RE: Strato 210 info/help?
Scott, Thanks for the correction on the Strato origins. BTW, I have a Bristol Scout fuselage and plans from the Strato kit. I scrapped the wings as the previous builder did such a hash job they weren't worth saving. Fortunately I have the MAN plans to complete the airplane. You might also know that at one time, your dad had sold the original Bristol from the MAN article to Carl Cantera of the Delaware RC Club. Carl passed away recently but I recall him flying the airplane quite a bit. He later sold it to my dad who had it for a while but then sold it to someone else. I lost track of the airplane after that.
ORIGINAL: summerwind and BTW, Chip sells Randolph colored Butyrate for 24 bucks a quart..............Sig sells the Butyrate for 18 bucks a pint!.........quite a difference, and i think i heard that Randolph makes the paint for Sig
Brodak is Randolph dope. SIG is a different formula.

RE: Silk Covering Techniques
What Paul said. Randolph/Brodak market a retarter that you use with pigmented dope. It slows the drying, making the dope finish nice and glossy. OT: Paul, there's a package in the mail for you.

RE: Royal Kits
ORIGINAL: Riddle4U Remember that Frank Tallman lost his life flying the real flight of the Phoenix airplane! This is a real airplane lovers movie! Chad..I'll check that link out, thanks buddy. - Eric
It was Paul Mantz, not Frank Tallman. The movie was an influence on me also, having seen it on the big screen and jumping out of my seat when the truth came out. I was cranking out Guillow and Sterling kits left and right. It didn't matter if they flew or not.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
ORIGINAL: Greenaero17 Thanks for asking. It has jarred my memory and I now remember changing the tail-feathers to make the airplane more responsive as suggested by my trainer back then. Once I enlarged the rudder, it flew a lot more responsive and stable. It definitely changed the tail moment. If you had not noticed, I may have never remembered making the change. [8D] -Larry http://www.Burnsmodelaircraft.com
The Tri Squire was popular in Class I. The rudder only guys installed a larger rudder, removed one rib from each wing panel and installed a hot .35.

RE: Octoberfest 2009 Oxford, PA
Well another Octoberfest is in the can and what a weekend it was. We had great weather the two previous years but this year it was time to pay the piper. We had rain showers Saturday morning with the winds picking up to around 15 - 20 mph once it cleared off. We did not get a lot of flights in due to the weather but we had a few hardy souls try for it. It was good to meet up again with WEDJ and it was also great to meet Freebird. PD1 was also there with his fantastic flying Aeromaster. I've never seen an airplane like that climb vertical and keep going. We were able to get in a few Class II and Class III flights. In Class III Terry Terrenoire of the Aeroguidance Society took first, Freebird second and PD1 third. Terry also won Class II and Jim Quinn also of the Aeroguidance Society took second. WEDJ won the Goldberg Concours with his fantastic Jr. Skylark Twin. The Saturday evening banquet at the Nottingham was great, everyone enjoyed the good eats. Sunday flying was much better with lighter winds, with John Haffner, Perly Bowen, Ron Morgan and myself back at the field for a few flights before heading home. Everyone had a great time regardless of the weather and said that they will return. Many thanks also go to my club the Cloud Kings for their fantastic support of this VR/CS event and are already looking forward to 2010. I'll sort through the pictures and post some here for your enjoyment real soon so thank you all for coming and I hope to see you at Octoberfest 2010.

Jim Quinn will be at Octoberfest with his electric conversion. I don't recall what he is using but I saw the plane fly in a good breeze. Flew like it was on rails with excellent wind penetration.

For Concours, all you need is a two minute flight. From the flight accounts I'd say that's a long two minutes!

RE: Some info on a yard sale spitfire?
I think one of the Fleecebay plan recopiers is selling a set of the American Modeler plans there. If you get a copy of those plans, you can reduce the weight considerably with proper wood selection. As far as canopies, the Royal Spitfire canopy may work. That can be found at the same place.

Cool. deBolt retracts and gear doors. I wonder why he didn't use bolts instead of bands on the wing. That was an idea just coming into vogue.
