Super Tigre
I found a really good deal on a Kaos with a "vintage" supertigre on it. The seller sent me a pic of it and maybe you can see the engine. What makes it unique is that the muffler has a conical indention in the front. What year did these ST's come out?

RE: Super Tigre RTS for G-51 and GS-45
tune your high end first...then tweak the low end... If it quits when you gun it...then richen the low end an 8th of a turn at a time till its fine.....If that doest work .... try another carb from a ST that you know isnt problematic

RE: 3w 80xi comp series overheating
I had an issue with my 3w80xi, it would take too long to idle down....I just got it back from Aircraft International yesterday, and it turns out my 3w80 was from the first batches of 80's out that came with the wrong prop hub timing, so he put a new hub, and could easily tell that the magnets on the hub are spaced differently than my old hub.. I fired her up this morning with a Bolly wood 27x10 and was disappointed with only 5200 RPM tuned to fly according to Pe's calulator thats only 5.37 HP and about 37#s of thrust. With a 26x12 Menz Ultra i tuned it to about 6000 RPM and got 8.34 HP with about 47 pounds of thrust. According to 3w the engine is rated at about 8.5 HP so i guess the 26x12 is the right prop. I tried a 26x10 a while back before i sent in the engine and it ripped in the air, it was very noisy. I cant believe there are people saying they get over 7200 on a 27x10 with a 80xi like mine.... even with a tuned pipe you cant get an extra 2000 rpm Looks like ijn going to have to buy a DLE-111 if i want to use my 27x10 efficiently [:D]

what about an edge, extra or yaks, something "scaleish" ? On low rates they are very docile plus theyland like trainers...and when you are ready fow high rates, just flip a switch and go ballistic

RE: Painting Engine Compartment
An old timer told me he would add coloring to epoxy glue and use that as fuel proofing firewalls and engine boxes, etc... K&B Epoxy paint works very well...too bad they dont make it any more ...I have used Zap finishing resin it works beautifully too, i add a tiny bit of acetone to thin it out

RE: engine mounting
ORIGINAL: jerrysu29 Wood Screws? you guys most be Carpenters. Real Mechanics use Allen headed bolts. I threw away my screw drivers 20 years ago, an Engine mounted as in the enclosed picture will stay tighter longer and require less maintenance I hope this will give you guys some insight on how to properly mount an engine. The fisrt thing I do before starting any build is to throw away all wood screws and machine bolts in the kit that requires the use of a screw driver and replace them with Allen Head bolts or screws. I do not like things coming loose. I have checked many planes for people complaining about their engines coming loose and find that every one of them had been mounted with the use of Philips headed sheet metal screws, so take it for what it is worth jerrysu29 Call Sign Wild Man
i agree....i consider using sheet metal or woord screws to be the most inferior way of mounting a motors regardless of size.......4-40 and a nice nylon lock nut is the way to go on 40 size...6-32 on 60-120, and 10-32 on small gassers, aqnd 1/4 20 for large gassers....its not a rule bit its is the safe way to go
