RE: GAS OUTBOARD guys this is our new home
I have a question for you outboard guys. How many degrees do you think the motor is turning or needs to turn to get a good turning radius? I realize that this is subjective to each person and it also will depend on speed but I am just trying to set my boat up and need to know how far the motor needs to turn. Thanks.

RE: Tunnel Hull Build Questions
Michagain Crazy Bob Zippkits now has a tunnel kit. I am almost finished with my build of one. I will be using outboard power on mine. I haven't seen one of their Illusion Tunnels with an inboard but I guess anything is possible. But take a look at their kit. I think it is awesome. Very easy to build and very solid. From the videos I have seen here on RCU and on You Tube, it seen to be very stable and fast. http://www.zippkits.com/

RE: My first build. Need some ideas.
I am interested in your build because I will be doing the same thing with the same engine, but I do have a question in regards to your prop selection. I ordered a 14 - 7 pusher for my boat. I just think the 16 - 10 may be a little large for this motor. I looked at the Zenoah G26 air and it uses a 16 - 8 2 blade. That is why I chose the 14 - 7. Just my 2 cents but let me know how it runs with that prop. I could be wrong.

Cutting blue isulation foam
What are you guys using to cut the blue or pink insulation foam? Can you use a table saw with a very fine tooth blade. Or do I need to use a heated wire in a bow to cut it. I am looking for acurate cuts. (And I don't have the budget for a cnc...LOL) Any help would be appreciated.

RE: **OFFICIAL** Himoto TAIPAN XRS Thread
Hi all. Definately not new to RC or on road nitro but have been into planes and boats for a while and I got behind in the new stuff. Just noticed the Taipan XRS and it looks great. I have done alot of research on the car and have a question. What other engines will fit this car and will anything larger than an .18 fit? Not to offend, I know the engine in it is great but was just wondering. Would like to build one with a .21 that turns about 44k and see how she would run then.

Thanks Mr Cajun. I have looked at your website and I do love your boats. There are just out of my budget right now. But maybe after I build this one and the one for my friend and I learn to drive it. Anyway, thanks for all the good advice.

Airboat design Help
I am designing an airboat for a 31cc Ryobi weedy engine. The rough size is 18" wide by 40" long. This will be a basic everglades type flat bottom boat with 3 strakes. I have purchased a 14 X 7-3 Blade pusher prop for this boat. My questions are about the CG. I have read that a good rule of thumb is 30% of the boat length measured from the transom. That works out to 12 inches and that is where I have the middle of the engine. Is this correct? Also, I plan to use twin air rudders. Is 1/8 aircraft ply thick enough for the rudders or should I use 1/4? The rudders are 15 3/4 high by 5 1/2 wide. This boat will be a combination of blue insulation foam and aircraft ply. I am trying to keep the weight to as low as possible without sacrificing the strength. I will post pictures when I start the build which will be very soon. Thanks for your help!!!

RE: f1 race boat gas
Jay, Great minds must think alike. I also used expandable foam in the sponsons and did some of the same strenthening that you did. The spray foam worked out great. Filled every space without adding weight. And I believe added strength to the hull. I will be posting pictures soon of my lower unit that I designed to get some feedback from all you guys.

Check with Zippkits. They have props already sharpened and balanced. I have one and they did a wonderful job on it.

RE: Big swamp buggy sealing ?
Another great product is ZAP finishing resin. I bought a Zippkits Illusion tunnel and thats what was recommended in the build manual. And I have to say that it has been wonderful. Much easier to sand than epoxy and seals the exterior and interior very well. Do take the advice of the others and use a credit card or similar to spread it. All you need is a very thin layer. Just my 2 cents.

RE: 1/4 scale tunnel hull
Sharpy, It's interesting you should ask about cable or gears. I am building this one as a cable but have looked at gears for a while now. I used to work for a company that went thru several of those die grinders a month. I took apart about 30 of them and kept the gears, bearings and shafts. I am looking at possibly building one similar to yours with gears in the future. I am also toying with the idea of 1 input shaft for twin output shafts. It would have counter rotating props and I think it would be neat.

New Airboat. Need design help
I am helping a friend build an airboat. I have alot of old airplane parts around and thought it would be a neat idea. It will have a .46 nitro engine with a pusher prop. I am guessing it should be 32 inches long and 14 to 16 inches wide. I was wondering what formula to use to put the engine in the right place for proper cg. We will be building this boat with 1/8 inch lite ply with foam in the hull. It will be a typical looking airboat like the one in the movie "The Waterboy". Are we on the right track or should I rethink something? All input appreciated!!!

Zippkits has a very nice tunnel hull. Not sure about the scale but it,s made for this size engine. www.zippkits.com I am building one now. I am also building my own outboard unit just like you. We are not on the same path, because mine is different from yours. But I think we want the same end result. I will be posting pictures soon.

Zenoah G26 Air to marine conversion
Has anyone ever converted a G26 Air to marine use. The reason I ask is because I have a practically brand new G26 that needs a home. I have already turned the fins down on the head. and made a cooling jacket. I know I need to get a pull rope for this to work. Is there anything else I need to do? Is it worth my time? Your thoughts and experience needed!!!

RE: f1 race boat gas
Thanks YPC. I am sure I will be asking alot more questions. I appreciate all the good advice so far. I thought I would place well fitting foam blocks inside the structure of the sponsons so that when I finish the structure, it will be like a solid piece all the way across. Seems like it would make it even stronger too.

I should receive my Spot On 50 tommorow. I already received my new YS FZ63s to power this plane. I hope this will be a potent combination for my first pattern plane. I will post pictures and answer questions to the best of my ability. Any help or suggestions are always welcome. I would like some suggestions on the correct prop for this motor. I plan to use a 3-Blade prop, probably a 13-6 or similar.

YS Engines
Hello Everyone! I have been flying a few years and have never had any experience with these engines. I hear that they are very powerful for their size. I am planning on buying a Pattern plane very soon. I recently had the pleasure of seeing one of these beauties in action. I have read alot of info in this forum and it seems that the YS engines are very popular with pattern planes. I am looking into a 60 size SPOT ON or possibly a LEO 110. Can someone help steer me in the right direction with this. I need to know which plane would be better to start with and which engine would work best. I know the LEO is a little on the heavy size and was wondering in a YS110 would fly it with authority or just barely carry it around the sky? Also would the YS63 do the same for the SPOT ON? I am from the 3D world and I like to have extra power when flying. And from reading the info in here it seems that pattern planes need alot of reserve power as well. I just want the best chance for success on the first try with a new pattern plane. Thanks.
