RE: Why do people recommend 87mm dogbones for the Tornado s30??
Where there any little "o" rings in the drive cups?? If so, the longer bones probably wont fit? Anyway, here's the story.. When they first started shipping the S30's they used 84 mm dog bones on the wheels, and they had a tendancy to fall out if the suspension compressed while the wheels were turned.. This was mainly a problem on the fronts.. Anyway, to fix it, they started putting little "o" rings inside the drive cups, (One in the wheel cup and one in the diff cup) so it'd keep the dogbones centered (and not let them fall out) Anyway, the longer dogbones came out in the meantime, but they're really not needed.. Since you have spares, go ahead and use em', but make sure there's no "O" rings in the drive cups.. Also, you can try loosening the ball screws "a little" where the hubs meet the A Arms, to lengthen them and free up your suspension.. Just dont over do it, and make the connections weak.. Once ya use them up, go back to the 84's, and remember to use 1 small "o" ring (or 1mm slice of fuel line) in each drivecup.. If you dont have them already, get the O rings for the shock shafts.. Have at it! ;)

RE: Priming Engine -
Yea, if you have either needle set too lean it can keep it from priming easily.. You can usually tell this by doing the blow method.. If it feels like it's clogged, you've probably got the hs or ls needle a little too lean.. But that said, I'd not start tuning on the needles due to priming alone.. If it runs good, and a temp gun shows it's not too hot, I'd leave it alone and just keep priming it the way you have been.. These things can be huge headaches when there not tuned properly.. And it doesnt take much (sometimes) to throw the tune all out of whack... Good luck! Note: The primer "bulbs" are the best, imo.. ;)

RE: my 1st redcat, good and bad
Pre warm the engine with a hairdryer or heat gun and it'll let it turn over and start easier.. Also, make sure you dont "overprime" the carb, as that can make it harder to turn over as well.. (When priming the motor, just prime until the fuel reaches the carb.. No further!) Good luck with the replacement parts!!

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Check the setscrews in the drive cups. (where the center dog bones connect.) check both drive cups, on each center dog bone.. Note: If your spur was stripped, you'll see that it's missing teeth. Make sure the spur and pinion/clutch gears have all their teeth and also make sure they're still meshed together properly..

RE: Quick question on compatable rims for my Redcat racing tornado BB
The wheels/tires for the Team Associated B44 will fit the Tornado.. (It's their 4wd buggy) The rear wheels/tires for the B4 (2wd) will also fit.. The rears are the same on the B4 and B44.. (Fronts on the 2wd B4 are thinner than the 4wd B44) Check somewhere like Tower Hobby for the B44 stuff.. Search for "B44 wheels or B44 Tires" You should be able to find plenty of options on there.. If ya want to get real Redcat wheels/tire replacements check out URCHobby.com Kurt will take care of ya!

RE: Trouble starting brand new Tornado s30
Yea, the glow ignitors are a pain in the butt. Especially the cheap ones that come in those "all in one" kits.. Id get a spare asap, cause they'll drive you crazy if you dont have one.. ALso, to make the engine start easier, use a heat gun or hair dryer and heat the engine and head up before you try to start it.. Will make it much easier to start, and prolong the internals of the engine as well! ;)

RE: Shock Fluids - help!
If you dont want to buy another shock, you could try some Devcon 2ton epoxy and put the lower cap on permenatly.. Just be careful to keep the expoxy on the treads of the shock and not inside where the piston and seals go.. A new shock/cap is best but it could get ya back up and running in the meantime.. Good luck!

RE: Monsoon XTR shock/accesory options
They say the Kyosho STRR is very similar (if not identical) to the Monsoon XTR, so shocks from one of their kits may bolt right up?? On mine, (Monsoon XTR) it came with a parts bag with a bunch of those white bushings, for the arms. (Same bag that has the shock rideheight spacers in it) I never found out if they were just extras, or if they had differences that made it perform differently? But check that parts bag, you should have a couple extras! Good luck!!

RE: Question about breakin process
You should lower the idle with the "idle" adjustment screw on the carb.. Using the trim is just a quick fix (and usually only used to "increase" the idle to get it to stay running) and should be set back to "neutral" trim as soon as you get the idle corrected with the adjustment screw.. If your seeing alot of raw fuel coming out the exhaust pipe, you have it set plenty rich.. Your not seeing alot of smoke because your not revving the engine up much.. You should really use a temp gun or the "spit" method, to make sure the engine is reaching proper breakin temps.. Running them too rich during breakin is just as bad as running them too lean.. (and some say can actually cause catastrophic failure of the connecting rod, as soon as you start running it hard, if run too cool during breakin.) But just follow the manuals settings for the high and low speed needles, during breakin, and you should be fine.. Hope that helps out your breakin process a little!!

RE: Tornado BBS30 trouble with Dogbones
I dont think you'll be able to find any other manuf's dogbones that fit.. Seems they all make them just a hair different, so they cant be used in other cars.. The ball will be too big, or the pin, or the length, etc.. It's always something that dont fit.. But, I've only broken one on my Tornado S30 (rear-center) but that was after alot of tanks of fuel.. (But it did break where you said, right at the ball) But here's the thing.. On mine, I noticed the drive cup was damaged.. Where the "ears" (pin) on the ball of the dogbone ride in the cup, it makes a little groove on each side.. Which is fairly common and normal, I believe.. But what I noticed on mine was, one side of the cup had a deeper groove than the other, and I think it let the bone twist more, before it grabbed.. Check that on your sons.. It may be why he's breaking them so fast.. If that's not it, like someone else posted, it could be a restriction somewhere, on the end of the chassis that's breaking them.. Maybe a diff is too tight, or bearing is dirty causing resistance? Something must be up though, cause they shouldnt break that often.. Good luck tracking down the culprit!! ;)

RE: redcat option parts
You could try getting some Redcat shock pistons and modding them yourself? Dremel makes a mini drill bit kit with some tiny little bits.. You could add holes if needed or use something like 2part epoxy to fill holes.. (Once the epoxy dries just use some sand paper or razor to remove any access..) Also, I dont know which, but Im sure some other companies shock springs might fit on the Redcat shocks? (or maybe the whole shock from other manuf's could be fitted on your chassis, to fine tune your setup?) Just a couple ideas..

RE: Shock Fluids - help!
Sounds like pretty solid info/procedure there RCC!! [;)] CSW, you can also add spring collars or turn the spring retainer down, (whichever your shocks use) to stiffen the spring rate.. It'll also raise the ride height, but can keep ya from tank slappin on landings, and also keep the rear from bucking (and causeing a nose dive) when taking off from a jump..

RE: need throttle stop screw for team infinity .18 slide carb.
Have you tried contacting Infinity directly? I think Tower Hobby carries some carb parts, but Im not sure about Infinity.. Possibly you could match one up from a differnt brand, but something as precise (and small) as a carb stop screw, your probably not gonna want to mix-match.. I think your best bet may be to try and run down (google search) a phone # for Infinity, and see if you can get them to send you one.. Good luck!!

RE: What are these parts called?
For anyone who reads this, and happens to have the 84mm dogbones, you can get them to stay in by putting a small rubber "o" ring into the drive cup, before installing the dogbone.. (also, a 1-2mm slice of fuel tubing will do the trick as well) Just an FYI for new Tornado owners! ;)

RE: 2.4 ghz or FM, HELP
It's probably a technology thing.. Since 2.4GHz has come so far, they're becoming more and more affordable, while the FM stuff of yester-year is harder to find and possibly more expensive?? (I dont know if that's the reason or not, just speculating) But I've not heard of any scenarios where an FM radio would be preferred over a 2.4 GHz system..

Probably a little late to be of much help here, but if ya use a hair dryer or heat gun, and warm all 4 sides of the engine (and down into the head) for about 20 seconds per side, they'll start much MUCH easier, and not have as much initial wear on the piston/sleeve..

Yes, paint the inside of the shell.. Make sure it's clean by using a mild soap/water solution to remove any grease or release agent.. Also using paint made for lexan will adhere the best..

RE: Shockwave and Tornado
I started with the TornadoS30.. My experience was very good.. Didnt hit any solid objects with it, but it held up fine to cartwheels and jumps gone wrong. lol. Only real mods it needs to start with are (on mine anyway) adding a small "o" ring into the front drive cups, so the dogbones didnt have as much side to side movement. (they can/will fall out if you crash with the wheels turned to full lock) They may have started putting the o rings in at the factory, but check to make sure just in case.. After that, all's good! If it's your first nitro, make sure ya dont run it too lean (hot) as it'll kill the motor in short order if ya do so.. And unfortunately, it'll run really really good when it's leaned out, so ya have to be careful.. A temp gun is a good investment.. Good luck!

RE: SH .18 in Volcano S30
Sure sounds like it's running too lean (hot) Merc? Do ya have a temp gun you can use, to make sure it's not too lean, when ya get it dialed in? There's probably not much you can do for your current engine, but maybe on the next one? I burned one up (my 1st) by running it w/o the filter hooked up, and w/o a temp gauge.. I thought the tune was el'perfecto, but now that I have a temp gun, I know I had it way too lean as well.. They sure run good that way, but dont last very long.. :) Good luck with your next one! (Call Kurt at URCHobby, he'll prolly be able to hook you up with a new SH.18 for a decent price!)

What do you suppose makes the diffs last longer?? In other words, do ya think you could get away with just adding some new grease/fluid into the sealed diff, or do you think it needs the upgrade pinion as well, to make it last longer?? (I've not blown out a diff yet, so Im not sure what part is the weak link) But Im having a heck of a time figuring out what you did to get the new pinion to fit/work? RE: Aftershock 8E tire issues
"Strapping" tape is the best, imo.. You put it on the inside of the tire, in the middle, and it acts similar to the belts of a "belted radial" tire.. Before putting the tape on, use some alcohol on a rag, and wipe the inside of the tire, so it'll be good and clean, and the tape will adhere better.. You can find "strapping" tape at most any hardware type store.. It's very similar to regular packing tape, but it's got filament/fiber lines that run length wise, along the spool of tape.. Good luck!

Does your camera have a "macro" setting? That'll let you take closeup's that are very crisp! Congrats on your new ride! Sounds like you did it the right way!! Reading up on the model, and doing some pre-run maintenance and mods will go a long way in keeping these things running properly and not breaking down so much! I wish more people would take the extra steps to check/set gear mesh, tighten screws, use loctite, etc, etc, before going out bashing.. They say ready to run, but that's really not the case at all..
