RE: Tangerine?
ORIGINAL: daven The FAA situation is not a contest board issue, it is an NMPRA / AMA issue. Although the Board are all NMPRA members, they are not all NMPRA officers.
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply this was an issue for the Board to figure out if that's what was gleaned. I don't think the Contest Board / NMPRA or AMA have much say in manner. The current AMA President has already implied that the the current negotiations with the FAA is less than optimistic. That said, the best thing we can do at this point is educate and inform ourselves on what the impact potential could be. The FAA topic is very complicated (at least for me) just trying to unwind and understand what potential impact it could bring to event 424, 426, 428, and 422 is hard to understand at this point. If the 100mph speed limit which was the initial recommendation made to the FAA (which by the way included representation from your AMA) sticks , it would all but kill the event(s). Since the Contest Board is closely tied to these events, perhaps it could stand to reason that a collective voice could be appointed to help monitor these activities going forward? IDK, would that be out of bounds for the board? In the meantime, Dave Mathewson current AMA President, has indicated that the FAA has been invited to the AMA Expo in January, the intent is to hold a round table Q&A session to help clarify a number of issues. I had sent a message to the NMPRA President on this topic, and he informed me that he was also aware of the round table with the FAA in January, and planned to be there. Thanks Scott. Bottom line the message is that anyone and everyone should keep tabs on this.

Jett LS QJ2 and QM40 Conversion Kit
Just a post to let folks know I have a QJ2 Jett LS with a brand new QM40 conversion kit on eBay. As of this writing (7:50am Monday) it is $150.00 with no reserve. http://cgi.ebay.com/Long-Stroke-Jett-Quickee-500-QM-40-No-Reserve-/300477443668?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45f5d9ee54 Mikey D

RE: Jett QM Questions
I'm thinking one or your issues is your selected prop. We run a 7.4 x 7.5 Prop, 7.6 may be just a smidge to heavy? Should peak 24 to 25 but most likely 25+ for a good motor. Launch around 22.5 to 23 with a 7.5 prop. BTW, I am speaking in context of the QM2 Mike D[;)]

RE: Midwest schedule
Matt I heard for a limited time, if you still have your old CAPS motor you can make it like brand new through a kit. I believe you get bearings, piston /liner new head either to fit Nelson style or standard plug, and muffler for 100.00. Not necessary (except muffler), but it' such a good deal, you may want to go ahead and do it. If your interested call Dub Jett to confirm, and than thank him for basically giving the update away at cost. Mike

RE: Lets try to paint a Q40
I have to put a plug in for "Xotic Colours". The company supposedly was founded by some former HOK engineers. What I like about this stuff is that you can buy it in extremely small quantities starting out in 4oz bottles for like $6.90. There are to many colors to pick from. The small quantities make it ideal for our hobby. Their reducers are sold in as little as quart sizes starting at $14.03. and the clear is also sold in as little as quart size $51.00 http://www.xoticcolours.com/products_airbrushpaint.htm Innate paints is also a distributor for Xotic Colours, you can buy from them too. http://www.innate.com/Paint/Xotic/Xotic.htm I have no idea about the CA EPA laws, for mail order though? RE: Midwest schedule
That CAPS motor will be just fine, you will need a new muffler. You can 1) Give Dub a call http://www.jettengineering.com/ 2) I will be at a race in South Florida in April. I can get with Dennis O'brien, and bring one back with me. FYI....I have to buy a new motor myself, I was planning on option 2 myself. Mikey D

RE: Midwest schedule
Matt Come out and race with us, bring your foamies and Heli's thumbs too. For the Muncie races and the Cincy race a lot of folks camp out right on site. With the way DST is in Indiana, it doesn't get dark until 10p. After the racing is done, we BBQ, fly other stuff, tell lies, and drink beverages with stuff in it. Mike D Who also lives in Indy!

RE: Dawg Gone it ???
I had one, it flew straight, very little trim needed. I think I had one of the earlier ones though, the fuse was a tad on the heavy side, but he probably has that worked out now. The wing was all composite, and was well constructed and light. Has a coke bottle fuse, not my favorite, but others don't seem to mind. Unfortunately, I never got to fly it in competition. Mike D

CAPS Indy Shootout 9/28-9/30 Muncie In.
The next CAPS race and final of the season will be 9/28-9/30 in Muncie. Registration is open at www.capsracing.com As a reminder, unlike using a group of volunteers from a local R/C Club, CAPS partners with special interest groups, like the Muncie area High School Booster Clubs. In exchange for workers, we make a donation to the community and the special interest group. (Good PR!) The last two years has been to the Football team, this year it looks like maybe the local HS Band. It works only if we have accurate commitments through online registration. Your entry fees go direct to the donation. BTW, anyone can adopt this method, it's some what of a myth these days to not have a race because of workers. Yes, facilities play a part, in our case it's Muncie so it's a non-issue. In fact I'm surprised more people do not reserve the site, it's part of our membership, FREE, and they set everything up (We have used the CAPS lighting system in the past. CAPS is rebuilding on the equipment, but we still have a basic system), we just need to provide workers. BTW, it's the complete NAT's configuration. You just need to do it a year ahead of time. Mike

RE: Safety Gear
I do not post that often, I've attempted to paste Section 4.2.1 of the Rule Book. In case it doesn't make it. You now have a reference to the types of helmets supported. In short OSHA DOT ANSI SNELL NOCSAE Or the catch all quote "Other recognized organization that certifies safety equipment." Mike D.

CAPS Indy Shootout Muncie
Fellow Racers Last year three of us myself, Ed Smith, and Ray Hendriksma agreed to hold a race, and use the registration fees to make an area donation to the a local high school booster club in exchange for workers. It was a good formula, we race, have fun, and make a donation at the end of the weekend to a local high school football program. In this case the $$ were used to help buy new equipment. This year we are trying to do the same. We are not a club, just three guys who reserved the AMA site. We depend on entry fees to facilitate workers. To date we are not quite half way there. The agreement to the CAPS memebership was to inform the memebership two weeks before the contest if we had enough entries. To date we are not quite half way there. This Friday is the cutoff for a go/no-go decision. If you have not registered please logon today at www.capsracing.com and register today. The race is 9/8- 9/10 Mike

RE: We want to start racing at our club, how?
Hi I live in Indianapolis, have been racing for a long time. I like the fact there are others in the area willing to give pylon a try. It might seem to make sense to try and come up with a local agenda for your club, many have, and many do. Most that I know of have not been able to sustain the momentum for various reasons. I would submit that the rules or lack of rules only pertained to the local club. Very hard to keep the blood and new blood flowing for a long period of time with a niche set of rules and planes. I would reconsider the AMA 424 rulebook event. The advantage here is that you can get a Quickee at your LHS, pretty cheap. You might be surprised at all the people in the area who already have a Quickee 424 planes built that would be willing to come to a local race me included. Last year we hosted a race in Muncie and had a nice turnout of 424 flyers. I think they had a better time racing than the expert and qtrmidget pilots. Perhaps some of them can chime in for thier testomonial. We are again having a race in Muncie 9/9 - 9/10. I invite you and your buddies to come on out and fly. All you need is a Quickee (Predator, Viper easily available) and a TT.40 I promise you if you take us up on the offer you will have the time of your life. www.capsracing.com for details. In the meantime, anyone else in the Indiana surrounding counties interested in learning about Pylon racing, we have an active schedule at our website. I am here in Carmel not to far from Muncie, if anyone desires to practice (depending on AMA schedule) or at your site as well. Bottom line CAPS and NMPRA are chartered to help those who are interersted in Pylon Racing. Mike DeNeve, Indianapolis

RE: Pylon Simulator
Don Stegall made a nice course that can be used with the G2 , but not with G3. The planes in G2 in my opinion are more realistic for setting up for pylon racing too. Mike DeNeve
