ORIGINAL: kevinkenny My 180 is not getting the rpm that the specks says it should. I am running a 16/8 propellor using 15% Cool Power and only getting 8,300 rpm. Â Not that the Diablo is under powered but I was just wondering if there is any thing I can do. I did adjust the low speed idle jet quite lean to get the idle speed I wanted and am not sure if this would affect the high speed adjustment.
You should be getting 8600-9000 off a 18x6w apc and around 8400 on a 18x6 Xoar . Why the pics of the 3D Hobby AJ Slick ? You should try the 180 in the 70" Slick :)

Looks like it says 56 on the side of it. Pretty sweet charger! Pearhead , I do have to remember that . I think thats the one reason I fly glow in the first place , the challenge . Hobbsy , we just moved here Im going to have to pay that shop a visit . thanks for telling me about it . Suprisingly with all the beultiful land around these parts there is absolutely no place to fly within 40 miles. I have to go all the way up to Wytheville or down to TN like Johnson City and Watuaga . Im kinda bummed about that , I have not flown since we moved here . Only tuned the engines up to the new atmosphere .
Just get a Cline regulator and be done with the hassle of the pump . Iron Bays are nice also and I tend to use them on my bigger stuff.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
ORIGINAL: SU-31 flyer [&o]. Sad Satio owner! I sent my Satio 270 in to be repaired and got it back I would say unusable. I have and have owned many Satios the 300, 270, 80,65,etc. I called horizon before buying this 270 on a Top Flight Stinson to see if they still repaired them they said they did so I got it. I sent it in after running it for check up and a lose pushrod. Taking it apart they broke the intake manifold and said they used JB weld to fix it. I have not even opened the box to look at it because to me JB weld is just a glorified epoxy that will loosen with heat. I'm afraid I may loose the plane if the engine quits. I have sent in other engines with wear and tear and have always got good results. A OS 48 and Super tiger 90 to bad to fix and out of date I was offered different engines at a small fee which I was happy to pay. But not here just a broken engine back. Well I called Horizon today to let them know I wasn’t happy. The person that worked on the engine is out of the office till the 10th but they said they would talk to him and get back to me. I’m hoping for good results.
To tell you the truth I had to use JB weld on an exhuast and it has held great for the past year . Ive Heard of it holding on Headers on cars also with good results. Not that I would accept a factory repair job with it though . You sent it to Horizon ?
ORIGINAL: Phantom4
ORIGINAL: show871 Hey guys I have a new saito 125 with a 1.5 gallons run. But a problem! I have tuned it well, but I cannot get it to leave a smoke trail at full throttle! why is this? Even when I richen it too much no smoke! It has a nice burst of smoke upon acceleration When I land, taxi back and temp it Im in the 140-170 range depending on where I temp the head. Runnin cool power 30% heli, 15x8 9000ish rpm Should I be worried about no smoke trail????????? Thanks 871
Why are you using a 30% heli fuel????[:-] Heli fuel have more oil then a airplane.that cose a lot of smoke. on all my Saito engines i'm using Cool Power 15%
Probably cause 30% aero blend is really hard to come by in most places . I only wish I could come across some Coolpower 30/18 without having to special order it. Some of us like to use 30% for the power . It seems to have come down in price over the summer also , so I dont mind paying what I used to pay for 15% now ;)

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
ORIGINAL: obriendigital How many turns out from the stock setting for the low end are you running for an 82? Stock setting is flush with the plastic control arm correct? I have mine about 2.5-3 full turns in and still runs bad on the low end, but transitions to high end real well. I have had about a gallon and a half through it, but the low end is still 2500 rpm or more, anything less and it does. I am running 15% fuel and an OS F plug. Thoughts?
Doesn't matter , you'll never be able to compare your needle settings with some one else's period . There are way too many variables . Plus once you take the time to get it nice and tuned in why the heck would anyone want to count how many turns their needles are ? [:D] One thing , get more fuel through before you get all set on a low idle . 2500 is not bad really for a brand new engine . You will find that once you do get the LSN set nice that about 16ounces later the LSN will tend to richen up again on you . This is were your going to start seeing your top end gain and idle get lower . Just follow the tuning protocol and you'll be good .
ORIGINAL: BChris Well, I had the day off and took the Saito 91 to the field for the real test. I had the field to myself and no wind. I ended up making 6 - 12 + minute flights and had zero engine issues. I think it still feels a little warm, but it ran good for all of flights. I want to thank everyone for their assistance. Regarding the filters. I think that was the cause of all of my problems. I'm not sure, but the onboard filter that I was using does not have a direction arrow on it. During the repairs, I think I might have turned it around by mistake and flushed all of the trash thru the engine. Brad
What club do you fly at ?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The only bad thing Ive really seen and heard complaints about with the FG20 was the position of the throttle arm. Making you run the linkage through the center of the firewall and putting the throttle servo in an awkward spot. I run a filter on my fuel jug and inline Sullivans which you can back wash very effectively to clean it out.

No need for onboard IMO . I run all inverted setups and a reliable idle is had with proper tuning. Even a heavily oiled 30% will see a reliable idle with the right tuning inverted .

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Paul , with my experience with the .82's you can expect around a 600-800 rpm gain from initial break in to full break in (on 15%). You'll notice your low end is going to richen up as it breaks in also the low end will just keep getting better and better . My initial low end rpm's are about 2700 at first and I settle to 2000 , although I can go lower this seems to be the best all around idle rpm to me .

Dont know What the problem Was But it Would Run For A Little While And Stop,Try To Retart And it would kick back Pretty Hard. Would not Start Till It cooled Down. This Went On Till I Got Fed Up With It. Did Any Of You Guys Out There Have This Kind Of Problem?
I have 4 .82a's and each one runs like a champ! They will even push a 15x4w pretty decent also . My guess is if you had to let it cool and it was kicking back upon start you have it too lean . As it was broken in per instructions and ran fine right ? Only to start messing up when you leaned the needles out and maybe went too far on the LSN? Did you try adjusting the needles some ? Any case its back at Horizon so they should be able to tell you whats up.
