HET F-16 2W-20 and tsunami 72A ESC questions
I am building a HET F-16, What kind of watts and amps will I be drawing at full thottle with a HET 2W-20, 72 amp esc and a 3000 Miamp 4s Lipo rated at 20C cont 30C max. battery? Lot of experience with Turbine and DF but new to the electric jet thing. Thanks, Matty

Smoke system not smoking
I have a smoke system on my Falcon 120 and it smokes fine on the ground but not in flight. I know the pump is working in flight but it seams the air/exhaust is dispersing the fluid before it ignites. I have the same smoke system on my formost and it does fine. The Formost does have a short thrust tube that may be helping. My next step is to drill a hole in the exaust tube to inject the fluid in right behind the turbine blade. Any suggestions/help? Thanks, Matty

RE: jetjoes starters
Yes the JeJoe JJ1800 Bullit starter will work on the AMT Mercury with round compressor nut. I have all my turbines set up for semi auto start with with eletric starter, I run the starter with a shunt switch. and control gas, fuel, glow plug ignitor manualy, I like to have full control of everything during the start sequence. The only thing you will need to do is shorten the 3 starter legs so the bendix clutch will make contact with the compressor nut. Just modded my AMT Mercury last night and tested it. The bendix clutch has no problem grabbing the round nut and spinning the engine with no slippage. Hope this helps, Matty

RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
I have a Skymaster Grippen ARF plus. The question I have is the Carbon Fiber main spar tube is one piece that extends through the Fuselage. Should this be cut in to 2 pieces that only extend flush to the inside of the mount plates. I am tending to leave it one piece for added strength, the airflow around it to the engine should'nt be a problem. Thanks, Matty

I have a Skymaster Gripen ARF and deciding on an engine for it. Possible choices JetJoe 1800 Jetcat 70 Jetcat 80 RAM 750 I think an 18LB thrust engine should be perfect for this jet. Any inputs woud be greatly appreciated Thanks Matty

RE: What do you think of FORMOST 150 ?
Flew my Formost this last week flew well but had some problem with elevator trim, come to find out one of my elevator servos was unpluged. Flew the intire flight with one elevator servo. Thank god for redundacy. Using DS-821s on the elevator. It has a JJ-1400 and I did all the mods, except glassing the wings, as described in this forum. Also modded with split flaps inside each boom to fuselage. Has an external centerline tank, I made out of Estes parts, for the smoke fluid but have not hooked up the pump yet. Wing loading seems to be fine and JJ-1400 seems to have enouph power but surley not overpowered. Cut a hatch in the bottom forward of nose gear for the 3 2000 MiAmp Lipos. Balanced about 1" forward of spar.

RE: What do you think of FORMOST 150 ?
This thread has been too quiet lately. Question? I am building a Formost 150 and plan on using one of my JJ1400s on it. It runs great so please no JetJoe Bashing. Do you guys that have flown it think a 14Lb thrust engine will be enouph? I have modded the wings with extended carbon fiber wing tubes front and back, doubled ribs and doubled spar webs. Don't plan on fiberglassing the wings to save weight. will also mod main gear mounts and booms for added strength. Thanks for the info, Matty
ORIGINAL: RCISFUN You may want to reconsider the filler of the vertical fin, if you download my PDF instructions you will find a 1:1 drawing of the former I used for the fin, also all of the ribs are included
RCISFUN, Thanks a million for the PDF file, has alot of great info I will be using on my Formost. You are the kind of member and poster to this forum that RCUniverse is designed for. Sharing and offering techniques/info for your fellow RCer. Rather than some of the premodonas out there that offer no useful information and would rather get on their high horse and slam and downgrade aircraft and engines that don't cost $10,000. RE: What do you think of FORMOST 150 ?
I will be ordering one this week. Planned Mods: - Replace 4 aluminum wing tubes with 2 carbon fiber tubes that extend halve the length of the wing panels and all the way through the fuselage. - Remove sheeting on bottom of panels from spar back double sheer web between ribs with sheer web running verticaly. - Double all the ribs, from the spar aft, overlaping oval lightning holes. - Add tubes for the carbon fiber wing tubes to fit into. - Remove all covering from wing panels and horizontal stab. glass with 3/4 oz. glass. - Strengthen main landing gear blocks inside the wing with fiberglass and carbon fiber tape. - Fill booms with 2 part filler as described in this thread. - 2 DS821s in the horizontal stab - New Canopy, I hate the looks of the present one. - Split flaps between the fuselage and booms. - Sand the booms and fuselage paint grey and orange in Tiger Meet Scheem like the Tiger Meet F-16 - Plan on using JJ-1800 for this project, yet to buy from Gabe. RE: 2.4 issues with gear sequencers??
I had a problem with my electronic brake valve getting it to reprogram after I switched over to 2.4. I am not sure of what king it is. It is the tall black plastic one with the set button on the side. It looks a little like the Orbit. I went to thier Web site and down loaded thier instruction and now it workes perfectly. Here is the link and programing steps. Link:http://www.orbitronic.de/ Programming: The Orbit PRO-Single-Action-Valve can be operated either in switching mode for cylinders with return spring (e.g. Eurokit, Spring-Air) or in a proportional mode for air pressure brakes. To toggle between these modes, hold the SET-button pressed while turning on the R/C system. The status LED confirms the successful switchover. â— Pressing the SET-button for 1-2 seconds teaches the valve OFF (2: => 3:). The status LED confirms this by flashing. â— Pressing the SET-button for more than 5 seconds teaches the valve ON (1: => 2:). The status LED confirms this by flashing. â— Now the valve should follow the control input from the R/C transmitter. Switching mode: The status LED shows valve ON (retract landing gear) or valve OFF (extend landing gear). Proportional mode: The valve pulses proportionally to the control input from 0 % to 100 %. Pressing the SET-button for 3 seconds stores the current R/C position (e.g. elevator) as valve OFF OFFSET. The status LED confirms this by flashing. This allows the input range to be spread to the best braking effect.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Changed over to the single piece tail cone. Runs about 30 deg hotter at idle and full throttle, but sounds and looks much better. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am on my 3rd starter motor. been going through some used JetJoe ones I acquired. I don't know if they were bad to begin with. I am using a 7.4V 2000MiAmp Lipo pack to power the pump and starter. The first 2 did fine for the first 2 or 3 starts then just died. Yes, the bendix clutch is adjusted properly no binding or spinning after starter disengages. I would like to try a different starter motor, but I have no clue on where and what to get, I would like it to be the same size so it will fit in my bullit starter cone. Thanks in advance for the help Matty

RE: Radio requirement for jets
I have a DX7 and all 7 channels are used with gear flaps smoke and normal 4. I am either going to put my jettronic electronic brake valve to work at 3/4 nose down stick or I was thinking to put it on my 3 position flap switch. brakes on 1/2 flaps. I take off with flaps up and land with full flaps. on landing roll I could retract flaps to 1/2 and get full brakes. What do you guys think?, still waiting on my Jettronic valves from jetpowerusa Matty

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
ORIGINAL: Tom in Cincy This thread off topic ?? Come on, its almost never on topic. The mods keep deleting posts but the trolling, bashing, and indirect insults never stops. Its a thread for JetJoe Owners and not for guys trying to save Wren from extinction. Its full of totally unsubstantiated comments regarding turbine knowledge, machining tolerances, and materials quality. From a bunch of guys who neither own a JetJoe or could possibly have first hand knowledge of the turbine. What makes you think these motors cost less than a Wren to build or are built of inferior materials. How do you know what Jetjoe's costs really are. How do you know a substantial portion of this cost is not subsidized by the Chinese government. . Here's some things you can count on. 1. China will be the next Superpower. 2. JetJoe will continue to grab market share. 3. You guys will continue to bash JetJoe 4. Which will keep this thread bumped to the top of the jet forum . 5. Which just helps JJ sell more turbines. RE: How financially well-to-do are jet pilots?
ORIGINAL: tp777fo Actually it's none of your business what I make. But I'll tell you this. I worked hard enough in high school to be offered a full four college scholarship. Got my BS degree. I then went on and got a Masters after that. Spent 20 years in the Air Force defending our freedoms. Buried 12 of my friends too, after we dug them out of the "smokin' holes". After I retired got a job with a major corporation flying airplanes. I am gone from my family 18-20 days a month flying people around who think I lead a cush life and make too much money. (Just remember who's in charge when the "fire light" is burning brightly, or the weather is doggy doo and you want to get to where ever.) Yea, you struck a nerve. I have spent my entire life working hard so I can enjoy the things I like. If I want to buy a new jet I just might do it. Now I feel better.....going to go get a nice shot of scotch and work on a jet!
Tom, Diddo, This is Matty that used to be at Randolph and Universal City/ Seguin RC club with you. I ended up doing 22 years in blue and fly for that purple cargo carrier now after being furlowed from the big U. RE: FRL45 Gas engine Whats the verdict?
I got 7,200 with a zinger 20x8 prop, engine still a little on the rich side especialy on the down lines so i think 7,500 is very possible with this engine after break in. I have ordered many rings from Frank, He does a great job, all you need to do is send him your ring and he will match it with one of his. make sure you tell him what engine it is for and he will add it to his data base. I have his rings in Echo 30cc, and two OS 91s. Matty

RE: FRL45 Gas engine Whats the verdict?
I have the FRL 45, for spinner attch. I went to the hardware store got a bolt about 1 inch longer that matched the hex bolt that came with the engine, cut the head off the new bolt and then drilled and tapped a large spinner nut and threaded that on one end. added a thin nut and torqued it against the spinner nut then silver solder the thin nut spinner nut and bolt together, flown about 5 times no problem. RE: FRL45 Gas engine Whats the verdict?
I flew my FRL (FTL) 45 on a Nitro Extra 300s, with 20x8 prop. Great running engine and more than enouph power for this 140 size airframe. Engine quit on landing and when I turned the prop over felt a binding/scraping. Sure enouph the prop adapter moved back exactly as it did for VW Red Baron and was scraping against the crankcase. Easy fix removed the adapter and shaved of about 1/100th off the back of the adaptor and replaced looks like good clearance now will try again tomarow. Matty[:D]
