RE: Kraft Retracts
Change the connectors to match the radio you are using, just make sure that you get the wires correct.

rrandletn, I believe that what you have is a Scientific Miss America. The polyhedral wing was an option for construction. What happened to the reed radio that was in it? You should be able to get plans from Klarich Kits. http://www.klarichkits.com

RE: Ceconite fabric
I covered an Ugly Stik wing with Ceconite 102 which is 2.6 oz per square yard. I have a nice bag to take the remains home in.[:D] I used Super Seam cement over all the wood areas and attached the fabric with MEK. I set my iron at a temp just taughten the fabric then used nitrate and butyrate dopes up through the butyrate pigmented dope. The finish still looks good after 20 years. Surf the http://www.conaircraft.com/ site for dope and thinner information. There's another way you can finish fabric with polyurethanes. I've also used SIG Coverall and highly recommend it as you can apply just about anything you want on it. Here are some sources for aircraft finishing systems: http://www.superflite.com/Index.asp http://www.polyfiber.com/ http://www.airtechcoatings.com/

You can also try a hot iron and a paper towel. The heat draws the oil out to be absorbed by the towel.

RE: A trip to the hobby shop just isn't what it used to be!
Before John passed away, some smart a$$ed punk broke in to rob it and torched the place. It was a total loss.
ORIGINAL: Lotus72D I recall the neatest "old school" hobby shop I have ever seen was the one in Dallas, Tx owned by former AMA president Johnny Clemons (sp). Just jammed with memorabilia and tons of cool goodies for FF, CL and RC. I was in the Air Force stationed a few hours away in Wichita Falls and would make the trip every few months to stock up, you could spend hours in the place. This was in the early 80's, I know Mr Clemons has passed away many years ago, doubt the place is still open.
If it were not for the 3D ability of both pilot and airplane, it would otherwise be a smoking hole in the ground. That's when pilits refer to someone as being a "good stick".

RE: Performance and Weather
I've seen that with my Ergo 60 Sport. On a hot and humid day, control reactions are definitely slower and sloppier than on a low temp, low humidity day. I might have to tweak the needle or slightly change a setting to compensate. I also do tricks higher up to leave more room for recovery.

RE: Repairing Vacuum Bagged Wings
Thanks Hoofty, The WACO Merlin is no longer available, the owner having sold off all the molds, drawings, etc. some years ago. The wings were painted in the bag but I'm really not too concerned about the final finish. I'd rather learn some repair techniques and mess with the paint later. I figured on applying at least two repair layers, maybe even cutting away the broken stuff and building that back up. The caul plates are a good idea, thanks for the suggestion. I've never ventured into composites fabrication so this will be a learning experience. I think that before I start anything, there are a couple of schools in the area that offer composites courses. I might be able to work the wing repairs into the course as a project.

RE: Repairing Vacuum Bagged Wings
I finally took and captioned some pictures for you guys to look at. The G10 reference I used is found here. http://www.jjorly.com/g10_fr4_sheets_fabricator.htm The fuselage is a kevlar layup, the aft fuselage being fabricated on a conical mandrel. The wings are foam with two 1/2" x 1/8" hardwood spar caps on the upper and lower surface, stopping approximately where the damage is. The wings were bagged then ailerons and flaps cut out. The thought was to take a thin piece of G10 and work it into the wing between the foam and glass then reinforce the exterior. All repairs will be with glass cloth and West System epoxy.

6061-T6 aluminum should do it. If you use 2024, brace it with a wire spreader.

Bax, I have a FP-T7FG/K FM radio that has been flawless since I bought it new in the mid 80's. Since the FP-TF-FM transmitter modules are no longer available, is there a replacement that can be used with this radio? And, will this radio work with a 50mhz module?

RE: Fix for Century Jet Design Flaw
What material is the strut assembly fabricated from? Common sense would use stainless or even 4130 steel to handle such side loads. 2024 aluminum wouldn't cut it, 6061 if the aircraft was super light and 7075 "might" work. Heat treating the parts would also improve the strength. CJM has an attractive line of products but with the reports I've read here on RCU, I'll never send any of my money to them.
