RE: JetCat 180rx
I have a 140 yet to fly it (just bench start). I wanted a 180 but was put off by all the issues. When will we see reliable 180's? Mav
ORIGINAL: Jetkopter There is no issue with the 180 RX combustion chamber as is, there fine. Problem is that the other mods like the mod to the rear oiler are causing the combustion chamber to be moded or replaced . Big difference between 140 and 180 totally different internals 140 run like clocks!!!!
Which one spools faster the 180 Or 140? Also what makes the 180 give 4kg extra thrust from same can size 140 and same compressor and turbine wheel size? Mav

Ok got my P140 rx on wednesday. Now installed. Is it supposed to come with a manual? This is my first Jet Cat. Read on a web site to turn off the Aux function for single rx use and managed to get the lead chase happening. How do you program/learn the throttle stick end points and trim positions? GSU is amazing compared to my Merlin FADEC if I knew how to use it?????? Help please!!!!!!!! Mav

I will be flying with a P140 for now. Once I have stick time, I will measure engine suitability. If need be I will simply put a P180RX in it if required. Different flying styles also suit different set ups and engines! I cant wait to fly this thing. I have a feeling it will suit my flying style!! :) Mav
ORIGINAL: joeflyer Mav,  Why not stick with a known quantity? If you love the Merlin 140 in your UF, why not get another?  I love the M90 in my F-16, so I bought a M140 for my latest project. I have only one ground run and one flight on my F-4 and so far am impressed with the M140's starting, throttle response, and fuel consumption. If you look at the last engine test comparison in RCJI you'll see that the M140 is smaller, lighter, has more thrust, and better fuel consumption than the P140. I don't trust the manufacturer's numbers and consider the RCJI reports good unbiased data. Oh, by the way the Merlin also costs less (at least in the USA).  Joe
Joe, Yes I love my Merlin 140! Best Turbine I have ever owned. I figured P140 rx is the latest and wanted to give it a try. Slighlty more thrust 32 pounds and yes 150 grams heavier, however includes the solenoids. I have just pulled the trigger on the P140 will be here next week through Peter at Intairco. I am hoping it has great spool time. Will post my comparison and thoughts next week. If not happy will sell it to you cheap and get another Merlin 140 LOL!!!! Variety is the spice of life so they tell me Joe!!!!! Mav
