Outlaw delta ARF?
I have a Mecoa 28 on a Mousse can muffler on my new Outlaw and it is crazy fast. I have no idea why you would need more. You guys thinking 40 and above I think are making a mistake. The manufacturer is very clear about not overpowering this model and I dont think it is just a CG issue. You can see my Outlaw in the Airplane for sale listings as I'm trying to get back to a scale aerobatic project.

RE: TT .91 Pro (2-stroke) vs. ST .90
As long as you know how to tune the Super Tigre carbs it is not worth the difference. If ST carbs give you nightmares, the Thunder Tiger is always a good way to go. I have owned a number of Thunder Tiger engines and every one of them have been the most user friendly in their respective size. I am certain the TT-91 will be no different. The Super Tigre will typically make a little more power but may be a little finicky relative to a Thunder Tiger.

RE: Kraft .61 motor
I have three of these engines (RJL version). They are sweethearts. Easy to tune, very forgiving and hand prop on first try bouncing them off compression. I'm using the stock Perry carbs. They will last forever!

RE: COMBAT FUN FLY - Bowling Green KY
I'm close enough to come play some weekend but I made the mistake of building my Battle-Axe too nice. New gear, new engine and took the time for low temp covering. I have to scratch it up somehow so I won't be afraid to bang it up in combat. [:D]

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
I'm using an RJL/Kraft 61 and it is a great fit in the small Revolver. I have plenty of power and I have no issues with slowing the plane down on landing though I keep reading in this thread that people can't slow 'em down. Perhaps a different prop is in order OR, did the plane get heavy from these giamongous engines people are puting in this little plane and therefore have to keep the speed up so they don't stall?

RE: Nitroplanes Shipped Junk Seniorita
I just opened the box to my Airbourne Models Tamecat 40. It's replacing a Hangar 9 Tango that I use for Winter ski flying. The Tango was ok but the covering job was always loosening at seams even though I carefully laid everything down with an iron beforee I built it 5 years ago. It's never been crashed but I retired it because the covering finally began falling off everywhere. Anyway, I just looked at the Tamecat. What a complete piece of crap! I'm going to strip the covering and put real monokote on it to give it a chance. It will serve it's function of Winter ski flying but I'm glad I wasnt expecting more from it. I would have rathered bought this as a kit if it were available because I'm going to have to work backwards to go forward. This was my first and will be my last Airbourne brand ARF. I own 3 Nitro Planes ARFs and they're pretty crappy too. It takes a lot of engineering and redoing to make them right. I like the Bobcat 50 I have, the 80" Extra I havent built looks like it'll go together ok but the 40 size Katana (CMP) I'm puting together for my son is a nightmare!!! I have way more time invested trying to make stuff work than I would have had I built a kit. Marty

RE: Megatech 46 anyone running one?
Well, they obviously aren't popular now! [:)] I have two of them and they look like a typical .46 2 stroke and they have a great feel to them. The first one is going on the new version of a Haslam Hobbies Wild Wiz 60. A far cry from the trainer it probably was removed from.

RE: hey guys, whats you're favorite glo plug for winter?
Yes as a matter of fact. I dont take a starter to the field. If I can't hand start any of my glow engines, 2 or 4 stroke, I'm probably having a tuning issue that would only be masked by grinding away at it with a starter. Preheat, flip it against compression and go fly.

RE: hey guys, whats you're favorite glo plug for winter?
Below 40 degrees you can preheat with a hair dryer. I run the OS #8 in the hot or the cold and I fly a lot in Winter. Preheat with the hair dryer long enough so the engine doesnt feel cold any more. It doesn't have to actually feel warm.

RE: Megatech 46 anyone running one?
It's likely named after Chris Chianelli who was big into R/C, especially cars. He eventually found his way to the DIY Network before passing away in his sleep a year or so back. He was a goofy, over the top character that I didnt really care for (dont know him personally) but you couldnt deny his enthusiasm for the hobby. In regards to where to buy Megatech, I had the same question. I bought my two .46s from eBay in two different sales. I'm bidding on the 61 thats on there now. I did run across a place yesterday that was selling off their 61s for $79.99. http://www.atsrcplanes.com/megatechengines.htm

Megatech 46 anyone running one?
I have managed to get my hands on two of the Megatech 46 engines now. They seem like typical ABC 2 stroke glow 46 engines. They have great compression and are very free turning otherwise. The first one is going on my newly framed up Wild Wiz 60 which calls for a 40 up to a light 60. I'm just wondering if anyone else is running this engine. I guess they were being delivered on a 40 size trainer originally?

RE: Wild Wiz 60
I am finishing up the first side of frame up. I finally figured out what I'm doing. There are some discrepancies between the pictures, the drawings and the text in the manual but if you stare at the pictures long enough, the detail comes out. I have come to accept and really like the 1/8" dowels used for the wing rib profiles. It's quick building that way and should be pretty durable. The build should go much more quickly from here. After the first one it would be possible to frame up the entire plane in an evening if you wanted to hustle. I'm just picking away on it a few minutes here and there.

RE: Wild Wiz 60
I started building the Wild Wiz 60. The new Wiz uses wooden dowel in the leading edge and for the rib profiles. Interesting construction. The manual stinks (or at least it confuses the heck out of me) and the kit was missing a bunch of wood but Wild Wiz's fly so good, it's worth the aggrevation. Thank goodness I have a Wild Wiz 40 in translucent covering to refer to. It's a little different cosntruction but it cleared up a couple questions I had early on. Power will be a used Megatech 46 (cheap eBay purchase) I have already fit to the motor mount ply.

RE: Heli engine for airplane use? Can I?
This thread is starting to read like a bunch of academic theory. I'm going to go forward with this and see how it works out and will report back in the Spring when the airplane will be flying. There is no question now that I can get the components necessary to properly mount a propeller and spinner on this engine. There is equally no doubt that even an ill tuned, sloppy mid-range OS91SZ-H 2 stroke will pull the sub-10# Great Planes Revolver around. What remains to be seen is how well it can be tuned at partial power I guess.

RE: Heli engine for airplane use? Can I?
I have the thrust washer on the engine and the prop drive washer is on the way. Thanks for confirming that it will fit! Can you expand and maybe refine your comment that this engine will use TWICE the fuel that an airplane 91 engine will? I dont see how thats possible. This engine is slated for the new Great Planes Revolver so it shouldnt see a lot of full throttle use. When you say the Pitts will cause a loss of power, are you saying it will lose the typical power a Pitts muffler causes or are you saying it will lose MORE power because it's a heli engine? For prop selection, I'm going to load it with the appropriate diameter with an 8 pitch to start. I don't want to fly this thing as fast as a pattern plane unless it proves necessary to draw clean lines.

Hey Jeff, you found me. This is the new project, the RJL/Kraft 61. I am pleasantly surprised with this engine. It's a great fit for the little Great Planes Revolver I just completed. Plenty of power and a nice tone through the Pitts style muffler.

RE: Small Revolver Maiden Leads to Big Revolver Purchase
Well, I am simply blown away by this little ARF. For reference, I used to fly 40% Cardens when I was into IMAC and won plenty of contests. I don't compete any more and have downsized my planes (just a little! haha). This thing is amazing. The only thing I did was gap seal all control surfaces top and bottom in clear Monokote. I did this more as a backup to the CA hinges than as an aerodynamic improvement but I'm sure it does both. The little red Revolver is so smooth and so precise and has virtually no coupling. I had to keep reminding myself it is a 40 size airplane. Landings were not a problem. I would like to see it a little slower in flight and in landing and I hear the bigger one offers both so I look forward to flying the larger Revolver. I ordered it today from Omnimodels. Looks like it's going to get a converted OS 91SX-H heli engine with a Pitts muffler. I have a couple of those engines sitting around.

RE: Heli engine for airplane use? Can I?
Found a heli guy who recently flew his OS91 heli engine on an airplane. He was turning 13,000rpm on a 12 X 8. Sounds like I'm in business! I'm going to order a prop drive washer and Pitts muffler designed for the OS91FX. The muffler dimensions match and I'm simply guessing that the drive washer will.

RE: RJL / Kraft .61 -anyone flying one?
I finally got my hands on some actual 2 stroke airplane glow fuel (Wildcat Premium 10%) which is 20/80 castor/synthetic. The RJL really seems to like it and is all I am feeding it. I'm used to the expense of the 15% Helimix so paying $16 for a gallon of glowfuel was a treat. The Great Planes Revolver (the little red one) and the RJL/Kraft 61 seem to be a really good combination. In regards to an 11 X 7, the load of the 12 X 6 I would think should be about the same. I have not tach'd the engine yet but it sure sounds, smells, looks and feels happy. I dont have much call for a 61 size engine but if I ever do, THIS is my first choice in engines for that role!

Small Revolver Maiden Leads to Big Revolver Purchase
I've had the little Great Planes Revolver knocking around the house for nearly two years now. I could never find the time or motivation to complete it. Recently I told myself I couldnt buy anything else until I finished it. So, this past weekend I completed construction and made the first flights with RJL .61 power. OMG what a beautiful airplane. It flies so smoothly and tracks perfectly with virtually no coupling. I was almost giddy the rest of day. Silly for a grown man I know but I do enjoy this hobby! I couldn't manage to go 24 hours from those first flights before ordering the new larger Revolver! I can't wait. Power for this one will either be an OS91 helicopter engine I have on hand or a new Super Tigre 90 I'll have to purchase.

Heli engine for airplane use? Can I?
I have a need for a 90 size 2 stroke glow engine for an airplane project and have an OS91 SX-H blue head heli engine on hand. Any reason I can;t use that in an airplane application as long as the shaft is long enough?

RE: RJL / Kraft .61 -anyone flying one?
Guys, what a nice engine! I ran a partial tank through a NIB engine, roughly set the needles and went flying. OMG this thing was rich at midrange, a hint of 4 stroke on high end yet idles well and doesnt quit in fligh! Each flight thereafter I leaned the high end a little. Idle still good, midrange getting better. Starts with a flip or two by hand. I could touch the engine right after landing and leave my hand on it yet it was making nice power for my new Great Planes Revolver (the little one) I was maidening in the cold today. Fuel is Wildcat Premium 10% nitro. Prop is APC 12 X 6. Muffler is 2 outlet Slimline.
