RE: World Models Giant Scale Zero Build
You will like this plane. When balanced slightly nose heavy, it flies like a trainer. The stock gear mounts are trash. Had to totally redo them to make it take some hard landings. Have spring air retracts and robart struts now. Mine is close to 10 years old now and will compete with it again at the Texas Scale Championships on June 8th. Running a BME 44cc gas. Other pictures in my gallery. Good luck with your build! Paul

RE: P-40 Brotherhood (All P-40's Welcome)
We have four Skyshark ARF P40's here in Space City RC Club, Katy, Texas. Great flying planes! Green one has BME 50, British version has DA 60, Flying Tiger #64 has a G62. Flying Tiger#47 has Precision Eagle 4.2. All have Sierra retracts. Paul Curry

RE: That nasty AT-6 Bounce
It's the drop that makes it bounce. If you trim your plane so that it just barely loses altitude as you throttle down with retracts and flaps down, the plane should never drop fast enough to bounce. A long shallow approach is needed for this too but is works for me. Try making the strut springs a little lighter and mushier when compressed

RE: Mounting dummy radial engines
Cheap, easy way is take a picture of one like this. Size it right. Glue it to a firm paper plate. Dremel cooling holes. Shoo goo it to the inside of the cowl. Weighs nothing. Looks OK. Lasts a long time. Paul

If every body commits as they say they will, Space City RC from Katy, Texas will be there with at least 22 giant scale warbirds. And gaggles of foamy warbirds for the morning and evening hours. Had fun last year and looking forward to it Terry! Paul

You need the noseweight anyway. I'm running a 42cc Poulan in mine. A great flying airplane! A 26cc will be marginal, Paul

RE: Skyshark P-40
These planes do fly well. On the ground a different story. 2 degrees right and 1 degree down thrust really helps tracking if it is wild on takeoff. Move cg forward 1/2 " as it helps approach attitude and overall flying stability. Had two of these till I lost one two weeks ago due to aileron failure. Green one has BME 50 while brown one had a Pecision Eagle 4.2. Paul

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
Mike, there is not any drop in retracts available for this plane as of now. I used a set of old Spring Airs and reangled the mount slightly. Bent some 1/4" music wire to fit it in the wheel well. Works pretty good as a bad landing will only pull the ply layers apart. 5 minute epoxy and 30 minutes later, back in the air. Paul

Devildog, what I would do is weather all the panel lines and hatches, add some rain wash and paint chips. Hopefully it will blend in some. Sorry this happened but what else can you do but start over ? Paul

RE: New 81
D dog, save yourself a lot of frustration and replace the retracts and struts with some good quality air retracts. The stock retracts just are not strong and H9 messed up the struts when they drilled a hole for the wheel pant mount right at a critical area. This is an exellent flying plane and should last for a long time. A broken strut or malfunctioning mechanical retract could really damage the wing, not to mention the complicated fit area at the wing root. It is not worth the risk! Just my thought. Paul p.s. Mine flies with a 50cc BME gas and replaced retracts with 4" wheels since pictures were taken. Was tired of fighting stock setup.

RE: Cheap knock-around gas Warbird
Built but never flown 88" Pica Spitfire with Spring Air retracts, servos, and new ST 4500. Stole from swap meet for $200. Sold ST4500 for $100 and bought used 4.2 Sachs off RCU for $150. Needed $12 carb kit. Runs good now. Had an extra radio and receiver. Added a little weathering and detail. $262 pretty cheap for a good flying knock around gas warbird. Paul

Hall sensor question ?
Had to make a hall sensor mount on a converted engine with a CH ignition box. Got it timed well and it seems to spark OK, but due to space limitations in the hub, the sensor is not exactly flat in reference to the pulse magnet. Maybe 10 to 12 degrees bent. Could this be a problem? Haven't ran it yet. Thanks, Paul

RE: take that not so good arf out of the box and make it into something better
All ARF's need some beefing up in areas. I always go over the fuse formers and retract mountings with finishing resin. Sometimes the retract mountings need to be redone all together. Change or add a few cosmetics or redo the color scheme completely. If you don't care to scratch build or from a kit, this is the way to go. My WM Zero is going on 9 years old and have some others getting on up in age. I fly them regularly and they fly better than kits. See my gallery for more examples of bashed ARFs. Most people ask, "What kit is this built from?" Paul
