RE: My first speed plane attempt now with video
If we ever figured up how much flight time we got vs build and fix time, it would probably be depressing.

Yep, a 4S would liven it up some. Have you had your hands on the controls while in flight yet?

Depending on how critical it is but without excellent pilot skills the aircraft requires additional cg consideration to minimize error prior to maiden flight. Believe me, even wing loading for this kind of aircraft is not that easy... Actually it’s not that but some part of aerodynamics is not easily accessible without testing even if we have data. In electrical although it's invisible there are basic law that's applicable without predicting just to double check that the aircraft exceeds minimum safety requirements before flying. Elevon - A control surface on an airplane that combines the functions of an elevator and an aileron. Delta wing require elevon mixing so pretty much the same thing.

Hey Chumley, Your not related to that "Chumley" on Pawn Stars on the history channel, are you? ;) I sold Mike D. this business some time back and I hate to see it in this state. He should modify the web site. I wish I had a kit to send you but I do not as it has been some time. I do have two almost new and built air frames I would part with but it would have to be a pick up. What a pain

RE: My first speed plane attempt now with video
I don't think I would run a 5S with a prop using that motor. Video it if you do :) Since we tested similar airframes (yours is probably cleaner) it seems I remember mine running at or just above pitch speed with a 6 x 4 prop hitting 130 mph. RPM verified using the ESC recorder and Doppler for speed. The 4S would put me past 130 but the airframe would not :( Your enhanced structure will hopefully help :)

RE: My first speed plane attempt now with video
Your camera man sure did a nice job on the second flight. That is one cool wing shape and it seems to fly very well also [:D] My thoughts are the 5" prop is not big enough for that air frame. If my Doppler is anywhere in the ball park you have way too much prop slippage. The 5.25 x 6.25 would be interesting but the 6" may be needed. Just my thoughts and I would be happy to Doppler each if you can get a video. There is a flutter point and it might me interesting to find it...maybe [X(]

RE: My first speed plane attempt now with video
Hi Paul, That sure did turn out nice. I did three Doppler checks with two just after the 30 second mark and one just after one minute. I kept coming up with 105 - 115 mph. The lines were not real crisp and may try again later. I have a few untested models ready to fly and need to get busy.

RE: Which is stronger?
ORIGINAL: MJD 75%? Several tests I did in the chem lab about three years showed that thin CA lost in the ballpark of 1.0%. CA homopolymerizes - reacts with itself - when triggered by substrate surface chemistry or outside influence (kickers or whatnot).
The test we did were with medium and thick CA. Forum Moderator da rock had the scales and weighed the glue before and after. My only personal test was a drop of thick CA that reduced in size by over 75% after it cured. My scales work in grams, not grains.

RE: Which is stronger?
I use thick and thin CA almost exclusively to build my planes with great results. I do keep some laminating epoxy around tor fuel proofing, fiber glassing and preparing surfaces for painting but not for joints. Some preliminary test (by da rock in another forum) showed that CA, which is already very light, lost around 75% more weight as it cured. Epoxy loses almost none and not sure about other glues.

9x8, 9x9 or 10x7 works well on that engine. I think a 8" is too small for a 46AX.

The spacer may bring the SS back close to standard tuned muffler specs with a max designed rpm of 18,000 rpm. Maybe a little more pitch would work out.
