ORIGINAL: Jacobs Jasta 7
ORIGINAL: countilaw The best way to get rid of the maiden flight jitters is to learn to fly, and learn to fly correctly. Too many new pilots get planes that are above their ability to fly. I see too many new comers buying mustangs, P-40s, and the like thinking they can fly them. It's best to start with a trainer and getting good with it. Then moving to a more intermediat plane and getting good with it. Once you are good at the controls and you have cofidence in your ability, the jitters go away. You then experience ''excitment''. Frank
I agree to a point Frank, everyones learning curve is different, and it's not up to anyone to say if he or she is ready to handle whatever plane IMO. I've seen newbies on a warbird the second year in, and not crash it. I've been flying about 10 years and I still get the jitters at times. Also I fly scale and some of my planes have taken a year to build. Also every first flight of every Spring my hands start to sweat a little. So to the OP I say you are right where your supposed to be and it is OK. I read somewhere someone older with a heart condition got a heart attack flying his RC airplane for the first time. He started feeling pains in his chest, managed to land the plane safely then dropped dead. It's rare, I wouldn't worry about it. Just focus on your airplane and watch what it does. Practice keeping your wings level and practice keeping your turns smooth. Remember to be nice and easy with your control movements (keep it smooth and gental). If it seems too much, just yell and have someone take over that has more experience. Another thing you can do is teather up with a instructor just in case. Me if I get stage fright at a big event, I just try to picture everyone naked. [:D] Pete
Okay im only 15 but this has me concerned...i can DIE from being too nervous!?!?!?!?!?

scottrc- See, I'm the opposite. I feel the larger planes give me more "tension" where as the smaller ones are just plain old fun and awesomeness to me. :D Livewire- Whoa...now THAT is old!!!

Iflyem35- Ah okay thanks for the clarification. Those are some BIG planes you got there!!!! Holy crap!!! oldbassard- Thanks for the reply! Seems like you've flown a good variety of plane sizes over the years. glowplugboy- Wow that seems like a while back. Was probably really expensive at that time as well. You've been in this hobby a while then im sure.

wesaysoracing- You've got a nice variety there then. drdoom- You must have a pretty good variety of planes then too. :) JohnVH- WOW THATS A BIG PLANE!!! Would hate to crash that....:D Juanjulian- You know, I think I have a nostalgia to small planes as well since i learned on the micros. Kurt2022- You must have some big doorways then...I hit the tail of my Sensei which only has a 58" WS on doors. [X(] Live Wire- whoa...thats a pretty old car you got there. :D jchoresjeff- 50cc...what WS do they typically have? Speedy-Gonzales- Fully agree about the trailer part. dadragon- 76" is considered micro!!! [X(] Oh gosh...my planes are considered microSCOPIC then. :D Tommygun- Ah yeah it must be hard for you to get out and fly then. How big is the area you fly in? I end up having to fly my larger parkzone planes at the club field...

Whoa...5 planes in an Impala...NICE!!! :D Yeah I noticed that with gassers the upfront price is pretty high. Glow is more expensive in the long run im going to guess? I'm an electric only person, and electric isn't too bad...except for the fact that you need more than one battery...thats where it gets expensive.

RE: What size of RC planes do you like?
oneaew- Ah okay i see. I don't have a pick up, but i guess it would be much easier if i did. zx32tt- I've seen some 30% and 40% gassers at the field with smoke systems installed, and man is it awesome!!! raptureboy- I've never tried helis before...are they fun to fly? hsukaria- Yes I don't have any indoor areas either, but I've been able to deal with winds at the most of 5mph with my micros. That gasser must have no problem getting through wind!!!! I agree with you about the amount of planes...although, its very easy to keep all my micros in good shape since its so cheap to replace parts, its no big deal. Thats why i only have two larger planes...it would be kind of expensive for me personally to have more than that.

RE: What size of RC planes do you like?
ORIGINAL: Luchnia Nice hangar. I fly from 40 glow to 50cc gas and out of all of the planes I have my favorite size are the 30cc gassers. They fit the bill perfectly for me. Easy to setup, economical, easy to see, good stability in wind, and not bad for hauling either. I get two of those in my van plus two glows if I want. The larger 50cc planes are a bit more time consuming and really don't offer up all that much additional for me. For something just to grab and fly I think the 40 to 90 size glows are fun as well. For fun fly events I only fly the smaller glow planes as I don't have much investment there.
Thats amazing how you can fit 4 of those big planes (bigger than mine anyway) in there...how do you do that?!?!? Seems many of you on here can fit a good amount of big planes into your vehicle. Heres a picture of my fleet by the way. :) :) :) :) Flyzone Sensei Ember 2 (I need to rebuild that) Micro T-28 (being rebuilt today when the parts come in) Hobbyzone Champ Parkzone P47

RE: What size of RC planes do you like?
ORIGINAL: slee Great topic. I build and fly and prefer larger scale models. I am into WW1 scale building. I have 3 1/3 scale ww1 planes and several 1/4 scale models. But-I also have the e-flight DR1, Spad and a small foam Sopwith Pup. It's nice to have the option of flying both small electrics and large scale. Again, I prefer the larger scale models, but there certainly is a place for the small models as well.
Wow those are some nice looking bipes you got there! Yeah I'm primairly into the micro stuff, but i guess having those two "larger" planes I have is a good thing since when i feel like flying something a little bigger, i can just take one of them out and fly them.

RE: What size of RC planes do you like?
Carellh- Im curious...how do you get these to fit? I can barely fit my sensei, P47, and a couple micros in my car. Yeah I don't mind seeing the bigger stuff fly either, its just i wouldn't want to own one...I don't hate them, they just aren't suited for me. Thrawn150- Yeah I've seen some 40 - 1.50 size electric, and they looked really good. I've got all foamies, so its tough to make them look as good as a balsa model (assuming yours are balsa? I think most larger ones are...), but I don't really mind...I just care if it looks close to scale.

One reason is because they are so small that its easy to store and transport them. They also aren't very costly which is a big concern for me being only 15 years old. When you crash...theres a very low chance that you will break something, and when you do, a little glue and you are back up in the air! Batteries are small and cheap, no need to buy $40 batteries or batteries that look like huge bricks!!! :D There is also no need to join a club. You can fly these almost anywhere...i prefer a school field. So what size or RC planes do you like and why?
