Brushless Exotek RC18 gearing question
I have a Tek18 converted RC18T. It has the metal diffs, CVDs, Slipper and the gear cover. I just bought a Mamba Micro Pro 6800Kv power system, and I'd like to know what would be a good pinion for this set-up. I want something controllable, and something that won't make the motor-esc run too hot. Spur is 57t. Thank you!

Which ESC???
I'd like to know what ESC are availlable for boats (brushed). I need to replace a brushed ESC that runs 2 small motors ( 370 size) in a scale boat. I can find several ESCs designed for rc cars, but don't know where to look for for a boat ESC. Thank you!

DX6i throttle return spring modification
Anyone did this mod? Do you know if parts from an old Futaba Tx will fit ( spring, lever...). Don't want to spend 20$ shipping, 4 weeks waiting ( du to shipping time) and 20$ ship back from Horizon to have it modified... Thank you!

DX6i throttle stick
Hello, I'd like to convert a DX6i out of a Blade 400 for Crawler use, which involve modifying the throttle stick to make it spring loaded just like the right stick. Is it just a matter of installing a standard spring ( like my Futaba radios.... ), or do I need additionnal parts?? Is a kit availlable? ( I DON'T want to send the radio to Horizon, too long and expensive from Canada). Thank you!

RE: Hitec servos with a DX3r radio
Well the "Buzz" was more than just a "buzz", it was a totally uncontrolled "buzz" that sent the rc18s directly into the wall. However, we set the frame rate to 16.5ms, and no more problems with three similar systems ( DX3r with HS-65mg servos. ESCs are different though, a Tekin, a LRP and a Mamba 25). Hopefully this will help other people too. Thank you!

Hitec servos with a DX3r radio
Hello, Is there an incompatibility between the HS-65mg and the DX3r radio? I'm trying to setup 2 different RC18s with two different DX3r, and the servos both randomly start buzzing and when it happens they don't follow the radio's inputs. It happens especially when giving very fast steering inputs. I am not yet familiar with this radio ( don't own one...), but I noticed that there is a frame rate adjustment in the menu, it can be set to 5.5, 11, and 16.5ms. Right now it is set to 11. Can you help me with this problem? There is absolutely no binding in the linkages and the servos are mounted properly without binding the servo cases. Thank you!

DX3r ajnd HS-65mg Servos
Is there any incompatibility between these two items? I am trying to setup 2 different RC18s with DX3r and Hitec HS-65mg servos, and in both cases the servo randomly makes a buzzing noise and stops following the radio input ( especially with very fast steering inputs). Is there a setting that must be adjusted in the radio??? I'm not yet familiar with the DX3r. Thank you!

Foam tire maintenance
I run a RC18T FT with Losi Mini-T foam tires installed. It was a great combination however now the tires are so slippery it's impossible to run. Traction compound isn't allowed at our indoor carpet track, but is there any way to clean/rehydrate the tires to make them stick again??? I heard things like Simple Green, WD-40, brake cleaner... But unsure what I should do. Thank you!

Thank you for the replies so far. Ok for my NiCd batteries this charger is excellent. But is it ok for NiMh?? I know only a few modes can be used, but will it safely and effectivelly charge/cycle my NiMh??? Thak you!

Alpha 4 charger.... Is it still a good charger?
I have a Alpha 4 charger, and I'm kind of wondering if it's worth keeping. With all the new Lipos, NiMh etc... is there still a good use for this charger? There was a time not too long ago when people where waiting months and months to get their Alpha 4.....

RE: Build was so much fun I want to do it again!
My friend just bought a JGF 500TH motor for his Mini-Titan, with a Phoenix 45 ESC and Medusa BEC. We haven't yet testflown the thing, but it should be MUCH more powerful than the stock Align or Tunder Tiger stuff.... And for Gyros if you want to try something different, maybe you could consider a Spartan.... Besides more power, however, I doubt this would be much different from what you already have....

Don't forget that if your friend gets a E325 too.... you'll be able to trade spare parts and help each others with building and setup.....

RE: Build was so much fun I want to do it again!
Of course bigger is better, but if you want to stay in the same size (and cost range) the Titan E325 flies very well and is more stable than the T-Rex. We are a few helo addicts around here and I am one of the few ones flying the Rex. All the others are flying the Titan and they think it flies better. (I love my T-Rex ;) )

RE: Tail rotor not centering
Can't say for sure if the heli is properly set-up, however this kind of behavior is perfectly normal with a Heading Hold gyro.... You should try to find someone to help you set-up your heli ( a real person )! But if you can't we here can help you out.... RE: Main shaft replacement
When the bottom holes doesn't line up.... turn the main shaft. If you turn it the right way, the one way will lock and the sleeve will turn, thus allowing you to align it properly.... Make sure you installed the shaft the right way, there's a hole on both side of the shaft. The hole which has the more lenght of shaft remaining (4.8mm) over it is the top of the shaft, where the head block is attached (hope my explanation make sense).

RE: Confused on which tail servo to get for t-rex se v2
The S9650 will run on 6v, don't know about the Logictech gyro though. I had a S9650 on my T-rex, and altough it's a good servo, I wasn't fully satisfied. I changed to a s3400g and I really like it. Apparently if you use a 401 you can put a bit of delay on the gyro if using the S9650, that will possibly improve performance.

We work under and around power lines everyday. Even do sling work under the powerlines. And I've used them quite often when stuck in bad weather (just fly under them to nearest station...)

In normal mode you do not need that much power at 6 degrees.

RE: New TREX 450 SE problem - wobbling
Unfortunately here there are BIG temperature changes everyday ( and a bunch of white sh... [:'(]on the ground since this morning... I'm a bit North of Quebec city right now). Anyway back to trying to figure your problem....Earlier in this thread there was some talk about head speed... Well I don't know if you hover at half or three quarter stick, but let's just say that at 6 degrees pitch I have 78% throttle on my throttle curve in normal mode. 13 tooth pinion. However I have a 430L motor (slightly slower than your XL), but check if you have a very big difference from my setup.... ( and 100% throttle at full 10.5 degrees pitch)

RE: New TREX 450 SE problem - wobbling
About the balance thing... RC Heli Mag reviewed the 450SE last year they places the battery just like you did. I went flying last night at -7 deg celsius with the CF tailboom and the belt didn't get loose, no more wobbling issues for me.

RE: Best cyclic servos for a T-Rex450 V2
question, if digital servos are constantly trying to center, creating the chatter like the JR DS285's.... why doesn't either of my Futaba S9650's, or the DS3400G (all of which are digital) create the buzzing noise? can't wait to get this heli built so I can first hand see the difference in tail set ups.
Good question. I guess each servo model has its own characteristics. My JR9000T and Hitec HS-5965MG (in a Losi 8T rc car) both chatter a lot. My 9254 in my Raptor 50 is also quite noisy. It's true that both the 9650 and 3400g are rather quiet....

RE: New TREX 450 SE problem - wobbling
Well maybe just 6 thousands of an inch but it still caused this to happen to my belt. It would slacken enough to move to the left side "ridge" on the tail pulley (shown on the pic). Anyway... another thing I've seen on two T-Rex is a bit of slop where the flybar goes through the arms (see third pic). Other than that I'm out of ideas. Must be something very simple...

RE: Best cyclic servos for a T-Rex450 V2
The JR DS285 are digital, so they are always trying to center themselves. That's the "buzzing" noise you are refering to. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal. I didn't know they were THAT slow! Unless you are into aerobatic they should be fine, but I don't think they are strong or fast enough for 3D. My friend and I both do helo setups for the LHS, and we've never had luck with the DS285. Some of them burned rather quickly. (Maybe just a bad batch???). I just changed my 9650 servo for a 3400g, and I prefer the 3400g, tail is more solid. One local guy who flys hard 3D says he prefer the 3400g.

RE: New TREX 450 SE problem - wobbling
We've had lots of problems with belt slackening in our Raptors 50 (ally tailbooms) and now I am experiencing the same thing with my T-Rex. Problem occurs only when going from indoor to outdoor near or below freezing temperature. Anyway I just changed to a CF tailboom, will probably try it tonight. I'll let you know if it helps.

RE: 450 V2 First Flight and First Crash!
If you feel like disassembling the grips, roll the feathering shaft on a piece of glass. You'll know right away if it's bent or not. Wrks for the main shaft too. I put some small plastic spacers between the blade grips and the aluminum collar on the head (.2mm thick) to compress the stockdampeners. I think the stock dampeners makes a very sloppy head. I'll eventually bye Trueblood dampeners too.

RE: Trex 450SA Newbie Questions
Can't go wrong with a GY401. Presently trying to setup a friend's 500x gyro, and well, it's not a 401... (well he's got a cheap S75 servo too so that doesn't help). HS65 servo is an excellent choice. I just changed my S9650 tail servo to a JR 3400g and I prefer the JR servo ( altough I usually hate JR stuff....). The S9650 is very good, but I think the 3400g holds the tail a bit better. Some parts are worth upgrading to metal (after you break the plastic ones). The tail gearboxe, blade grips... That's only my opinion, of course! Check ebay, I found a lot of parts for a fraction of normal cost. Here's my SA upgraded to almost a SEV2 (only the main frame and swashplate isn't V2)
